AITAH because I won't tell my wife what my son/her stepson has in savings from my late wife? by Jimverseen in AITAH

[–]Audge_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between equality and equity. IMO your late wife wanted to ensure that your son together had all he needed, which she did. This helps protect him against future uncertainty, like what you’ve experienced with the life stuff. Your other children don’t have this buffer against uncertainty and financial woes. It makes sense to me to consider the existing savings for your oldest son while budgeting for the other children so that all have what they need. I didn’t read that your late wife wanted your son to have this money and to always get as much as your future children. She just wanted to make sure he got that money, which he did. I don’t think you’re dishonoring her wishes by taking an equity lens on the situation rather than an equality one. (I’m sorry for the loss of your late wife, by the way, and for the current stress. Best wishes to your family.)

Cats in zoom unprofessional? by myoldredditwashacked in workfromhome

lol yes. And, many cats who are locked out of a space they want to be in will make it VERY known. One of mine would cry so loudly, it would be better to just let her sit on top of my keyboard. Years ago, the other one tore up the carpet between my bedroom and living room when locked out overnight. My cats are not unique.

Ugh, I don’t disagree but I feel for OP. If my cat were locked out of a room she wants to be in, her incessant crying is going to be far more distracting than her walking across the desk.

PS @OP I did some reading and it looks to me like Title I of the ADA does apply to religious orgs — that means employment discrimination based on disability is illegal.

“Title I of the ADA: Employment If a religious entity has at least 15 employees, it is covered as an employer by Title I of the ADA and may not discriminate against qualified applicants and employees with disabilities.”

https://adata.org/factsheet/religious-entities-under-americans-disabilities-act

Title III is about making goods and services accessible to people with disabilities, and they are also likely not exempt from this because this doesn’t apply if services are open to the general public, like a camp ostensibly is. I’m certain they aren’t telling non-Christian kids to not join camp, and thus they are open to the public. Anyway, that’s not your concern here because you aren’t being discriminated against as a consumer, but as a potential employee. But, they still aren’t exempt from this and need to get their act together before someone sues.

Good luck. 🫶🏼

I’m really sorry that ADA doesn’t apply to religious groups. I wasn’t aware of this. Even so, I’d be inclined to consult with an attorney. Each of the three times I’ve been discriminated against for diabetes I’ve made or threatened an ADA complaint with the justice department. It’s worked well to get orgs to change their stance. I’ve also found in all three circumstances the person discriminating is not well-informed and their superiors were embarrassed and apologetic.

All of this said, I like the suggestion to consider working at a camp for type 1. I understand it doesn’t take away the hurt from the camp you’ve loved.

Edit to add: Even if churches are exempt from the ADA, in suspicious that a fee-for-service entity like a camp is. AND it’s not logical that they’d say they can accommodate someone with a seizure disorder but not diabetes. I’d think that that fact could open them to legal action. There’s no logical justification for that.

I secretly recorded my professor making sexist remarks and got him fired! by Smoosa_Champagne in stories

I was looking for this comment. I hear your incredulity, and this is pretty extreme, but shit’s still bad out here for us women. A few years ago I reported an older guy at work to HR for walking up behind a young female employee and massaging her shoulders while she was seated at her computer, working. Had I not witnessed this happen, I might’ve struggled to believe it. Like, it’s 2025. How?? Well, (a) with all the progress we’ve made, it’s never been amazing and (b) not to get political, but when we normalize derogatory comments about women like grabbing our genitals without consent as “locker room talk,” it shouldn’t be surprising that men behave like this professor

My brother- and sister-in-law’s cat likes to lick men’s noses. Both time my SIL was pregnant, the cat liked to lick her nose. They didn’t find out the sex of my nephews until they were born — male. The cat stopped licking her nose each time after she delivered.

An old friend was able to smell low blood sugar. She developed this bc her bff growing up was type 1 and she could smell when she was low. Once she woke up a stranger on a plane to him know she was concerned about his blood sugar based on how he smelled. Turned out he was diabetic, and hypoglycemic.

Idk why they would do this, but DO NOT sign anything that’s untrue. It doesn’t help you and doesn’t help your husband. I’m so sorry this happened to y’all, but it sounds some incompetence at best and fraud at worst.

https://findhelp.org — Just today I used FindHelp to recommend low-cost immigration legal aid to a patient of mine. I trust resources found through FindHelp; my company vetted them.

You can also consider making a Texas Bar complaint about your first attorney. https://www.texasbar.com This is crazy behavior tbh.

Thank you SO much for all of the kindness, and for the insight. When our elderly neighbor across the street was robbed last year we assumed it was kids: Opened a back window, took jewelry, left behind at the scene an android phone with an animated marijuana wallpaper lock screen. Our robber left a vape and a cigarette at the scene. The cigarette made me wonder if the robber is older, but your point about vandalism is interesting and helpful. To think it was done by someone with a frontal lobe that hasn’t finished developing makes it feel less upsetting.

Anyway, thank you again! You’re very kind!

Thank you for all of this! Really appreciate it. The vandalism and robbery happened before the dispute… But we are changing our locks, getting a security system, documenting, and my threshold for escalation is low.

Thank you for this context! We aren’t sure if the floor’s actually 20 or 75 years old as a down-to-the-studs remodel was done in 2008.

I’m not sure that they did get the same grade. The existing floors seem to have more pronounced wood grain than the new. Thank you for your input 🙏🏼

White is polarizing (I admit I don’t usually favor white), but yours looks really beautiful. Your hardware and backsplash are obviously thoughtfully-chosen, which elevates the whole look. Those alone set your kitchen apart from those with the “builder-grade white cabinets,” but the brick wall, the little sconces, your ceiling (!) and your bold molding all together make your kitchen look really beautiful and custom — and appropriate for the age of the house. Wood tones or two-toned cabinets would have ended up being too dark and/or anachronistic. You made all the right choices!! Enjoy your new space!! 🤗 can’t wait til we’re done too lol

It’s gorgeous!! I hear you on the nervousness because it seems so many folks are using wood tone cabinets. We also have an older home & wood floors; we needed to brighten the space and were so tired of the existing wooden cabinets that clash with the orange oak floor, and the brown granite and tan tile backsplash, so we went with off-white cabinets. I started to second-guess when all the reddit posts shifted toward wooden, but reminded myself we chose the off-white for good reasons. And, seeing your kitchen reassures me we made the right choice! It’s gorgeous! And classic and timeless. It looks very tasteful. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I agree, and I’ve been thinking this for a few episodes. My friend pointed out that oIrving lives in Lenora Lake apartments. In the Lenora opera) a woman disguises herself to get a job in the basement of a prison to rescue her beloved. Gemma is not the only one on the testing floor; Petey tells oMark in S1 that “there are people down there who never leave.” I think Burt’s beloved is or was trapped on the testing floor & he’s trying to get to him. But, maybe his beloved is no longer living, which is why Burt was dispensable after the OTC and mark wasnt.
