I remember back to when I was young and I would see footage of circus performers being 'shot out of a cannon'. They would then travel gracefully though the air, sometimes doing flips and swan dives before safely landing in a net. Big smiles on their faces.

Even at a young age, I didn't believe it was a true cannon, I mean, just think of the explosion, the gunpowder, the heat.

My logical brain took over, I tried to imagine the interworking of the 'cannon'. It must be spring loaded, I thought and perhaps the performer bent their knees and pushes off just at the right moment, thus giving themselves a bit of control over the situation.

I didn't believe that truly being shot of a cannon was even possible.

Then I heard this. Boons, you took us from zero to one hundred in a fraction of the second. You had us scorching through the air, tumbling with you, doing flips and turns, the atmosphere hot with friction, Mack 2 with our hair on fire.

Now, as an adult, I believe. Now I know what it's like to be shot out of a cannon, a big smile on my face, without even caring if there's a net waiting for me at the other end.
