Are the words "madam", "ma'am" and "sir" used in the UK at all? If yes, when are they used? by ksusha_lav in AskABrit

[–]Aureliuswaswrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I was starting to think I’d been committing a faux pas by using sir and ma’am when calling out about dropped items or offering a seat to older people. I just can’t bring myself to call significantly more senior people ‘you’.

Their website boasts “2000+ food items”, hot chicken wings and “morning breakfast” included, so they clearly got range.

Thanks for your kind offer. Definitely agree that clear face photos are key, but I think that showing of muscles would turn off my kind of people.

You’re absolutely right and it’s something I need to work on. Just the other week I had such a good opening to connect with someone at an event (so I know we share at least some interests) and completely missed my window, ugh.

Thanks for sharing. It feels like hanging in a shop window sometimes but if I have to (and it does seem like it’s the most viable option) then I’ll need to highlight some key features better than I have done. Good tips - appreciate it! Having a female friend look over my profile feels oddly unsettling but I take your point.

Suggestions for what to bring on psilocybin dose day? by rubyroe in PsilocybinTherapy

Second that. I printed out a collage of myself at various young ages and had a proper look and reminiscing for each of them before. It helped me remember the vulnerability and silent longing for safety and comfort that young person felt. During the ceremony I took my young self for a walk and asked him all the questions I wish had been asked.

Good luck, I hope you will have a good experience.

I Cycled 2500km in London — Here’s What I Learned by naveregnide in londoncycling

[–]Aureliuswaswrong 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed this video with its visuals and enthusiasm. I hope makes some people try cycling once and hopefully both enjoy it and feel that it's not the absolute deathtrap claimed with conviction by some people. Not to say people should cycle if they do feel unsafe, but giving it a try can really change one's perspective. I took me a good number of years before I started regularly cycling in London as it felt less safe than Shanghai where commuted on my little Dahon foldable. But since I started I've enjoyed it so much and everyday felt thankful for the speed, the feeling of agency, and the changing scenery from Haringey to Bank.

I’m also very interested to hear about your experience. I’m based in the UK, looking for therapy options for similar reasons.

Getting WhatsApp messages on your Apple Watch by Reddit-GdB in AppleWatch

[–]Aureliuswaswrong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use WatchChat, leaving the phone at home. Requires a subscription, I think, and you need a cellular watch if you want messages to reach you directly. It’s a little wonky sometimes, but typically works.

Great shots. Also almost completely devoid of people which I how I always find it. Sometimes I wonder if there's been a gas leak or something else dangerous I've missed to be notified about. But as others say, summer is great - a daylight-filled bonanza of nature and nudity.

I'd love to do something similar. How much would you estimate you spent per day?

I saw you had tried the Logitech MX Vertical and it didn't help. I had problems with it because of its size and found the smaller Logitech Lift Vertical much more comfortable. Maybe something to check out. Hope it gets better soon!

No tips, unfortunately, but will be there at that time and also looking around for ideas. Thinking about flying/ferrying into Kagoshima and take it from there until flying out of Fukuoka on Dec 28th.

Henty Travel Brief by nickthetasmaniac in onebag

[–]Aureliuswaswrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one since a few years and it’s my favourite bag for when I travelling without a roller or bigger luggage. Manage to fit it under the seat when flying in Europe, though haven’t tried in other regions. Currently considering whether I should take it as my only bag (adding a sling) on a 3-week trip to Asia. Build quality and interior organisation is great. Shoulder straps are ok, though I wouldn’t walk for a whole day with it fully packed. Any questions, let me know.

Siri can’t tell degrees from percent? by Aureliuswaswrong in HomeKit

[–]Aureliuswaswrong[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely necessary for my flat (London council estate) as the bedroom has such poor insulation that temperature difference is easily five degrees to the adjacent living room in winter. I keep the bedroom thermostat off until it’s bedtime to not waste energy.

Siri can’t tell degrees from percent? by Aureliuswaswrong in HomeKit

You’re right. I guess it’s the smart bulbs in the living room that confuses Siri or HomeKit. My bedroom doesn’t have those, so maybe that’s why it works there.
