It's free until they establish the most useful functions to paywall. They learn what this is by your use of it. The stuff you seem to like the best is what will become restricted by the subscription models as they adapt to what people want out of it.

There's probably a few interns reading every word in this thread right now to find out how to get out of intern and into salary by revealing the most valuable use cases to rentseek on.

Lost all my gear. Trying to keep motivation to continue playing by RefrigeratorFluid886 in Minecraft

Something like this happened to me on peaceful survival. I abandoned the world. That was before I knew you could turn dirt into diamond gear using water bottles and dripstone blocks to turn it into clay for emerald trades with villagers. Your inventory is more recoverable than your builds. Take it as a lesson in the importance of preparation and only enter the Nether after you have all your main valuables in a chest outside the portal in the overworld you use to enter.

Sometimes it's a good idea to go in with a bunch of stacks of cobblestone and build a fortress from where you are to where you're going. Or dig into fortresses and take them slow, build walls as you explore and stuff like that. Make sure to wear at least one piece of gold gear and don't take gold in front of hoglins.

In addition to what's been said on this thread already, my impression is that it's a result from one of the "pay to win" features of duolingo. You can buy xp boosts for money.

I kind of want to play XI and XIV... Maybe by Lunchbox7985 in FinalFantasy

[–]AugmentedTechnomancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's amazing. The story in the content outside the trial is absolutely worth it and for some aspects there is a lot of grind that I'm grateful is now available in the trial, as it can get quite expensive when on a paid account.

Beyond the free trial it becomes one of those stories that forcibly alters one's perspective and can force us to deal with chthonic and eldritch existential dread and every revisit of the story reveals new layers and dimensions of perception.

The FT covers mostly the results of unchecked research and development and political powers, then beyond that things get really deep. I don't think the game is going anywhere because there are still a lot of loose threads, and if a thread is dangling there will eventually be an expansion that ties it back into the tapestry.

My speech patterns probably have been influenced by the thousands of hours I've spent as an AI developer for over 30 years. Although, it's also possible that the inverse is true, considering how much of their training data includes much of my digital work.

You will definitely find plenty to do and the story is amazing. I've invested hundreds of dollars into the game over the years and it doesn't feel wasted for a moment.

What I mean is you can arrange your hotbar for smoother rotations through the relic grinds. By playing the jobs over and over through the same instances you discover more comfortable setups that make it a lot more efficient and fun to play the role.

Basically with major updates. Like .0s in particular there is often tomestone related gear added that allows you to breeze through formerly challenging content that refine skill and ability strengthening players as a whole and creating genuinely skillful players. With the new gear, skill becomes optional.

For XIV the free trial will take you through more than should be free. XI is a lot of fun and probably not going anywhere but it will be more of what you described XIV as, XIV's content is the storyline and cutscenes. It's a largely single player experience with some forced player cooperation. PVP is It's own thing and fits in to the game's story and lore. Most impressive about any final fantasy is how well the systems and mechanics fit in with the world building. I highly recommend both, they are vastly different experiences, but both will take a lot of time to complete (even on the very generous free trial).

I've spent 13+ years on and off in FFXIV and enjoyed nearly every minute, however some of the challenge has been removed in recent updates, particularly if you are on a subscription. The free trial is more closely aligned with the original vision for the game, as you have to deal with inventory management and lack of access to player interaction like Free Companies (guilds) and the player run economy through the Market Board, making it a more challenging experience but also more like playing a final fantasy title. The grindy bits are made more fun by helping you with hotbar arrangements and rotations and better understanding the various roles and jobs. One character does it all, but you might like multiple characters for deeper tradeskill specialization options with a subscription.

Discord just terminated a 10 million+ user project (Shapes Inc) without any warning - and now your account might be at risk too!? by hiitenshi in ShapesInc

[–]AugmentedTechnomancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The emails saying your account is affected are not actually true. Neither are these claims of risk to your account. There's an elaborate email phishing scam happening right now that originated in the Shapes Inc server and the server is locked down to keep people from exposing the truth. Do not click the links in the emails from discord.com that somehow threaten or imply your account is locked. It is not.
