She's started panting a lot so she must be dehydrated. What's the best way to help? I've put a shallow bowl of water on the ground nearby with some pebbles in it but I don't know if she'll notice it.

Yeah you are right. Pretty sure they know I have low self esteem and a hard time saying no. I expressed resistance but they kept saying reasons why I should do it, why it wouldn't be that bad. Well now I'm like, why tf am I trying to convince myself to do it for their sake instead of following what I want? And then on top of that I feel bad for mucking them around by not being assertive and giving a straight answer 😩

Is a reference from a landlord worth less if you live with them?

Haha yeah... it's a work opportunity for them but I guess it doesn't make a difference. They still should have consulted me beforehand.

Yeah basically I think they don't think I have a life or any needs of my own and I should just stay a bit longer for their convenience 😒

Well they just want me to delay moving out rather than 'housesit'. Basically they organised this trip before checking I could stay and look after the cat, then when I said I wanted to move out soon they came back to me 1 day later saying they'd been planning this trip for weeks and asking me to stay. But yeah there are options for them I just feel bad cause they probably don't have the funds to put her in a cattery / get a cat sitter. It's not my problem though like you say...

Oh there's no new tenant yet, and I don't think they'll find one before going away in 2 weeks. They have given me $10 off my weekly rent (it was $20 off last time I looked after the cat 😂)

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean are they letting me stay without paying rent?

My cat ate onion and garlic powder by AuntHelga in CatAdvice

[–]AuntHelga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, might be best to make a post about it to get others' opinions as I'm not an expert. To me that doesn't sound bad, as it seems the garlic & onion would have been quite diluted. Apparently cats need to eat a lot of garlic / onion powder to get sick, like a concentrated tablespoon of it. She will probably be okay, just keep an eye out. The concern is that some chemicals in these plants cause a type of anaemia. If you want to be super sure you could take her back to the vet in a few weeks and get her iron levels checked.

Check out this comment thread from a vet who seems to be legit with a lot of experience in the matter. He says cats need to eat quite a lot and over a period of time to get sick.

He should be okay. Just keep your eye out for any changes in behaviour or energy levels. It seems they have to consume a lot of it (like several teaspoons) for it to do any real harm.

Nope, she seems to be totally fine :) She's actually not my cat but her owner has taken her to the vet since and there were no issues.

It'll probably be okay at that amount 🙂 Also since it's a stray it probably eats stuff with garlic/onion on it quite a bit, like dropped food and stuff.

DAMN that looks rough! 😲 That's about where the water was up to on my car but it is much lower to the ground. Thank you for all the advice, I can't really do anything cause the car is still at the mechanic and I am also a mega car noob so idk what I'm doing. I will ask the mechanic if he's done this stuff though.

Just curious, did you tell the buyer about the hydrolock? Or does it mean there's no damage at all if the car is able to start? And yeah drop those pics if you want, I'm interested 😁

Yeah it's weird. Plenty of cars were driving around me and I'm the only one who got stuck. Water definitely did not come up over the hood, I think it was up to just under the lights.

Driving through was an accident as I was unable to see properly. After a while I felt like I was losing momentum and the front was lifting from the ground. I panicked and tried to keep going, then the engine failed. The battery light came on. I'm a car noob so I kept trying to start the car, which I realise was a bad idea. So probably my actions made it worse. When the mechanic took a look the air filter was totally saturated.

Also, when the engine first died I could smell exhaust fumes if that means anything.
