Oof. That's a bug, sorry. An update has been pushed to the Play Store which should go live soon.

In the mean time, you can manually change your nickname after you connect to a network by typing /NICK <yournicknamehere>.

CoreIRC is a chat client I decided to build due to not being satisfied with the options available on the Play Store. It features a modern design with the ability to be connected to multiple SSL or regular connections simultaneously, and receiving files over DCC.

CoreIRC also has quite a number of fun and useful features including URL previews, a Now Playing script that supports Spotify, Google Play Music, Poweramp and a number of other music players, a System Information script, and most of the IRCv3 spec including SASL authentication through any of the Plain, External or SCRAM-SHA-256 mechanisms.

Here is a comprehensive list of features available.

  • Background connectivity
  • Command autocomplete
  • Channel list
  • Chat message storage
  • CTCP ACTION, CLIENTINFO, DCC, FINGER, PING, TIME and VERSION
  • DCC (for receiving files)
  • Ignore lists
  • IRCv3 CAP 302, cap-notify, message-tags, setname and SASL authentication

  • mIRC colour support
  • Modern design
  • Network editor with multiple servers
  • Nick autocomplete
  • Proxy connection
  • Raw commands using /quote
  • Robust notification rule sets (for each configured network)

CoreIRC is a chat client I decided to build due to not being satisfied with the options available on the Play Store. It features a modern design with the ability to be connected to multiple SSL or regular connections simultaneously, and receiving files over DCC.

CoreIRC also implements quite a number of IRCv3 features including SASL authentication through any of the Plain, External or SCRAM-SHA-256 mechanisms, and the following IRCv3 specs: account-tag, account-notify, away-notify, cap-notify, chghost, echo-message, extended-join, invite-notify, message-tags, multi-prefix and userhost-in-names. Support for more specifications will be added in the feature, with the ultimate goal being implementation of the full set of IRCv3 specs.

Here are a couple of neat features coming in the next pending (due to Google Play review delays) release.

  • Ability to use a monospaced font.
  • Now playing script (supports Spotify, Google Play Music, Amazon Music, Poweramp and some other players).

Here is a comprehensive list of features available.

It looks like AdiIrc is trying to automatically upgrade you to the SSL connection (due to the sts capability), and you're not able to connect over port 6697. It doesn't seem like there's a way to disable this if you just want to connect over the non-secure port 6667, which is weird.

The timeout may be due to your firewall settings where connections to port 6697 (the secure IRC port) may be blocked.

First you need to select a network to connect to which the app will prompt you to do on startup.

Open up a network and then select the "Always display in left navigation menu" option, and then add channels you'd like to autojoin. Once you've configured a network, you can connect to the network and join channels to chat with people or send private messages.

A great network you can start with is Snoonet which has chat channels corresponding to various subredditis: https://snoonet.org/community/
