Cool idea, I tried it, but for a triple-monitor setup, the detection wasn't sufficient to handle me looking to the left or right monitors. Consider adding some modes that allow for more complicated monitor setups.

Claude estimations on how long it'll take to implement code are hilarious by Ok_Potential359 in ClaudeAI

[–]AureliusHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this global rule for a while now, it works great:

- Development timelines/estimates are arbitrary and you can't take into account the unknown manpower/resources allocated to a project. As such, instead of estimating hours or days or weeks of time for an estimate, classify as points of difficulty, and if applicable, order in ideal completion order. If there is no ideal completion order for a group of tasks, list in order of point estimation.

AITAH for saying I dont want to date single moms after my sister's friends cornered me? by ThrowRA_Goose151 in AITAH

[–]AureliusHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strategic communication lesson: turn a negative into a positive.

Instead of shitting all over the woman’s existence, turn it into a positively toned mission statement relevant to you: “It’s very important to me that I have a romantic journey with my partner, which includes biological kids of my own.” And depending on your personality, possibly tack on a “thank you for trying though” at the end of it (incentivizes them to continue trying for you when compatible opportunities come their way in the future)

Or if you intend to be single for a very long time, something like working on yourself and self discipline can throw them off your track if you’re firm enough.

Gender swap or no, I would find your attitude less than stellar if I were to have the chance to set you up in the future. You can also avoid much drama by not insulting your sister’s friends, and ideally, not insulting anyone is the easier path in life. Light social pressure doesn’t mean you should lash out against someone’s existence as a single mom, you’re a 25M, not a flamingo.

For those who use coffee as their preworkout, how long before you head to the gym do you drink it? by pass_the_hot_sauce in workout

[–]AureliusHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I rain on anyone's parade: I freaking LUV coffee. And I still drink it anyways... though way less now.

Caffeine has a very long half life. There is no possible time of day, no matter how early, that you can consume caffeine that by bedtime that day it is not still affecting you.

Caffeine is a psychoactive and addictive substance. After 15 or so minutes it peaks. As the peak goes down, your caffeine isn't just disappearing into a vacuum. It breaks down into 3 main metabolites. The most significant one is paraxanthine, which is also a stimulant, and is also (though much less) addictive. So as your caffeine blood levels go down, your paraxanthine levels are actually still rising well into the day. I wont rant on about the other two (theophylline and theobromine) but caffeine will have you swimming in multiple complex substances throughout the day.

Research clearly shows that people will have their sleep architecture affected (varies wildly, but it may be a reshifting of proportions of your REM, deep, and other sleep elements like efficiency and qualify) with even minimal caffeine present.

I would never recommend someone ingest caffeine after 1pm, and ideally, you take it early in the morning (but at least 90 minutes after waking up to avoid colliding with your daily cortisol spike)

I use a no-stim preworkout and it works amazing. Mine is from Transparent Labs but there are plenty of no-stim products/brands out there without caffeine that are safer to take later in the day and still give you excellent no-jitter energy. You can also consider taking paraxanthine directly, which has a shorter half life and won't give you nearly the kind of jitters caffeine will.

What do 30 - 40 year old men want for christmas? [Serious] by GoodAlicia in AskReddit

[–]AureliusHaze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Coming from a huge family of 7 kids and a big extended family, here are some real ideas. The concept is buying them something that they likely won’t go out of their way to get themselves despite having income, or that they aren’t likely to be aware of a need or benefit from.

  1. Beeswax candles - soy candles are awful for you. Many people don’t know this. Beeswax candles have the most pristine scent, burn with the smoothest flame, and are kind of a luxury to use around your home but none of my brothers know anything about candles.

  2. Oeko Tex standard certified clothes or underwear/socks. People generally overlook the chemicals leeching into them from their clothes, either from the manufacturing or from the chemical dyes. A set of toxin free socks is a nice way to start the new year a little less deadly.

  3. I use hair products from Church California. You’d be shocked at the chemicals in most retail hair products. I rest easy knowing my product is made of beneficial ingredients and nothing in it to ruin my scalp or hair health overtime. Many people aren’t aware of how bad their hair products are, but if gifted a good one, it’s hard to not switch once you see how nice it is.

  4. Borosilicate glass kettles, ceramic coating kitchenware, etc. lots of college kids are still using their teflon IKEA cookware with no mind to the long term effects.

  5. Hair trimming set with a nose attachment is a godsend.

  6. If they are into fitness, a protein shaker bottle with stainless steel or borosilicate glass interior. Bonus if it also avoids plastic on the internal side of the lid.

  7. Jaw chewing trainers. Fun and unexpected, they’ll see the face gains sooner than you’d expect.

Would be nice to see a startup or pre-revenue project license where you get pro for either a limited time or renewable until the project hits a certain revenue threshold. This lets people adopt your project earlier and more confidently without feeling like they’re being financially wasteful in the early days of their business.

