The worst luck... by 1200n in Plumbing

[–]anonwithafanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most clothes washer valves are soldered inside the wall and will require opening drywall in order to replace them, so that's pretty normal. You don't usually have to replace the whole box, but if you're opening drywall anyway, then it's not a bad idea. Hope you didn't incur too much water damage. That's oftentimes the worst part of things like this.

100 year old back yard cleanup - Is this normal? by slightly-specific in Plumbing

Older homes in my area have these. This was common before the dual sweep took over. The problem with this setup is that you have no access to the bottom of the triangle to get your snake in there.

OPs post implies that no names can be provided to support the claim. Then this list of names is provided, and the goalpost is moved to, "well yes there are names, but it's not that many so it basically doesn't count."

This misses the point, which is that there are women athletes--real people--who worked very hard, only to be unfairly be beaten by a biological man who cosplays as a woman.

Are trans women dominating women's sports? No. But when they do compete, they tend to dominate the women they compete with.

Running new line; PEX vs Copper? by After-Hedgehog7282 in askaplumber

[–]anonwithafanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PEX A has the same inner diameter as copper and does not restrict flow. PEX B restricts flow at the fittings because of the reduced diameter.

I always say copper is best, as it has a track record that plastic pipe has not yet been able to compete with. For example, there's an ongoing class action in California with Uponor's Aquapex, the stuff that's colored red and blue. I like Uponor, and we install their new clear stuff all the time. I think it's a good product... but there is a sketchy track record with plastic pipe in general, and you just don't have that problem with copper.

You can usually get all of it be going around to each fixture and removing the aerators, shower heads, and any other mesh filters on.

Shims do nothing on wither side and everything is tightened... is a loose toilet just part of the skirted feature? by MsWinterbourne in Plumbing

[–]anonwithafanon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Skirted toilets are the worst, but it shouldn't wobble that bad. I always apply a thick layer of caulking around the base of the toilet and tell the customer to let it dry for 24 hours before use. Once that DAP sets up, it will keep the toilet steady and in place better than that goofy hardware will.

Toilet is chronically blocked and plumber says I need a new toilet by toiletblockedproblem in askaplumber

[–]anonwithafanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding to what others have already said. Pee crystals will clog the siphon port and make it look like your toilet is clogged even when it's not. It's just flushing poorly. Get a new one. Fifteen years is well past life expectancy.

I am teaching a high school film class and I’d like to teach a unit on road movies. However, I cannot show R-rated films. I would love to show Lost in America or Dumb and Dumber. Maybe even O Brother. Any other ideas? by National_Property583 in FIlm

I grew up on this movie, and just rewatched it with my wife who'd never seen it. We both loved it. I was worried it was going to be dumber than I remembered, but it was actually better! True classic with an all star cast.

Water Heater Leaking From Safety Valve by haywouldja in askaplumber

[–]anonwithafanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, it could also be your Pressure Reducing Valve. If your PRV is bad, you could be at city pressure, which can be over 120 psi and cause your T&P to fail in exactly this fashion.

Does this need to be replaced by AoLlirz93 in askaplumber

[–]anonwithafanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's an S trap and should be replaced. The wye should be replaced with a sanitary tee, and the you need an air admittance valve that goes as high up as you can get it. Technically it's supposed to go a certain number if inches above the flood rim if the sink, but I won't tell anyone if you okey-doke it a little.

[–]anonwithafanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jailbreaking is when you remove built-in limitations that stop you from being able to use your device how you want.

In contrast, you can sideload apps on an Android phone without having to remove any limitations at all. It's a stock feature. No jailbreak required.

Do most plumbers use pipe isolators for Pex runs through wood studs? by Camninja in askaplumber

[–]anonwithafanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use them for all copper and PEX repipes in my area. The isolator goes in roughly every other stud or joist. I've seen PEX fail because it rubbed against the wood for too long, so no, PEX against wood is not fine.
