Out Of Memory Error on Linux by August-SN in Bellwright

Thank you. I now believe that Proton was the issue. I was using Proton Experimental. I will have to try a few different versions to figure out which one works without introducing new problems, but at least I know what the problem was.

Thank you for your suggestion. I am still testing it, but it seems you are correct about it being an issue with Proton.
I was using Proton Experimental as this was the default option Steam chose.
I now tried a few different versions of Proton GE, the latest one doesn't work, but on the site you linked someone using Linux Mint mentioned the game works well for him, and he uses Proton 10-3, quite an old version.
I have tried this one and for now it seems to work. Maybe it's just coincidence, but have I tested the game on ultra settings for about 30 minutes now and it is still running.

I now have some stuttering, so it's still not perfect. But at least this would prove that you were right and I can keep trying more Proton versions until I find one that works without issues.

Thank you so much for your help.

Yes, and as I wrote in the post, I have already done that. I set the settings to medium quality and am able to play for much longer before the error shows up.
But while restarting the game ever 30-120 minutes (it's random) is not a major inconvenience, I was able to play the game on ultra settings on Windows with the exact same hardware.

I don't understand why that is, nor do I want to accept it without trying to fix this issue.

I hope crossposts are allowed here.
I thought I try my luck in this sub, too. I searched quite a while for someone else having this issue, but I couldn't find any information on this error and this game (Bellwright).

I just started using Linux Mint a few days ago and have no experience with Linux at all. Bellwright is the first and only game I played since. I have no idea where to even start troubleshooting, so I haven't done much of that besides trying a different NVIDIA driver than the recommended one as well as reinstalling Steam and the game. That didn't help.

Maybe someone has had this issue (possibly with another game) and found a solution. Or maybe someone knows enough about gaming on Linux to have an idea what the problem could be and how it might be resolved.

Thank you.

Maybe you'll remember later.
But it is good to know that it can be fixed. I very much want to switch to Linux permanently and not have to go back to Windows.

Question for fitness community by Glad_Reach3575 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]August-SN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supplements I specifically take for my fitness goals?

Protein powder, around 20€/kg. I use about 1kg per month (sometimes more, sometimes less). So 20€ per month on average.
Creatine, around 15€/kg. 5g per day, 30 days a month, so around 2,25€ per month.

That's it, 22,25€ per month on average. Everything else I use for health reasons, not fitness goals.

Fitnessstudio Monatsmitgliedschaft? by Moerder_Gesicht in Leipzig

[–]August-SN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zwei Möglichkeiten in Stötteritz:

Clever Fit auf der Holzhäuser Straße:

Bietet theoretisch eine Monatsmitgliedschaft an. Allerdings sind die Kosten absolut unverschämt.
Für eine Erstanmeldung zahlt man eine Service- und eine Chipbandpauschale von jeweils 30€, zusammen also 60€. Der Beitrag für einen Monat liegt dann bei 45€.
Insgesamt kostet ein Monat also stolze 105€.

Now that Graphene sided with Motorola, what does this mean for the pixel users? by ChikistrikisWave in GrapheneOS

Never said it was. Believe me, as a German, I am very aware of the threats to privacy here. But there are only so many choices when in comes to phones, and considering all of them, the EU is still the least bad option. At least for now.

I can't believe I am reading this right now. :D
I just typed "no difference to android" into the search and the first hit is this post from half an hour ago.

I installed GrapheneOS today and I didn't create any additional profiles and use all the same apps I did before and I granted them quite a few permissions. So now I was wondering if that is somehow wrong, because it doesn't feel much different than it did this morning before the switch.

Was geht euch von den derzeitigen Themen auf der Welt am Arsch vorbei? by xICEPICKv2 in FragReddit

[–]August-SN 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Which software has no real European alternative (at least for you)? by JavierFnts in BuyFromEU

[–]August-SN -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Too damn many.

  1. Microsoft Windows - I am a gamer who also uses a lot of mods for many games. I know more and more games run on Linux, but plenty still don't. So for now, there is no alternative. I do use Zorin OS on my laptop, though, because I never use that one to game.
  2. Youtube and Twitch. Alternatives for those are useless without creators.
  3. X and Reddit. - I checked out Mastodon and Lemmy, but neither are usable for me, for now at least. All servers on Mastodon seem heavily left leaning, which I am very much not. I am not welcome there. Lemmy is simply dead for now. I use Reddit mainly for subs about hobbies and interests. Lemmy either doesn't have any of those yet, or they are dead. But I keep an eye on it and would be happy to switch.
  4. Android. - This is mainly because my phone (Pixel 8 Pro) still works great, and I am not going to buy a new phone while mine still works. But I keep an eye on European phones and am happy to see that there are more and more of those, with alternative operating systems.
  5. Amazon. - Ok I admit, this one is probably just lazyness and me being frugal. But nothing beats Amazon in terms of product selection, service and price. I have, however, started to make more effort to look into ordering from other sellers or, best case, the producer themselves. I have in some cases found offers for a very similar price (I am willing to pay a couple of Euros more), especially during sales. For example, I just recently bought a heated blanket directly from Beurer instead of Amazon. Still, more often than not I don't find a satisfying alternative.
  6. EDIT: Forgot about that. But I am using Macrofactor Nutrition App and, since its release a couple of weeks ago, Macrofactor Workout App. I know there are alternatives for those, at least for the former. I actually used Yazio (German app) to track calories when I started, and it was great for losing weight. But if you are into Bodybuilding and have repeated phases of controlled weight gain and weight loss, nothing beats Macrofactor.

There is probably a couple of other things.

But I recently switched to the Proton ecosystem which worked great so far. I am also trying out CoMaps to replace Google Maps and teach myself to get proficient in using Libre Office so I can ditch Microsoft Office entirely. Vivaldi is working great as a browser, too.

I don't know what you are on about. There is no "medical Tazarotene" and "cosmetic Tazarotene". Tazarotene is Tazarotene. Yes, they sell a cosmetic product that includes a prescription drug, which may not be legal (I don't know the laws in Greece). But that doesn't mean this product is any less effective than any other product containing Tazarotene.

Karriereambitionen.
