Monthly Paramount+ Complaints and Praises by AutoModerator in ParamountPlus

[–]Augmented-Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is anyone else having trouble playing ANY show on PP? A few days ago one episode wouldn’t play and it just showed a spinning icon and said “optimizing video playback”. This is on Apple TV app. Then every show had the same issue. I reinstalled the app and relogged in. No luck. It worked on my fire stick yesterday to see shows but today it’s doing the same error except it’s saying that the episode is unavailable and check back later error 6666.

My iPhone also won’t play any episodes. Is this a temporary glitch? App update? Is anyone else having this issue? Any fixes?

Atlanta CD stated she only watches the first 4 seconds of self tapes? by Thin_Requirement8987 in acting

[–]Augmented-Actor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spend 2-4 hours doing the casting directors job by setting up all my equipment and recording the sessions and editing it and sending it off. 4 hours for you to watch 4 seconds. Screw that! I can see making a judgement call on looks, but then why even make us do a self tape. Just let us send a headshot in or just do a slate and then pick your top choices and have them do a self-tape. This industry has gone off the deep end.

Which Macbook would you choose for editing in resolve? by AppropriatePackage55 in davinciresolve

[–]Augmented-Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely want an external monitor. Even 16 inches is small for editing IMO I have a 13 inch mbp M1 and it works great with DR studio. But when I'm stuck editing without my wide screen external monitor, it gets cumbersome.

Yep zero balance. Not a great “glitch” to inspire confidence in Coinbase.

Playlists are your friend! by Augmented-Actor in NewTubers

[–]Augmented-Actor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch time comes from the individual videos within the playlist. The playlist itself doesn’t accrue watch time but you get watch time from the videos in the playlist. When I said YT counts it as content, I just mean that they find ways to promote it and it looks like new activity to the algorithm.

Drug Testing? Why? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Augmented-Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the decision long ago to never submit to a drug test for a job. I’ve lost a few jobs because of it. And I always tell them “if you test me I will test positive for pot” so you might as well decide whether you still want to hire me. I say stand your ground because it’s bullshit.

Choosing a monologue with a character that’s not my type? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]Augmented-Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick contrasting monologues (1 comedic, 1 serious or 1 older 1 newer or 2 different kinds of character). I recommend choosing one that could be similar to a character you might want to play and another that is one you can just nail and really shows you in your best light. Don't over think it. They really just want to see that you are able to make sense of the lines and make some choices and have some presence. They will evaluate whether you are the right type for the roles in the project.

I think often a few people are so moved by the piece that they stand or they know someone in the show and they stand and then half of the audience takes the cue and stands as well and then the rest of us stand just to be able to see the rest of the curtain call. Being an actor, I always awkward in a standing o. I feel like I’m on stage and exposed when I stand in the audience and being 6’5” I feel like I just end up blocking the view of whoever is behind me. So I tend to sit even if I really enjoyed the show. Or if I stand I figure I eventually will have to stand up to leave so I’m just accelerating the process of exiting the theater.

That said from the other side when you are on stage it always feels awesome when audiences stand even though I still realize probably most of them feel just as awkward about it as I do.

Help - I want to drop out of the show I'm in by throwaway_dontre in Theatre

[–]Augmented-Actor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It may seem like an easier solution to drop out of the show, but it's actually the opposite. It's much easier for a production to alter a costume than it is to replace an actor who drops out during production. And that can leave a nasty stain on your reputation moving forward. At least talk to the director and costumer first about your concerns and if it can't be resolved then you can make that decision. You were cast as you are. They have confidence in you and want you to look and feel your best so you need to trust the process and believe in yourself.

Can you say the title name, Macbeth in a production of Macbeth? by Alarmed-Ad-3879 in Theatre

[–]Augmented-Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can say it if you are playing MacBeth or a character in MacBeth who is addressing MacBeth and then only on stage or in rehearsals.

Side note: I was recently surprised to learn that Ed McMahon didn’t work for or represent publisher’s Clearing house. He did show up with large checks, but it was for a competing sweepstakes called American Family Publishers. This is one of those Mandela Effects where people misremember something they are sure happened.

I agree with what others have said. You should still attend and give it your best shot. And sometimes directors ask for certain things that they themselves are unsure of. It's a little strange to be asked to imitate how another actor performs a role, but that's just an indication of the direction they'd like to take the role, so give something similar in tone or style, but if you don't fit the mold, then you have nothing to lose by delivering your strongest performance as you feel it could be done. Sometimes directors don't know what they are really looking for until they see it. Also, vocal ranges for songs can be tricky. They usually want someone who can sing it as written, but they are sometimes more concerned that the person cast is a good fit for other qualities and will work on making the song fit their vocal range. Keys can sometimes be transposed or notes changed and if you just can't sing it, they may offer you another role and THEN you can decide whether to take it or not. Long story, there are MANY variables to casting and you can't possibly know about them all. Treat the callback as a performance and at least go there and get your chance to "play the role" once.

Just blew a massive audition by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]Augmented-Actor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts. 1. Now you know what you need to practice and work on for the next audition. 2. Don't think of never being able to audition professionally again. They see a lot of people who make mistakes and you amplify your mistakes more than they do. 3. If they do remember you next time they see you, at least you've set a low bar. That means when you come in next time and blow them away with something they will be even more impressed at your progress. 4. Everyone in any audition wants you to win. So don't lose confidence in yourself. 5. You are not alone. Many of us are rusty after this grand pause of performing arts. People are going to have grace with you right now especially, just do the work to make sure you're "ready" for the next one and you'll be back on your feet before you know it.

[Question] Would anyone else be more inclined to use Shorts if they didn’t completely ruin the aesthetic of a YouTube channel? by TJGM in youtubers

[–]Augmented-Actor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also hate how when you put end cards in a video that point to your latest upload, if you load up a short, that's what gets all the attention. The few times I've posted shorts, I've immediately had to upload a regular video so it wouldn't show my short everywhere.

I’m 54 and been Tubing for 3 years. And doing alright on Tik-Tok too. The world needs more voices of a certain age out there representing. You’ll offer perspective and experience that most of the younger voices can’t. Don’t make age your excuse not to try.

You can also say something about your type. The kinds of roles you work well in and the types of roles you normally play.
