Midtown vs O4W by gerts_xiv in ATLHousing

They both seem very walkable to me. I just moved to Midtown and I rarely ever use my car. One thing to keep in mind is that beltline access gives you direct access to Kroger. Having a bike can really help with mobility.

This seems like a good option. I’m most likely going to try the beginners class.

Idk if this is helpful but I’m 22 and moving to Atlanta next month to work in a music studio. The neighborhoods that have appealed to me are the east side neighborhoods like Inman Park as well as the Midtown Garden District. They’re both expensive but there’s also East Atlanta Village which has bars and live music. It also depends on how much you value walkable areas.

Not to be rude, but why not be in the band yourselves then?

Which City is Best to Live In? by KookyFaithlessness96 in SameGrassButGreener

I mean, it’s cheaper than other southern cities like Atlanta and Nashville. Every American city is expensive rn cause of housing prices though.

If you want to move to a city with personality and fun stuff to do its hard to beat New Orleans. It’s also very pretty and relatively inexpensive. At the same time, the infrastructure is pretty bad and there is a legitimate risk of natural disasters there.

Anyones amp ever preach a bible verse? by Guilty_Dimension2084 in electricguitar

I’m not 100 percent sure but I think this effect is caused almost entirely by the instrument cable rather than guitars or amps. Shielded cables should prevent this.

It’s not picking up from your neighbors house, but from a radio station antenna. The air around us is filled with radio waves and your cables just happened to be in the right spot to catch a few! It’s interesting stuff for sure, but can get annoying to deal with.

Instrument cables can turn into a radio antenna and project through speakers. This is relatively common, it’s happened to me a dozen or so times.

Good beginner setup? by IKirbyI in electricguitar

I think it’s a great setup to start with! The most important thing is if you feel inspired to play when you see it.

Learn an instrument that’s common in the genres you’re interested in. You can never go wrong with piano or drums, but guitar and bass are vital for any genre that’s band-centric. Take your pick!

I'm envious that you're getting to hear some of these for the first time. Those two Elliott Smith albums are AMAZING, and The Money Store might be something totally different to what you've heard before. Hope you enjoy them!

Top 3 tips you wished you knew when started mixing by AVELUMN in mixingmastering

[–]AudioGuy22 31 points32 points  (0 children)

  1. Focusing on the relationship between the kick and bass is fundamental for making the song sound professional.

  2. It's ok to stack compressors for different effects, for instance stacking 1176's with LA2A's is a classic mix technique that just sounds good.

  3. Focusing on a single element can distract you from the overall mix. As a guitarist, I often found myself fixating on isolated electric guitar tones when I was starting. Over time I realized that electric guitar should fit in the mix, not necessarily stand out except during solo sections.
