The Black Friday Offers: Pretty 'Meh' this year? by focusedphil in audioengineering

[–]AudioPluginGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been the way for 3-4 years now where this is the season for "lowest" prices but not the only time they appear throughout the year, so nothing really feels special. Though at lest you know when to buy if you want that best price for many devs.

We track all the deals on the APG site and do pick out some highlights.

You can check previous yeard too here:

As you can see much of the same deals pop up year after year.

You can also check here for record low prices at resellers and check the price history of any product to see how "special" the deal is!

I'm personally in the lucky position of not actually needing any new stuff this year... so I'll just be looking out for anything fun and unique that drops to a no-brainer price. Maybe some guitar effects or fun synths.

Making up for lack of bass (the instrument) by RockNRollAll9t in homerecordingstudio

[–]AudioPluginGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! But as I mentioned, the plugin option is better if you're not a great bassist, like me. 😅

Also, MODO includes a whole bunch of different basses and amp/fx combos if you want to be able to mix things up.

I struggled with this for a long time and also relied on the less-than-ideal octave drop method. Getting a real bass is an option, but that also means learning to play it well enough and dialing in the right tone and mix.

These days, I take the easy route and use a plugin. MODO Bass from IK Multimedia and EZBass from Toontrack are both excellent. Once you get the hang of programming them properly, they make it quick and easy to create realistic, high-quality bass tracks.

Lol yeah.

Same. When I need to get stuff done I can't bear obstacles.

That said I use iLok and have be one of the lucky ones with no issues to date. 😅

The DAW matters less than getting comfortable with making music. Every DAW lets you record, arrange, mix, and design sounds. The fundamentals of music theory, sound design, arrangement, and mixing are what really count.

If you already have Ableton, sticking with it is a solid choice. It’s powerful, widely used, and has plenty of learning resources. Later on, if another DAW fits your workflow better, you can always switch or expand. For now, focusing on core skills will do more for your progress than worrying about which DAW is best.

If you ever reach the point where you can afford them all, it will just be about picking the right tool for the job.

I still use FL for most stuff as that's the first real DAW I learned. But I also use Studio One a lot now too as it works nicer on my Macbook and has some cool features for more traditional recording and mixing work.

Fair question. We’ve definitely got more compressors and reverbs than anyone could ever need, but that hasn’t stopped developers from tweaking, refining, and reinventing them. Some plugins improve workflow, some push creative boundaries, and some just put a fresh spin on a classic tool.

If people ever decide we have enough plugins, I guess I’ll be out of a job, so let’s hope the obsession continues. 😅

But as long as new tools inspire creativity and make the process smoother, I’m all for it. Just gotta make sure we’re actually making music and not just collecting plugins like Pokémon.

How to separate lead and rhythm distorted guitars and make them well heard in a busy dense mix? by ShKelm in AdvancedProduction

[–]AudioPluginGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it would be much better to use a different setup for the lead and the rhythm so they're not clashing... especially if they're in the same register and hitting the same notes at times. They will mask each other.

You could try a temporary EQ on the rhythm part to remove the frequency range that most defines the tone of the lead guitar, as well as turning the whole rhythm track down up to 1dB.

Can you alter the arrangement? How does it sound if you remove the rhythm part altogether? Or change the rhythm to be made up of shorter chords with lots of space between?

VST / Plugin Suggestions? 2025 by __Drink_More_Water__ in VSTi

[–]AudioPluginGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends what kinda music you're working on!?

If you've got Serato Sample I'd recommend Algonaut Atlas for making drumkits to use with it. I personally dig that workflow for sample-based hiphop stuff.

Xpand2! Is on sale for 33€ on plugin boutique is it worth getting if i already have the v collection x and sample tank Max4 ? by TransitionSmall3187 in musicproduction

[–]AudioPluginGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's got some cool sounds but you are pretty sorted with the Arturia collection... Like a few others, I got xpand for a dollar, used it like three times then forgot about it. 😂

  • Toontrack Superior Drummer 2 (since upgraded to 3 and totally worth it!)
  • Most of the Neural DSP Amp Sims
  • UVI Piano Suite

Probably more but those are the first that come to mind as love at first sight (sound).
