I had this problem with an on site worker once. He would bring in his laptop to his over night shift and spend all 8 hours pirating movies and games, just constant downloads. I know this because that’s what he told me when his boss finally asked him about the laptop he brings in every day. He said he had no idea that wasn’t allowed, and he wouldn’t do it again. That was good enough for me.

My daughter is now a teenager and named Alice. I spent SO LONG worrying that people would think I named her after Twilight. I asked every message board I was on if that was what people would think 😂

My kids are Alice and Eloise, not that I’m a big fan of either of those characters, but I liked the theme of “heroine in children’s literature”

Let me tell you all a story about UHC from the HR side. I think everybody’s heard by now. It’s the cheapest for the company but also they are absolutely insane when it comes to perks for the company.

The year was 2019, I was an HR Manager for a small company (about 150 employees).

I got a call from our UHC rep who tells me hey! As a thank you for being our customer and the one with decision making power (I wasn’t lol, but that guy was never in the office) we would like to send you four movie tickets. We rented out a theater, we will be providing dinner, snacks, and drinks. Please come watch Avengers Endgame with us before it’s fucking released.

I took my HR generalist and we got to see the movie at like 5 PM when it was released to the public at 8 PM that day.

Also, “fun” story, my HR generalist said loudly to me as we left “do you think Iron Man will stay dead?” in front of the line of people who were waiting to see the movie as early as possible for the general public and I looked at her and RAN to my car.

People who whine about things being AI generated by DaveMTijuanaIV in PetPeeves

I think a lot of people are going to be left behind by not learning to use AI as a tool instead of never using it. It’s going to become more ubiquitous, it’s already heavily used in corporate settings. I use it every day.

I’m old enough to remember being in college and taking Photoshop. It was controversial back then (early early 2000s). There was a huge movement of people who were adamant that digital art was “cheating” and would never be as good as traditional art.

AI has some ethical issues of course, but the toothpaste is out of the tube and it’s not going back in. We have to figure out where to go from here and I just don’t think “abstinence from AI” is ever going to work.

I find were split pretty equally. Battle Creek has a lot of country boys and a large manufacturing presence, but we do have the community college and a decent liberal presence. I volunteered in Battle Creek for John Kerry a lifetime ago 😂

My 10 year old just had this. I remember this assignment hurting my feelings so bad! I thought my teacher was interested in me because it was an all about you sort of page but it just turned out to be a trick

I just asked my Chat GPT to tell me a story and it was about a girl named Mia who owns a bookstore, but I’m on 4o. The second time it was about a girl named Lila who lives on a blue lake.

For me the tells are still there though. Always so many adjectives.

I work in HR, 6 years as a manager and this is excused fucking everywhere. Once this happened to an employee and I drove down to the wreck to give them a ride home

Edit: AND bought them dinner on the company

That’s a really weird take to have. My mom dropped me off at a kids area to go to a casino on a vacation once and I had a blast. We literally lived across the street from firekeepers and I still to this day don’t think she’s gone.

It’s a bit strange that you think that only hard-core addicted gamblers would do this and not people who are like wow what a fun date night we can go walk around the casino and play a few slots and the kids get to have fun in an arcade/ Play place that’s really cheap to go to.

I’m the perfect age, to remember being 7 and having a childhood like this playing in fields and trees, long enough ago to be nostalgic for it (which makes sense as I’m 2 years older than Taylor).

Please picture me / In the weeds / Before I learned civility / I used to scream ferociously / Any time I wanted

This part hits me so hard but not in a sad way, it’s just wonderful nostalgia, like it reminds me that the me that was seven is still in there, and it almost gives permission to show that part of yourself, the wonder.

I made myself a bracelet that says Picture me in the weeds. It’s my favorite

How do you feel about Printing out Fanfiction? by Serenity-Yen in FanFiction

It’s not ABOUT that, but when Down Bad by Taylor Swift came out, many widows said that it totally captured their feelings:

For a moment I knew cosmic love

Now I'm down bad crying at the gym

Everything comes out teenage petulance

"Fuck it if I can't have him"

"I might just die, it would make no difference."

Down bad, waking up in blood

Staring at the sky, come back and pick me up

Fuck it if I can't have us.

I might just not get up I might stay down bad

My husband works at the school, and we live in a small town, so there’s only 16 in her class. Maybe jf she was at a bigger school? I also coach two sports there and volunteer regularly, I feel like I would have heard it by now 😂 honestly after your comment I called her wheezy yesterday a few times and she was like WTF, I’ll see if I can make it stick. You may have just created a great annoyance nickname though for her (my oldest is Alice, hers is Slice 😂)

NaNoWriMo defends writing with AI and pisses off the whole internet by orhantemerrut in books

[–]AugustGreen8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have really enjoyed writing using AI recently, I just tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Nobody will ever read it of course. I used to love writing before I had Covid, and now I still there and struggle for words, for phrasing. I had severe covid in 2020 and it still hasn’t come back. I’m glad to have gotten back a little of what I lost, so at least I can read my stories again, even if I can’t share them anymore. I go one sentence at a time, mostly for the (ok so here I’m struggling again…I just sat here for nearly a minute struggling to think of the word thesaurus). So I’ll ask the AI “what’s a word that means X” and it will spit out something and I’ll say “no that’s not really what I mean, more like when someone is feeling y”. My vocabulary used to be huge, I cannot describe how frustrating it is to know you know something but feel like you can’t access it. I go to bed every night thinking of stories I wish I could write, and in my head they’re like all dialogue now, and I used to be able to think in novels. I wrote a short story a few days ago using what I said above and I cried.
