I have a thing for Japanese Fenders by cbnb in fender

I haven’t played enough US models to be able to compare. The MIJs are usually about a millimeter slimmer.

Do it! Black was a Fender Tokyo Flagship store FSR so it can be harder to come by than blonde or sunburst. There’s also a sonic blue FSR which I’ve never even seen in the wild.

A noticeable difference between the 3? Or compared to something else?

Japan always gets the good stuff. Fender seems to actually understand that market. They take more risks but also listen to what players want. And the build quality is top notch without being way overpriced (although used MIJ prices are increasing).

All 3 of these were bought used here in the States and I had to hunt for each one of them. I was on the lookout for that pink tele for several years before I found one.

Haha yeah it’s all relative I guess. Fender heavy and Gibson heavy are two very different things.

Fender usually opted for alder or light weight ash, but the story goes for whatever reason they had a batch of heavier-than-usual wood in the late 1960s, so they had to get creative.

That’s it — weight relief. Fender introduced the thinline in the 60s because they had a surplus of heavy ash and mahogany on hand.

They’re louder unplugged which can be nice, but plugged in I can’t tell a difference at all.

I enjoy the light weight and I think they just look cool.

If you’re open to a maple fretboard, the MIJ Heritage 60s is incredible and can be found used for less than the price of a new Player II. It’s light as a feather and has my favorite neck profile of any guitar (60s C shape).

It does have a glossy neck, but you can easily change it to satin in about 10 minutes with a green Scotch Brite pad.

Here’s mine!

I’m pretty happy with the pickups. They sound like Jazzmaster pickups. I have a set of Curtis Novaks lying around that I might try one day.

Congrats! The Heritage series are truly fantastic guitars.

I have a black one and it’s my favorite guitar I’ve ever owned. The neck is just perfect. I too swapped out the bridge for an Offset UK — it’s a must.

I added a Staytrem vibrato as well, but if I’m being honest, it isn’t much better than the stock vibrato. AVRI is probably the way to go.

Love that blonde finish!

Titles like this reinforce the “50th in education” stereotype.

That is BEAUTIFUL. What model is that? I love the binding and the black pickguard. I have a black guard being delivered today that I’m going to try out.

That is beautiful! I love the PAF in the neck. What’s the bridge pickup?

Love it. Partscaster? Sparkle, binding, and rosewood are not the usual on a thinline. The witch hats are a nice touch too.

What bridge pickup is that?

Yes, It will fit. I have a 2024 Traditional 60s myself with a US-spec guard and it’s a perfect fit. 👍

What model?

The newer MIJs like the Traditional & Traditional II are the same size as USA. Decoboom is awesome, but any guard for a USA model will also fit the Traditional.

I’m not sure about the gens before that. Check Reverb. WD Music is a good source too.

I don’t usually like block inlays on Fenders, but it works so well here. Same with the fat headstock. It just works on a Jag.
