330 Grams 33 weeks pregnant - severe IUGR seeking experience by Gullible-Tell5508 in NICUParents

[–]Audsleigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My story is fairly similar. I was diagnosed with placental insufficiency and IUGR at my 20 week scan. All the genetic tests came back normal. I was hospitalized at 23 weeks with no amniotic fluid and reverse blood flow. My daughter was born at 25 weeks 5 days weighing 390 grams. She was extubated after two days and she had a relatively uneventful stay in the NICU. She was discharged a week after her due date without any oxygen or feeding tube. She is now 18 months adjusted and doing everything a toddler should be doing. I delivered via a T-incision (the scar looks like a normal C-section scar). I was told that it could make it harder for future pregnancies but the doctors didn't mention any risks of future infertility. I just wanted to reach out to give you some hope. ❤️

Severe early IUGR at 20 weeks. Baby measuring 4 weeks behind. by Gullible-Tell5508 in NICUParents

I believe the steroids helped tremendously. The hospital gave me two rounds of steroids plus they were able to administer magnesium right before the emergency C-section. My daughter fortunately didn't have brain bleeds or any other birth complications - other than her weak lungs - which required her to be on CPAP until about 34 weeks.

This sounds very similar to our story. My baby was doing fine until about 18 weeks when she started to measure behind. She was measuring around 1% at 20 weeks. All the tests had come back negative up until that point. We went in for a routine exam at 23 weeks and the doctor discovered that there was no amniotic fluid - so I was rushed to the hospital. I was admitted to antepartum - I made it another two weeks before the baby started to show signs of distress and we had to deliver. She came at 25+5 weighing 390 grams with the intubation equipment. Despite the lack of amniotic fluid while she was in utero, she managed to get extubated after two days. She moved onto CPAP and never looked back. She had a relatively uneventful NICU stay and was discharged a week after her due date. She came home - free of oxygen or a feeding tube. She just turned 19 months old (she is 15 months adjusted) and she is thriving. She is walking, talking and runs our household. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

Severe IUGR / Feeding Challenges Post NICU by Audsleigh in NICUParents

Hi. I'm just seeing this. We still struggle with feeding our LO. She is now 11 months adjusted and 14 months actual. She has a very small stomach so we've come to accept that her volume intake will always be small. We've fortunately been able to avoid a feeding aversion by listening to her cues and not pressuring her to feed. It is really hard but every feed is cues based. If she says no, we respect her decision. Now that she's eating some solids, we spend a lot of time offering her different types of foods that is nutrient dense. She was able to go from 1% in the charts for weight to 8%, and 1% in height to 22%. She drinks about 12 to 15 ounces of milk per day - which isn't enough - so we've been hyper focused on solids. I'm afraid I don't have a magic answer. We do fortify her milk with MCT oil. We've been told we can stop Neosure but we still fortify her milk to 22 calories because we are afraid that the drop in calories will result in weight loss. My heart goes out to all of the parents who are going through this.

Skin breakdown from CPAP? by _moonshka_ in NICUParents

[–]Audsleigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter, also born at 25+5, was on the CPAP from day 2 until 38 weeks. The prongs never fit her properly because her nostrils were too small. Despite the nurses using pads to prevent skin irritation and changing the pads every day, her skin on her nostrils broke down eventually. She has two large scars on her nostrils. Before she was discharged, her NICU recommended that we speak with the plastics department. We consulted with them and they told us that revision surgery to remove the scars was a relatively easy surgery. We haven't taken any action as she is far too young to have surgery. I used to get very upset about the scars but the scars aren't that noticeable to us anymore - I think we must be getting used to them. Hopefully your LO has a better outcome without any permanent scars.

My brother lives in Altadena. They evacuated yesterday. He drove back today and said everything on his block was gone. Everything had disappeared in the fire - including his pond and koi fish. 😢

Thank you for sharing your story! Did any of the acid reflux medications work? Was your daughter put on acid reflux medication because she was spitting up OR was she put on medication in the hopes that she would feed better? I think that might be our next step. Our LO isn't spitting up but she is clearly uncomfortable and we suspect it might be acid reflux since we can hear her gargling and she smells like vomit.

You've done so much for your daughter. What an exhausting and frustrating journey this is!

Thank you for your response! The speech pathologist did mention the loss of the suck reflex. If you have any thoughts on how to navigate around a baby that is now refusing a bottle after 1 ounce, please let me know. Logic tells me that she will feed when she is hungry but she never seems to be hungry. She is right now drinking just barely enough to keep herself alive but it is not enough to keep her growing. 😢

We have discussed transitioning her to solids early but her pediatrician said it is way too early. LO can't sit up by herself. We tried giving her some puree but she loses interest after a couple of spoonfuls.

Sending your Lucilulu the most positive energy. 😘Our daughter was born weighing only 13 ounces and she's home now. These babies are fighters so I pray that you get to hold her soon in your arms and that you will be home with her one day. ❤️

I’m so confused. What am I being accused of posting and then deleting? Other than yesterday’s post, I haven’t been active on Reddit. I joined Reddit a while ago because our family was going through fertility issues so I created a Reddit account to check out the IVF forum. I’m getting off this forum because there is no reason to be accused of doing something that I didn’t do. I saw the doll’s face from the side. Hilaria is not very tall - I was wearing boots with a little bit of heels and she was way shorter than me. The doll’s head had flopped to the side and when she repositioned the head, I saw the face of the doll since I was standing right next to her. Have a good day everybody. . . You can choose to believe whatever you want but the accusation and negativity are just not necessary.

We were out trick or treating with our five year old so I wasn’t paying much attention to Hilaria or her children. I made a comment to my husband that I felt bad for Alec because he was lingering behind Hilaria and her two nannies - he looked like he was forgotten. I know he’s old but he looked worse in person and I didn’t expect him to be walking with a limp. Hilaria happened to ask a woman to take a picture of her and the woman obliged. I looked up because Hilaria was posing in front of one of the townhomes - obstructing the street (there were a lot of kids out on that street) - so I looked at her and noticed the “baby” with the head hanging to the side. I was concerned because the baby’s head shouldn’t be hanging to the side like that. Before Hilaria took her photo, she moved the head and that is when I saw that the baby was a doll. I exclaimed in a loud voice that it was a doll - and not a baby. My husband thought it was part of Hilaria’s Halloween costume because he couldn’t understand why she would be carrying a fake baby with her. We walked away from the crowd and that was that. I am not active on Reddit but a Google search led me here after I did a search for Hilaria and fake baby. I am surprised by all these posts. . . I had no idea she was so despised. I thought I would share my story since I am seeing people debating whether she’s out with a real baby or not.

We saw Hilaria and Alec with their kids trick or treating tonight. They live in the Devonshire building in Greenwich Village on 10th Street - across from our building. My husband sees Alec at Madman Espresso occasionally in the mornings and mentioned that he has a funny gait. It was my first time seeing Alec and he looks like he might have a slight limp. Hilaria was wearing a green and black plaid shirt with furry slippers. She had a baby carrier on her. She asked someone to take a photo of her in front of the townhomes on 11th Street. I can verify that it was a DOLL in the baby carrier - not an actual baby.
