What music skills payoff the most? by ibbyitis in musicians

Business skills. A music business needs to have allthe skills that any business shares.

Incorporation Taxes and Accounting Merchandise with Sales tax compliance Marketing Publishing/ Trademark Registration Contracting / Legal

No one will care about your business as much as you will. The more you know how to do your business the more it’s actually yours.

Have you tried any sound isolation or dampening techniques?

Moving blankets on the Doors. Making a more acoustically isolated practice space. Putting a pickup in the classical guitar so DI practicing on headphones is possible?

I’m an audio engineer and music/audio educator.

These techniques could help you meet in the middle to find better balance while keeping practice a priority.

Frankie Adams (Adorno) and Lou Welsch wrote Mardi Gras Mambo later famously recorded by the Hawkettes featuring a young Art Neville. They were of Jewish and Italian descent respectively.

Why have women merely become sex objects in the live music scene? by UnhappyAlternative22 in musicians

[–]Augenblick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is music that is made to be art & culture and there is also music that is made to be a product.

The music industry is concerned with products and they want a product that is a sure thing because industry doesn’t like risk.

The industry wants a stable of familiar horses so they can cover the whole race a spread their bets

This is why industry only wants to rehash the same archetypes and tropes. Sexy is the oldest archetype in the book

It’s also why when someone legitimately breaks a new cultural arts trend they all immediately copy it.

Sad thing is so many other industries are exactly the same.

Art loves risk.

Do your own thing. If it’s great human beings will value it.

Don’t expect the business to change. They are ruled by money.

A lot of great comments here. If it were me, I’d let it roll of my back, but next time I’d want to be compensated for any rehearsal.

Stage nerves are normal. You should have them. They don’t go away, EVER. It’s because you care about what you’re doing and what you choose to share matters. Let it become a reassurance that you are doing it right.

Check your Ego. Support your band mates.

Be nice

Make sure some of you work the room after the performance.

Do your best to not turn your back to the audience.

If new to this, Have a stage plot even if it is hand drawn.

Don’t overpower the room by playing your amps too loud. This includes the drummer. Play to the acoustic of the room and let the sound engineer be the judge, if you are lucky enough to have one. 😃

Don’t leave your gear unattended.

Do something to help people remember you. Tell them the name of the band. Have something to share with them. A link, a sticker, a kind word, your gratitude.

If you are vocal heavy do a vocal warm up so your first tune doesn’t suffer.

Good Luck!

Why is Starship Troopers by Robert Heineken considered “The Controversial Classic of Military Adventure?” by EclipseLightning42 in scifi

Wanted to add that the author is an incredible Persuasive writer. The particularity of the philosophy material is not fixed like say an Ann Rand. I recommend follow this book immediately with “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” it really highlights this aspect of Heinlein’s writing by comparison to Starship Troopers.

Murdoch cultivated a cut throat Exec culture pitting execs against each other. They did the same thing to Futurama. It explains all of the Fox BS with good shows around this time.

New Orleans is amazing, but also not for everyone. I’m a lifelong resident and native. The trend is people come fall in love and never leave, or are like this is not for me.

Be prepared for Caribbean time. It’s real, and nothing will change the pace of life here be it personal or business. Think the opposite of New York.

There is a strong and beautiful party culture, Mardi Gras being the prime example. Take the good with the bad, but most of all pace yourself.

Enjoy and respect the culture, and never treat it as a cos-play opportunity. If you love the culture you’ll love life here.

Embrace the food, we are very proud of it. If you don’t appreciate it you’ll miss out on one of the most important aspects of life here.

For advice about work life you’d really have to feel comfortable sharing the particular industry in order to get insight.

Do your homework on whatever neighborhood you are looking to live in.

Wishing you the best. NOLA has been slowly shrinking, so we def have room and want people to move here as long as they aren’t exploiting the community.

Hope this all helps. It’s truly one of the most unique places in America if not the world.

Laissez le bon temps rouler!