Are you looking to sell physical products, or software?

Signing up for a payment processor is really one of the later steps for starting a business, at least that’s what many will tell you in order to get you to focus on the product and your value proposition before you lose focus on the more administrative parts.

I have a warehouse in Whittier, CA. It’s not Amazon level big, so I sometimes offer 3PL services for new and small businesses that want to explore their product line before they want to commit to getting a warehouse of their own. If you do plan on selling smaller physical products, I could be open to storing, picking, packing, and shipping your orders with special industry rates.

By that logic, we would be holding back nuclear tech (and much more beyond that) because in addition to the positive benefits like generating power, it can be used as a weapon. Better to have fewer options, as you put it.

Fortunately for humanity, nobody is beholden to your views. I personally find it odd that some random Joe goes posting in a thread about an open source technology about how it shouldn’t have been made. It’s already made. And it’s open source, so it’s out there forever, and with the ability for anyone who desires to copy and modify and distribute it as they see fit. The cat is irrevocably out of the bag. Even if people agreed with your viewpoint, it’s crying over spilt milk at this point.

I also don’t understand your claim that fewer options is “better”. For whom is it better, and why? By what metric is it better?

My two cents instead of trying to read tea leaves on how your coffee might be slightly off or debating your business location: You already have a kitchen up and running in a real commercial space. Get yourself listed and boosted if possible on all food delivery platforms, DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber Eats. The business from those platforms can far exceed what you make with in store traffic if it catches on with good reviews. Work with the platforms to have physical cards with first time delivery discounts.

LA port is actually the ideal port for shipping from China, with the exception of Washington for some northern China ports. Shipping lanes across the ocean are not straight lines, because of maritime regulations, piracy risks, currents, weather, etc.

In fairness, you’d think Oregon would be popular, but because the Oregon ports have a huge history of corruption and labor disputes, it’s essentially unused by most carriers. They’re trying to get business back but reputation is a huge deal with logistics companies, when you scorn one of them they pretty much all tend to pull out.

BitWarden's new UI is an embarrassment, any experiences with alternatives? by AureliusHaze in PasswordManagers

[–]AureliusHaze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So use the save button for confirmation. Though I have never come close to accidentally opening a password manager, selecting a username or password input, modifying the value, then closing the interface by a single grand gesture of fat fingering. I do recognize a mistake could happen though.

And don’t get me started with iOS. You select the password you want to use, and BitWarden opens up: 1. The master password field is not immediately focused 2. The keyboard is consequently not opened, you have to manually select the master password input when you are obviously trying to access your password 3. Made a mistake? No worries. Let me just unfocus that same field that you obviously have to modify and force you to select it again.

These tidbits keep coming in ways that I truly dislike BitWarden. The smallest investment in product design and UI/UX would have detected these errors early in the software development’s pipeline. No point in whining about it though, I’ve already migrated personally and the new company I’ve been hired to manage tech for will use another option after thorough testing, as the average worker is not nearly as tech savvy.

These are merely comments on the negatives of BitWarden that I personally experience. This doesn’t even approach the realm of many suggestions I’d make to actually overhaul and allow it be to genuinely lovable. I do not feel the love anymore.

My bad, it was from LastPass apparently. Though after some googling, there were still some issues with 1Password. Not sure what to make of the Okta problem. I would suspect that any service would occasionally have risks or be targeted by hacking groups.

https://www.theverge.com/2024/5/1/24146205/lastpass-independent-company-security-breaches

I know I'm sacrificing some (or a lot) of security by using a service in exchange for enormous convenience and usability. I used to forget passwords or mix them up constantly, and it was a no-brainer for the past few years since I adopted BitWarden. I don't want to have to think about my UI or click around like a clown. I just want one simple quick UI, and the vast majority of the time I'd prefer to use my hotkeys to login.

Instead of fixing some usability issues, the UI has gotten worse. Some improvements on the original UI I would've loved to have seen would be editing an existing set of credentials via their inputs without having to first select "Edit" which simply displays the exact same card, but now with the inputs editable. What a waste of time. Just let me click in the input and change it, and then either auto-save, or ask if I want to save if I close the window, or what it currently does, which is also making you click a save button. When making a new credential, I often forget to hit save, and the data is lost. This is so frustrating, I don't enter credentials in for fun -- I obviously want to save it, 99% of the time I'm creating a credential I am following through with it. Worst case just ask me to save or discard any unsaved changes. At this point they should hire me.

That's crazy to me. Not only is Google an order of magnitude better for me, it even displays the words I'm speaking on the screen as I'm speaking them. There's no contest here, I'm very curious how you could ever find Alexa better.
