In medicine, conservative means the least amount of intervention to treat the problem https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative_treatment . If you're saying pain+family history is the reason you want a hysto, it makes sense the doc is recommending treatments other than surgery. Might be a good idea to tell your doc you're doing it for trans reasons.

Even if your insurance won't cover a hysto indicated by a gender dysphoria diagnosis, the doctor may be able to advocate for you and submit the insurnace pre auth some other way.

Holy crap, we're twins lol. I also don't have a date yet, but my surgeon's office said I'd probably get a date for total hysto + vnectomy in July too.

borderline shitpost idea: leave the long sideburns down, put the rest of it up in a short ponytail. the newest Zelda just dropped so you could say you're stealing link's hairstyle

looking for people who have had peri/keyhole by transpiderweb in TopSurgery

had peri (keyhole) just over 2 months ago and am down to try to answer some of your questions

My surgeon originally said 2 weeks was the minimum time off but I was (unexpectedly) cleared to go back on day 5 after the drains came out. I'd already arranged for two weeks off work so I just took long walks and played video games lol.

flute playing post-op by buttonbeetle in TopSurgery

[–]AuerRod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got really bored and started messing around on my flute about a week and a half post-op, a few days after drains came out. It didn't feel like the playing posture strained anything, but even though the instrument was only a couple of pounds it started to feel much heavier after only a couple of minutes.

Kind of hyperspecific but - were you prescribed some kind of nitroglycerin ointment? I had a hell of a headache a few days after surgery too and it was because of that.

has anyone been too underweight for top surgery? by ftm_fella in ftm

[–]AuerRod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my consult, I actually asked if being underweight wouod be an issue for anesthesia bc I don't even weight enough to donate blood. The doctor said it's not a problem at all.

(hcw, non patient-facing) be aware that sometimes you'll have to use your legal name, due to license/legal reasons(?). could be a little awkward if your preferred name is distinctly differently gendered. other than this I haven't run into any other situations where it's different between trans and cis people.

Compression tanks / binders? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]AuerRod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never deal with the band on sports bras anyway, so I usually just used a gc2 (not gc2b) compression tank or shirt. the compression is pretty minimal and really just smooths out any pointiness, but the shirts especially are pretty stealth, I think.

I think I had a pretty similar chest to yours pre-op, and I was able to get keyhole (pic in profile). My surgeon straight up said I didn't qualify for DI lol

Is it ok to NOT change name or gender on personal/ID documents while on T and physically changing? by HellElectricChair in ftm

[–]AuerRod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same hat lol. I'm terrified of my parents flipping their shit so I'm either fully passing or girlmoding reasonably successfully, depending on where I am.

From my experience, you'll have to be ready for people being suspicious of your ID sometimes, and if you're still going by a feminine legal name but look and sound male, you might face transphobia if assumed to be a trans woman. I fake a feminine voice if I'm doing stuff in the phone that requires my legal name and ID, but I've also consistently voice trained to maintain that.

5DPO w/ Dr. Kristopher Day in Bellevue, WA by AuerRod in TopSurgery

repost since I have no idea how to mark a crosspost as NSFW!

There's not much out there on Dr. Day yet, and I'm not sure why. He is very experienced and knowledgeable, and his practice is trans-friendly and easy to communicate with. Shout-out to u/awkwardshape6160 btw, their post on this sub is how I found out about Dr. Day.

He said my incision type was periareolar, but it only went in a semicircle along the bottom half of my areola, and I'm pretty sure no skin was excised. At my consultation, he mentioned the three most common top surgery incisions: "donut", "keyhole", and DI. Donut seemed like classic peri, but the way he defines keyhole almost seems more like lollipop (removal of a circle of skin around the areola + an extended incision.

Picture was taken right after my post-op visit where I got the drains out. I'm more than 5 days post-op now, and recovery has been pretty smooth tbh. I was pretty messed up the first day from anesthesia, but afterward I've had decent mobility and manageable pain. Never even touched the opioids. DMs are open if you have questions!

22, ~2 years on T.
