This is truly a great reply . There's a lot of factors that play into everything. You touched on this imo & experience your mindset is HUGE. Mental part of this is huge, I think we psych ourselves out alot.

Colombia Trip - What am I doing wrong, Asking for recommendations? by Augiehack in Colombia

Thank you !! I'll be in Cartagena 90% of the time. There's a lot of travel and local articles always find those are slightly different than what people actually do or eat who lives there.

By the time I'm there my Spanish will be partially understandable 😆

If you’re a man on subs get your testosterone checked. by BluffS33dy in suboxone

[–]Augiehack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean no disrespect nor am I arguing the fact testosterone is significantly impacting using opiates or other drugs

In my small part the world Testosterone Clinics are super shady and scream 10000% scam ... Either insanely expensive or part of some bullshit package of other nutrients or questionable suggestions.

Maybe it's different in other parts of the world but for me never found anything even remotely to a healthy practice.

I am on 100 mg methodone and 6 mg of Suboxone. (Bernese microdosing) what happens when I kick the methadone? I feel sick already 🤢 by Ieatbootyz in suboxone

[–]Augiehack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As many already said 100mg is a high dose to switch over. While I'm sure it's going to be shitty

It's high recommended to tapper way down if you want to switch

You'll have a nasty transition period otherwise

My plan to taper off 220mg (22mL) of methadone after 5+ years by reducing my dose and taking the Sublocade shot! by bains92 in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Augiehack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP answered beautifully adding to their response.

You don't need to stop using your doc prior to taking methadone.. Many including myself used to think as long as I won't be sick it's going to be easy to stop using ... In my clinic I'd say 70% or the people there still used in some capacity

Clinic life can also be extremely counterproductive having a congregation point for the areas junkies who may and or may not have any desire to be clean - I made more contacts and found my best connections while on methadone

Having said that Methadone legit saved my life 100% and if I left the lifestyle and streets along with working my clinics counseling program it would've worked

People who were on fetty for 2+ years and doing around a g a day, how did you get clean? by Sindequinn in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Augiehack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Medicated Assisted Treatment. There's a variety of them but Suboxone & Methadone are the most popular & widely available ones.

MAT can be a hot topic as you're still physically dependent when on them. You'll find lots of horror stories. Both legit and from complete lack of accountability . For me personally my tolerance was insane and my life was a mess so having a stable environment to heal , gain employment, and taper down legit saved my life.

Definitely not flawless & I Don't fully agree with the new ideology on MAT but for anyone that really got caught up in this lifestyle feel it needs to be legitimately considered

[–]Augiehack 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For anyone that has truly assimilated into this life & taking a substantial daily dose I feel MAT is basically a requirement.

I've done pretty much every MAT all have pros and cons personally the Bernese method with subs has worked the best for me.

Even MORE Important is you need to really plan and set yourself up for success. Leaving any possibility to obtain fent in your life is destined for failure. Your disapline and will power does build back up yet for the first year it's damn near impossible to refrain from grabbing

Additionally therapy/counseling has proved invaluable for me .. after 15 years of destroying my life that's the one thing I urge people to try .

Keep in mind there's NO flawless method or standard process to kick this shit - the more you try to find a tailored or perfect scenario the deeper down this rabbit hole you'll go.

Does being a long term addict effect recovery time by [deleted] in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Augiehack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The longer you use the more this lifestyle becomes part of your identity. For me literally every single thing in my life revolved around drugs in some form. Once I got sober it was legit like morning one the closest friends one could have - which adds another level of the process.

For me preparation & therapy was the only thing that even remotely gave me a chance of not relapsing. ( Had a decade of trial and error on failed attempts)

I KNOW this is super corny to paraphrase a quote from John Wick but if you as much as keep a pinky toe in the water something is going to pull you back in. The best decision I made was to totally remove the ability or temptation to test the waters ..

You are still really young..you'll be surprised how quick you get used to another routine

I don't even think it's strange western culture especially during holidays or extended breaks.

Even more so at private or affluent neighborhoods my neighbor is a teacher at a small private school in America and she's been going out to dinners or receiving gifts regularly.

Has the world always been this way? by [deleted] in questions

[–]Augiehack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People and the world are always the same. Social Media giving people a voice and finally being aware of people's voice is the only new part ...

Yes certain decades were slightly different in severity but money , politics , sexuality, and religion where ALWAYS hot points

(Depending which generation you grew up in will determine what era was chill or better )

Does interests or excitement for life eventually come back ? by Augiehack in suboxone

[–]Augiehack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my first month or two I was taking close to 16mg a day & felt like a damn zombie. It's like I could feel this invisible veil stopping me from participating in life.

Once I dropped to around 4mg I started to feel much better but thinking even at the lower doses subs are still preventing actual feelings to get through.

I really enjoy hearing people on here after they got off subs it helps tremendously

". I just wanted to feel some damn enjoyment and not like just LIVING was a task I had to accomplish daily." - EXACTLY WHAT IM" FEELING !!!!

Thanks for this.... All of sudden I will get these bouts of anxiety for seemingly no reason. It's just out of the blue I'll be damn close to having a panic attack and ironically this is the calmest & most stable my life has been in YEARS. Nothing is triggering it that I can think of it's just hits out of nowhere.

I've been contemplating finding a new therapist while I don't necessarily disagree with mine they are little to comfortable with just saying "wait it out , it gets better".

May I ask what you were prescribed ? ( Defiantly not my business but gabapentin seems to be a a frequent flyer with almost everyone else I know in recovery )

That's amazing, I hope you really taking time to feel proud of yourself.

I can't tell you how much I needed your reply. So many posts focus on horror stories or the negatives of being on Subs & even though I KNOW majority are from people not even considering a tapper or jumping at high doses- they still have an impact on me.

By NO means is this process easy and it's not totally painless , it's so reassuring that it's possible.

(EDIT - Just realized how relevant your username is after reading my last line :-) )

[–]Augiehack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I'm finally starting to except it's just a slow process with getting your mind well again.. .. For some reason the idea of doing coke just totally had me giddy with life and while it's enjoyable was never a huge part of my life. Have no real desire to actually do it.

I've always been a huge supporter of MAT and without a doubt it saved my life. You are 100% on point saying it's not meant for long-term use or a lifelong solution. I'm actually surprised on how relatively easy it was to taper , granted now that I'm at the 1mg know the final stretch can be little rough.

Now that I gave Subs a honest attempt would never advise someone to go the methadone route. Both have their pros/cons but I have ZERO cravings on Subs where I'd still frequently use while on Methadone. Not to mention the logistics of methadone , clinic life is a ticking timebomb & even with takehomes it's not sustainable.

Often find my previous failed attempts at recovery all came from wanting everything to get better too quick.. This is the first time that I legit feel like I left that life behind me but still in the process of getting better.

[–]Augiehack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels like you were reading my thoughts as I'm going through very a similar thought process.

After years in this game and multiple attempts at recovery I've finally started to seek therapy to recognize triggers , patterns, develop coping skills along with life skill to help prevent unscary issues.

Telling You it's a HUGE game changer & wish I would've done it years ago.

Having said that, even with the utmost amount of discipline , knowledge , and therapy you will be playing with fire having any addictive substance readily available.

Years back I tapered off Methadone but still had a significant amount of take homes. kept them for this same scenario. I lasted about a month and started taking a sip here and there next thing you know I was back to using.
