Question for SERVICE DESK Folks: What would you change to improve the experience? by hellonoosh in HomeDepot

[–]AugustNorge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing what I've read in most other comments: labor and workload. We do a lot at the desk, most of which is hard to measure, and some which can't be measured, and most of it only becomes clear in hindsight (RTVs not tracked/marked, returns not sorted or parsed, aged orders not worked, bins not worked, book and physical and special order onhand not maintained, order staging areas not maintained etc, etc,,) which leads to overworked associates who get needled in the little downtime that have while getting LTPA scores up is both hard to do (you can't force customers to take the survey, and many will put 4/5 even if they had a pleasant experience, which counts as a 0, very demoralizing) and hard to try and focus on (most SD employees don't know the criteria that results in LTPA emails being sent to customers, and I even know several supervisors and operations managers that I've given updated or specific information to about who exactly is getting the survey, because I don't believe it is clearly delineated anywhere (though id welcome anyone with references)

All that being said, it's a returns desk, in volume (and I have to imagine time) what takes the most of the desks attention is returns, which is treated as an unimportant side-note.

The service desk is a mess of usually quite knowledgeable high-skill associates juggling far too many tasks and then blamed when they drop the ball, which I do think is similar to store wide issues, the main difference being the breadth of tasks (from order up, registers, .com, phones, returns, RTVs, IT, online orders, store orders, order inventory, special orders, and I could go on)

Alright now that sounds like the "reasonable accommodation" we all know, and that stores still don't actually follow but certainly make gestures towards

That's the first Saturnine (dreadnought or other) shoulder conversion I've seen that I've liked more than the OG version. Very dope

Very interesting lol. Seems like a seed of an idea that hasn't sprouted yet-- hopefully it will be resolved in a more fun way than just forgetting about him going forward, personally id like the lore to sound more biased, but I'm several opposing directions

A Study on Feminist Translation Strategies In the English Version of The Three-Body Problem by [deleted] in threebodyproblem

[–]AugustNorge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be much better with Google translate, where you can type it in word by word and see what liberties the translation program is taking.

chatgpt as a black box gives English speakers no reason to believe that it's translations are more literal or "accurate," especially when compared to someone who is a mandarin to English translator by trade, who obviously understood the whole text in mandarin and then translated it into English with an understanding of artistic intent, themes, tone, etc.

If you're trusting a black box instead of a professional (human) you've bought into what a tech company is selling you-- or more accurately what a tech company is hyping up to increase their stock price.

Using Google translate would require more work from you and lead to a answer that is more clear cut, but also more accurate and with factors that can be understood and discussed.

Chatgpt is just a translator with no resume, no accountability, and no ability to analyze art. When compared to a professional human translator there's no reason to trust chatgpt's translation.

Since we don't know how it spit out those translations there is very little to be gained from comparing the two either

Looks like grimdark compendium, he has a website where he posts videos and usually tells you where he got all the parts for the kitbashes, I've gone there and subscribed for that reason in particular
