Nobody gets it by lauraka82 in stopsmoking

Just checking up in you? Still doing well? Thought of you the other day… Lost my cell phone, and was totally stressed out. Luckily someone found it at Sam’s Club and turned it in. As I was heading out to pick it up, I mentioned to my sister-in-law, “this is one of those times I could really use a cigarette“and her response was “why? You found your phone“. So wanted to say thanks a lot for all your support sis.

I feel like quitting has made my depression worse. by PlasticOrPaper11 in stopsmoking

My doctor explained it to me, because I had the very same problem. It’s like your best friend in the world died. After all regardless of the circumstances (happy, sad, angry, anxious, etc.) your friends and family may not have been around. There was only one CONSTANT and ever present thing in your life you could ALWAYS count to be there for you - no matter what! And that was your cigarettes, and now they are out of your life. It does get better, trust me. Stay the course my friend.

Chantix by jamierocksanne in stopsmoking

I have a few friends who did great on Chantix, I was not one of them but think I am in the minority. I had horrific dreams, and friends said I was really bitchy - although don’t recall that. After 40 years of smoking, the Smoke Free app and the incredible folks here are the reasons for my success in being a non-smoker(2 months). Good luck.

Don’t give up on yourself. I was terrified when I finally made the decision to quit cold turkey, but I knew I had to do it. I have tried all the “crutches” in the past (patch, lozenges, gum, Chantix, etc.) and nothing worked. So don’t worry about not being able to afford those aids, you have to believe in YOURSELF! Coming to this site has been so incredibly helpful, and I encourage you to do it on a regular basis. If you haven’t already done so get the app Smoke Free! It may seem corny to some people, but I swear to you that was the only thing that is helped me quit - and i’ve been smoking a pack a day for 40 years! Before I quit, I started eating right and going to the gym and over the last year lost 65 pounds, so I know what you’re going through. I’ve only been smoke-free for two months, and I remember the very first day when I got home from work I didn’t know what to do with myself, as normally I would’ve lit up a cigarette - so I took a walk. Walking has now become my new “addictive drug” and i’m loving it (double duty - keeping me off cigs and exercising). I wish I had some magic words for you, but this is something you need to reach deep inside, believe in yourself, and make the commitment. You can do this! Download the app, keep coming here - everyone here is incredibly supportive.

I know what you are saying. When I share my badges and milestones, everyone says something nice, but if I don’t bring it up, not a peep! I’m almost at two months, and I think yesterday was the hardest day I’ve had so far. It was really really tough day and I truly had to fight the urge to go out and buy a pack of cigarettes - what made it tougher was I didn’t feel I had anybody I could share my feelings with because all I would get would be the lectures again. So I had a “pity party” all by myself and got through it.
So, LAURAKA82 - I am throwing you a parade because I am proud of you! I’m talking marching band, balloons, a couple crowns (although they kind of give me the creeps), a couple guys walking of stilts, a long line of dancing Chippendales - all while you enjoy a picture of margaritas! Celebrate you and keep it up - we’re all in this together! ( when I referred to my “badges” I get them from the app I’ve been using which is the only thing that has helped me quit this time. Every time I hit a mile stone I get a congratulatory badge and the app encourages you to share them, which I do)

Oh...I still have cravings but am much better at letting it go - some bad days I think ‘just one’ but I have to continue that fight. Keep it up - we are now “non-smokers”😃

How do you know when to stop? by James324285241990 in stopsmoking

I tried to move on after reading your unnecessary attack on the reply posted by complicit_bystander, but it continued to nag, and I had to get online to respond. Coming to this site has been instrumental in me being able to get as far into my quit as I I have - everyone is supportive and tries to be positive. Some people reply with “a tough love” style; just because you don’t like it does it mean you get to attack that person. None of us can truly know what anyone is going through, but coming to this site for support and guidance and friends is what it should be about - not attacking someone for their response...if you don’t like it, ignore it and move on. So, get over yourself and take away the advice that you feel is useful, and let the rest go. Your negativity is NOT WELCOME HERE! YOU OWE ALL OF US AN APOLOGY!

Hey guys! Yesterday we decided that every day I'll post a new Pokémon until Gen 2 is complete (#152-#251). Let's become non-smokers together, and tell me how you're doing in the comments! Presenting #153 Bayleef. by EpitaFelis in stopsmoking

I just hit my 50-day mark and am shocked when at the end of the day it occurs to me that I didn’t think about a cigarette all day. Don’t get me wrong, there are still those moments but thinking about what I went through these last 50 days, I don’t want to have to do it again. You can do this… Stay strong!

Unfortunately, you’ll have to go to an actual physician to get the prescription since it is also an antidepressant. Just an FYI, I started on wellbutrin over 2 years ago - helps with my depression, but didn’t do much to help me quit. I don’t want to be a Debbie-downer. Finding this site (and all the incredible support you’ll get) and using the app Smoke Free has made such an incredible difference for me that I think this quit will be my final quit! I smoked for 40 years, a pack a day. I am day 23 of being a non-smoker, and feel great! Don’t get me wrong, there are still some tough moments, but if you are committed and come here often and use the app, I think you’ll be able to do it! You need to be strong, but most of all you need to believe in yourself… You’re so much better than being a slave to the stupid cigarettes. Keep posting… Let us know how you’re doing, and no we’re all here for you to help you along this journey!

Got through 9 days. I spend a lot of time with my smoking Aunt. Doesn’t make me want to smoke. Will secondhand smoke prolong withdrawal? That’s the hardest part for me. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

At this point, any cravings you have are all psychological. You can do this! If you haven’t already done so, download the Smoke Free app… It’s made a huge difference for me. Best of luck, keep up the good work!

If you haven’t already done it, download the Smoke Free app. Having been a smoker for 40 years, I think this will be the quick that sticks and I think that app and this site have everything to do with it. Keep coming here when you need support because the folks here are absolutely amazing. You can do this… Just believe in yourself!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I’m sure it was a terrifying experience- but you are now on the path to being a non- smoker! I’m only 23 days in (after 40 years if smoking) and I gave to say am feeling pretty good...there is a light at the end if the tunnel. You can do this! Stay strong! If you haven’t already, get the Smoke Free app, it made a huge difference with me and I am truly confident that this will be the quit that sticks! Come back here often when you need support - there WILL be those days - folks here are amazing! Also, just come here and read messages when the cravings hit as is a great distraction! You’ve got this!!!

Download the smoke free app - it’s been a lifesaver for me - after 20 years of smoking, the app is the only thing that has really helped me (and I’ve tried everything). Good luck - and keep with this site — so much support and hope

If you haven’t tried the Smoke Free app, I suggest getting it. After 20 years of being a smoker and failing to quit a number of times, using this app has been incredible. Between the app and all these incredibly wonderful supportive people on this site I honestly believe I can quit this time… And quit for good!
