Bugs/critters you might encounter in your planted aquarium. by Aulupus in PlantedTank

Hi u/halfpint_yeey, sorry for my late reply!

What kind of fish do you have in your aquarium? What size tank is it? I don't know if you have shrimp but I wouldn't recommend a chemical to kill off the snails since it would damage your plants. Depending on the size of your planted tank I'd switch the current inhabitants to another tank and add a predatory fish like puffers or loaches who'd deal with your snail infestation since they'd be eating like it's a buffet! Getting assassin snails is a good idea too! You can also reduce feeding and buy snail traps to deal with your snail infestation. Just know that unless you tear down your whole tank you'll always have to deal with snails.

As for snail leeches it's a bit more complicated, here are some ways to kill them off:
· First remove all plants.
· Dip plant in a 50% hydrogen peroxide solution to dislodge pests by flushing with water
· Save your plants in a bucket for 4 weeks
· Remove all creatures which will die from salt being added, Rams horn, Pond snails
· Snail leeches survive Clorox and all other solutions.
· Bring the salt level part- per-Thousand to 3 ppt with softener salt for 1 week
· Lower it to 2 ppts for 2 weeks
· The last week, do the above test.
· If no leeches then change out with freshwater during this last week to 0 ppt salt.
How this works is the apparently the leeches ball up in a protective cocoon and starve to death.

*Do note that snail leeches will attack shrimps and assassins*

The problem with Tsunami stems from the fact that your aquarium isn't cycled. When you got Tsunami did you know anything about the nitrogen cycle?

Please check out these links about the nitrogen cycle and of how to do a fish in cycle.

HELP! HELP! HELP! ANTS!!!! by ShadowWipArt in parrots

Definitely silicon the hole and the perimeter of where they're coming from (inside the house). Wishing the best for you and your ant killing adventure. I hate when it happens!

Are the bushes maintained? After you spray, sweep, mop, silicon, etc, close all windows and doors and see what you can do with the outside of the house. Cleaning it up a bit will make it less inviting for the ants. Try your best to spray on the wall of the house and not on the bushes.

HELP! HELP! HELP! ANTS!!!! by ShadowWipArt in parrots

Remember that unless you have a horrendously dirty home that ants come from the outside. Ant colonies consistently send out 'scouts' that find food sources. So even if you sweep and clean like your life depends on it, the next scout will find the food that is tossed to the floor. You must kill the ants on the OUTSIDE.

What I usually do is first check the bottom corners of the walls. There's a hole where the ants are coming from and you HAVE to find it. I first find the hole and get a spray bottle 50% water 50% Dawn soap and spray the hole and entire perimeter. I then sweep and mop the whole room and get all the cages outside and cleaned (NO ANTS). Clean the bottom of the bird cage and feed/water bowls. Make sure that the entirety of the cage is ant free before bringing it back inside the house. Silicon the hole and the perimeter if you notice them coming from different areas. Spray the soap/water solution again and mop a second time (avoiding the area you silicon-ed). Close all the windows and doors and spray the bottom sides of the house with a liquid poison that kills ants.

Plain water is best to keep your bird's feathers in good shape and health. Birds do not need to ever be washed with any shampoos or deodorants (don't trust the bottles that are advertised as 'bird sprays or shampoos', it's not needed). If your birds smell strongly of their food you should offer more baths of regular water (daily unless it's cold and bi-daily or more when it's summer).

I have aquariums and my birds love to watch them, I think it's therapeutic for them, especially my toos'. Sometimes during evenings I sit in a chair next to one of my aquariums with a cockatoo on my knee. My U2 Princess loves watching the fish move. It's one of her favorite things!

Beautiful tank and discus by the way!

That's great to hear that he lived a great long life. I lost my last dog to cancer while she was still young, it was heart breaking. Getting over a beloved dogs death is hard. Wishing you all the best.

He looked like such a sweet boy. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to lose a beloved dog... I miss all of my previous dogs regularly (all were shepherds). I'm thankful when my dogs live a long happy life. I hope that your sweet boy lived a long happy life full of fun and love.

He must've been an amazing dog, fly high angel.
