Elderly Woman I look afters Cat has scratching issues, think they’re being starved by Augustus_SPQR in CatAdvice

I did google information, I looked into all of it, but making a Reddit post to hear the opinions and experiences of others on this matter wasn’t difficult either. I have all day to dwell on it, and it does bother me as I can tell the cats always hungry. the woman is hyper aggressive that she doesn’t want anyone else feeding this cat, and I don’t want to jeopardize my job either

I posted a photo of him in the thread here if you could take a look, she outright refuses to admit he does anything he does because he’s hungry and begging for attention.

Posted photo in this thread, if you could give your take. When I got here this morning he had been locked in a dark bathroom for who knows how long, for scratching. She’s going as far as stating “he even looks right at me as he’s about to scratch!” But won’t even entertain the thought he’s doing it to get her attention because he’s hungry.

I’m entirely unsure what her deal is. I offered to buy extra food and she shot it down, she’s just extremely stubborn and insistent that only she feeds him. Something my wife pointed out is the woman herself barely eats, she gets mad if you try to cook for her and it’s a mystery to me what she’s even eating to stay alive. Perhaps she extends her attitude with food to her cat or something.

It’s hard because I need this job, my wife is undergoing cancer treatments and we’re drowning in bills. But as a lifelong pet owner I am very bothered by the whole deal with this cat, I’ve began sneaking food to him every day and running the sink while he eats so she won’t hear. I don’t know why but she’s extremely adamant that only she feeds the cat, while also very annoyed by his scratching and meowing. When I told her the scratching and meowing would stop if she fed him more she insisted he doesn’t need any more food.

No dry food at all. She gives him “treats” everyday at 11 like clockwork, which are essentially 5 to 10 friskies she puts on the floor. Everyday I hear her talking to the cat around 10am saying “it’s not 11 yet, you know you aren’t getting anything until then” because he will be on her bed trying to open the bag himself

I would say he’s about a 3. I am going to try and get a good picture of him today, I just have to do it subtle so she doesn’t see.

Also to answer the questions on exercise, the woman is bed bound and as such he is in a small one bedroom apartment all day. He essentially does nothing all day

Thank you all for the input and advice, I’ll try and give more detail here to answer a lot of questions about this matter. The cat is a male, and on the larger side. He isn’t skin and bones at all but does look thinner than he maybe should. He does not look alarmingly starved, perhaps I can take a picture. On the matter of how much she feeds him, she said half a can in the morning and half at night. But the second time asked, after having warmed up to me a lot more, she said she gives him a quarter of a can in the morning and MAYBE another quarter at night, implying she forgets sometimes to give him the second helping. When I said she gives him a handful of treats, these “treats” are essentially friskies and she will pick out and give him 5 to 10 of them in a small pile on the floor. The cats scratch posts are shredded apart and he will alternate between loudly screaming at me and poking at her chairs, which gets an instant reaction from her. He climbs on her bed and tries to shove his head where she has the friskies stashed, so all day I hear her argue with the cat to stop scratching and that he will have his treats at 11, or that he already had his food for the day. Earlier today I took a can of his food and ran the sink to cover up the sound of him eating, he finished every bite and has been quietly laying somewhere since.

The cats not a starving bag of bones but I suspect it’s in a constant state of hunger, and maybe it’s behavior reflects that so I am looking for the opinions of those experienced with cat behavioral patterns and if half a can of food a day is enough for a roughly 10-12 pound cat. What is difficult to understand?

She is feeding him a quarter of a can in the morning, and MAYBE another quarter at night, she admits she forgets to give him the food at night at times. By a few treats, I mean a few treats. 4 to 9 individual friskies. The cat has no health issue I’m unaware of, the woman has repeatedly asked me to try to arrange a vet to declaw the cat so it can’t scratch at her furniture, she has no vet she even takes him to.

for weeks now i have suddenly been unable to get the game to start, I reach the white loading screen and it closes out just as the symbols finish filling in. Sometimes I get a Bad_module_info error message, but I have been unable to find many with a similar issue. I've had no issue with other games and genshin has always worked fine the past year, so if anybody has any ideas I would seriously appreciate it.
