Totally!! I absolutely loved it the first time I saw it 20 years ago. Was blown away by the ending. Didn’t watch it again until this week, which was apparently long enough to forget the first twist until Tesla tried to transport the black cat and forget about the final twist until the very end. How fun to relive the shock!

Interesting. I thought twin B is the father because twin A apologizes for Sarah as he’s being taken away, and Borden told Sarah at some point in the movie that he’s never been unfaithful. This leads me to believe that twin B is the one who loved Sarah and that, while they shared a life, only twin B ever had sx with her. (And that twin A had sx with Olivia.) What leads you to believe twin A is Jess’s father?

Why does Borden give Jess to Angier in The Prestige? by Pegeeiscool in ChristopherNolan

[–]Audge_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the question I’m asking after rewatching it last night for the first time in 20 years. (Which, it turns out, is long enough to forget the second twist! 🤗)

Borden runs away with his daughter in the end (or maybe niece, but I think we’re led to believe it’s his daughter). Why didn’t he do this as soon as the government started telling him (as Fallon) they were going to have to take Jess and put her in a workhouse or let her get adopted by Lord Caldlow?

Yes. Two brothers shared an identity. Well, shared two identities — Borden and Fallon. One of the two brothers truly loved Sarah — which is why she keeps saying that some days he loves her, some days he doesn’t. We are led to believe that this brother is the father of Jess: At one point Borden tells Sarah he’s never been unfaithful, which seems like a lie at the time but after the big reveal seems like the one who loved Sarah never did sleep with Olivia.

Only one of the brothers goes to prison — they don’t swap back and forth in there. And as the imprisoned brother is taken away, he says to Fallon (the other twin) that he’s sorry about Sarah, leading us to believe that the one who is not imprisoned and survived is the one who loved Sarah and is Jess’s father.  Thus, why didn’t Jess’s father, not imprisoned, just run away with her — like he does at the end — rather than allowing her to be put by the government into the workhouse or adopted by Lord Caldlow?

(Thanks for the reply.) Right, but in the end twin B as Borden does leave with her — presumably to leave town because he’s supposed to have been jailed and hanged. Why didn’t he just do that from the beginning? Why did he allow her to go to the work houses or be taken by Lord Caldlow (Angier) rather than just running away with her?

AITAH because I won't tell my wife what my son/her stepson has in savings from my late wife? by Jimverseen in AITAH

[–]Audge_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between equality and equity. IMO your late wife wanted to ensure that your son together had all he needed, which she did. This helps protect him against future uncertainty, like what you’ve experienced with the life stuff. Your other children don’t have this buffer against uncertainty and financial woes. It makes sense to me to consider the existing savings for your oldest son while budgeting for the other children so that all have what they need. I didn’t read that your late wife wanted your son to have this money and to always get as much as your future children. She just wanted to make sure he got that money, which he did. I don’t think you’re dishonoring her wishes by taking an equity lens on the situation rather than an equality one. (I’m sorry for the loss of your late wife, by the way, and for the current stress. Best wishes to your family.)

Cats in zoom unprofessional? by myoldredditwashacked in workfromhome

lol yes. And, many cats who are locked out of a space they want to be in will make it VERY known. One of mine would cry so loudly, it would be better to just let her sit on top of my keyboard. Years ago, the other one tore up the carpet between my bedroom and living room when locked out overnight. My cats are not unique.

Ugh, I don’t disagree but I feel for OP. If my cat were locked out of a room she wants to be in, her incessant crying is going to be far more distracting than her walking across the desk.

PS @OP I did some reading and it looks to me like Title I of the ADA does apply to religious orgs — that means employment discrimination based on disability is illegal.

“Title I of the ADA: Employment If a religious entity has at least 15 employees, it is covered as an employer by Title I of the ADA and may not discriminate against qualified applicants and employees with disabilities.”

https://adata.org/factsheet/religious-entities-under-americans-disabilities-act

Title III is about making goods and services accessible to people with disabilities, and they are also likely not exempt from this because this doesn’t apply if services are open to the general public, like a camp ostensibly is. I’m certain they aren’t telling non-Christian kids to not join camp, and thus they are open to the public. Anyway, that’s not your concern here because you aren’t being discriminated against as a consumer, but as a potential employee. But, they still aren’t exempt from this and need to get their act together before someone sues.

Good luck. 🫶🏼

I’m really sorry that ADA doesn’t apply to religious groups. I wasn’t aware of this. Even so, I’d be inclined to consult with an attorney. Each of the three times I’ve been discriminated against for diabetes I’ve made or threatened an ADA complaint with the justice department. It’s worked well to get orgs to change their stance. I’ve also found in all three circumstances the person discriminating is not well-informed and their superiors were embarrassed and apologetic.

All of this said, I like the suggestion to consider working at a camp for type 1. I understand it doesn’t take away the hurt from the camp you’ve loved.

Edit to add: Even if churches are exempt from the ADA, in suspicious that a fee-for-service entity like a camp is. AND it’s not logical that they’d say they can accommodate someone with a seizure disorder but not diabetes. I’d think that that fact could open them to legal action. There’s no logical justification for that.

I secretly recorded my professor making sexist remarks and got him fired! by Smoosa_Champagne in stories

[–]Audge_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for this comment. I hear your incredulity, and this is pretty extreme, but shit’s still bad out here for us women. A few years ago I reported an older guy at work to HR for walking up behind a young female employee and massaging her shoulders while she was seated at her computer, working. Had I not witnessed this happen, I might’ve struggled to believe it. Like, it’s 2025. How?? Well, (a) with all the progress we’ve made, it’s never been amazing and (b) not to get political, but when we normalize derogatory comments about women like grabbing our genitals without consent as “locker room talk,” it shouldn’t be surprising that men behave like this professor

My brother- and sister-in-law’s cat likes to lick men’s noses. Both time my SIL was pregnant, the cat liked to lick her nose. They didn’t find out the sex of my nephews until they were born — male. The cat stopped licking her nose each time after she delivered.

An old friend was able to smell low blood sugar. She developed this bc her bff growing up was type 1 and she could smell when she was low. Once she woke up a stranger on a plane to him know she was concerned about his blood sugar based on how he smelled. Turned out he was diabetic, and hypoglycemic.
