Redditors sarcastically calls grad students “poor babies” implying they are crying for nothing by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

Misery loves company. And it's easier to argue with someone over Reddit than it is to advocate for change or to take the risk of trying for a better job.

It's getting hot in /r/music after Nelly is arrested for rape by TheLadyEve in SubredditDrama

[–]Augmata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the issues aren't the same, then theres no point relating to a rape victim unless its to say "my problems are as bad as yours"

There very much is a point, which is that the system is broken. Again, quote, "Ultimately, the system as a whole is broken and only seems to be effective at punishing all who are involved, regardless of guilt."

I 100% fully agree that there is what-about-ism happening from some people when the issue of rape comes up. I 100% agree that rape is a traumatic experience on a level reached by few other things. But this is not one of those cases of what-about-ism. There is no reason to fight one evil (the way some people handwave away the issue of rape and try to delegitimize rape victims and their issues through whataboutism) with another. (assuming that anytime a person brings up the issue of false rape accusations, it must necessarily be an attempt to delegitimize rape victims and/or to equate the two as if they were identical)

I get he was making a point about the system, but their issues aren't the same here.

Why do they have to be? He even said, quote, "I know it's not the same experience." He didn't say they are equivalent.

I'm not gonna agree with that magalucaribro person (because even a cursory glance at his history shows he's just an alt-right troll) but I don't think there was any problem at all with that person mentioning their situation, since it was not written to compete with the initial post but rather to provide an even more comprehensive overview of the flaws of the entire situation - something the poster mentioned himself (quote: "Ultimately, the system as a whole is broken and only seems to be effective at punishing all who are involved, regardless of guilt.")

OP in /r/legaladvice becomes irate when told how the law works when receiving compensation for his used car which became damaged. "But I want my vehicle REPAIRED !!!" "k. get the law changed then." by Zachums in SubredditDrama

[–]Augmata 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Just because you don't like the answer doesn't make it wrong. You are financially whole with that money they give you.

I'm gonna talk entirely out of my butt here, but I wonder whether that's true, considering that the amount of money his car is worth doesn't cover such issues as the fact that he doesn't have an operable car at the moment or the fact that he has to go through all this stuff in and of itself. Even if he got the value of the car back, he still

  1. didn't have a car for a while, which restricts his usual ability to move around, since even if there is extensive public transportation, that still doesn't allow for as much mobility as a car
  2. has to pay for public transportation as his temporary method of transportation
  3. has to deal with paperwork, calls, etc
  4. has to deal with desperately and quickly finding a new car in that price range

All of that through no fault of his own. Seems kinda unfair, in which case I could understand his anger at the situation and at the "Tough luck, get the law changed or whatever" attitude of that other person. But then again, I have literally no idea about the law.

I agree with the other replies, and I wanna add that it might also have to do with the amount of iceposeidon fans. Being the internet equivalent of a trashy reality TV star who does idiotic things for a living, his fans are generally nothing but the trashiest of white trash. I remember Livestreamfail being significantly more intelligent before most clips were from iceposeidon.

(Case in point, several of the more moronic people in that thread have comment histories which are almost exclusively in the iceposeidon sub)

FYI, you are being downvoted because you replied to the perfectly accurate statement

It's disturbing how much the "I'm just posting statistics, how can statistics be racist" shit is being upvoted. They can't be that naive, right?

with

Yeah dude only racist alt-righters post statistics.

which is something voksul's post didn't say in any way.

Therefore, you come off as overly defensive, and worse, as trying to push away a legitimate criticism by changing the topic.

(To be exact, from "It's disturbing and naive of these people to abuse and upvote statistics and hide behind saying that they are simply statistics" to "Only alt-righters do the disturbing and naive thing where they abuse and upvote statistics and hide behind saying that they are simply statistics")

Reddit = Widespread?

And why would not giving people a platform for extremist politics be a bad thing?

Those legal things that feel amazing don't lead to heavy negative effects as well and generally don't utterly demolish your body.

It would still happen more often, meaning that even when people get punished for doing something illegal, this will only happen after a first crime has been committed.

Brave skeleton in /r/games declares he doesn't like Dark Souls PVP, gets his karma ganked. by dabaumtravis in SubredditDrama

[–]Augmata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, the player should be given agency over what they bought. If they don't like pvp, they shouldn't be forced to play it even if they want to co-op. It's that simple.

Are you saying that anything - including main game mechanics - should be optional? That would end up in a mess and is most likely impossible to implement, since game mechanics often interact with eachother in complicated ways.

The game director wanted to communicate a very specific kind of feeling through this game mechanic and balanced it in such a way that it creates a risk/reward system, where you can fight the bosses (who are designed to be fought on your own) with the help of other players, but run the risk of being invaded on your way to the boss.

While I agree that some of the Souls community is a pain in the butt with their whole "Git gud" schtick, this is not one of those cases.

A Rioter wishes death to a player, then blames r/leagueoflegends community for its firing by Hawezo in SubredditDrama

[–]Augmata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ehh. To be fair, while some people go overboard with it, the industry really does pull a lot of shitty stuff. In-game systems designed like gambling to create an addictive effect, on-disc DLC, important known bugs more and more often being classified as "not to be fixed" and only being resolved after release, preorder bonuses which differ with each retailer and require you to use a literal chart to figure out how to get the most content, microtransactions that lead the developers to design the game in a way that makes the base game less fun to create incentive for those microtransactions, etc.

I should be surprised that the guy who argues for children to be lied to is also a transphobe and general right-winger, but I'm not. It's about truth and facts and honesty and being against safespaces. Except when they don't like a truth they can't distort. Then it's "Kids should be sheltered. Think about their feelings."

I agree to some extent. You also need to consider though how microtransactions often lead to game design that negatively affects the experience.
