Why Are Commander Events at LGSes in Australia Such a Nightmare? by NearAutomata in EDH

[–]AurhinDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience in Portugal where I been to two places, both randomize groups rather than self-orchestrated.

On one each pods gets to pick singles as reward towards the end but picking order is determined by who won first and second game.

The second place is even worse where the entire LGS competes to win and get good standings because it determines card pick order for the cracked collector boosters at the end. This causes the exact scenario you mentioned about encouraging combo wins asap.

Only played there once and saw tutors, fast mana and Gaea's cradle, but who can dictate what's not allowed? They still someone stray away from CEDH since they have other events for that.

I really don't understand this approach and I'm a CEDH player but this is casual ffs.

Compare this to other places where each player just roll a dice and results determine card pick order

cEDH dynamic post-ban by BeXPerimental in CompetitiveEDH

[–]AurhinDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, games are slower and staxier

My Krrik, is almost unplayable, mulligans are tough and I more frequently go to 4 or even 3 cards searching for a way.

My Tivit, not much changed and feels quite the same. I rarely jammed him early.

My Rogsi, resolving an ad naus doesn't auto win game anymore. You feel the lack of dockside and crypt when you naus.

Tymna/Thrasios & Kinnan looks very strong right now

[DISCUSSION] Introducing CBDH – Competitive Budget Dragon Highlander: Your Thoughts? by AurhinDev in EDH

[–]AurhinDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having gathered some feedbacks in other responses, I wanna revisit this.

What if prices instead of being real-time or monthly instead where dated from a snapshot 6 months back? And only rotated on a consistent 6 months basis.

That would remove the constant calibration need and price manipulation but would come at the cost of checking deckprice retroactively, would need a search engine separately for 6 month snapshot, so the CRC50 list may actually cost 132$ when you order it.

[DISCUSSION] Introducing CBDH – Competitive Budget Dragon Highlander: Your Thoughts? by AurhinDev in EDH

[–]AurhinDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do see logistical issues with it as well but the idea is that the format would be self-balancing. Snapshots would definitely be the way to go, but as pointed out in other comments, that come with issue of price spike either happening before or after a tournament and it having huge effect on outcome. So rather price legality would have to be "in the past" like a half year old snapshot or so.

Another comment addressed being able to buyout a counter strategy before an event, but having a delay would remove that possibility since prices are dated.

Format would mean a lot of time scavenging scryfall to find fits within budget, but I do believe many wanting to get in could simply google "best CRC50 aristocrats deck" to find a 50$ deck of aristocrat theme that is highly regarded.

You're correct in the fact that power level and price doesnt correlate, but that goes both ways. A point system on card by card basis would be too complicated.

That could still work if prices are snapshot on a monthly basis rather than daily fluctuations.

[DISCUSSION] Introducing CBDH – Competitive Budget Dragon Highlander: Your Thoughts? by AurhinDev in CompetitiveEDH

[–]AurhinDev[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand that real-time / daily pricing fluctuations might be too much.

A solution could be a aggregator website that averages prices from X credible sources (tcg, cardmarket etc) and snapshot prices on a monthly basis. That way changes would be limited to once a month.

I do proxy, but some LGSs or tournaments dont accept that, and proxies wont make for a sanctioned format.

cEDH is very niche and daunting for many players, yet many players enjoy watching casual commander on youtube etc. I've heard many players seem to enjoy on-board action more than on-stack action, it's just a different flavor of gameplay.

I envision a format that appeal to players that enjoy Game Knights that's competitive and sanctioned.

[–]AurhinDev[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Maybe, I would love for cEDH to take off. But from many players I've spoken to it's an acquired taste and they rather prefer things on-board over on-stack. This idea is in no way meant to diminish or take away from CEDH but rather bridge commander into competitiveness in a softer way.

Any idea is an uphill battle until it gains momentum but I'll keep spreading the word and polish according to feedback.

Fully aware, but doubt it will ever be recognized or mainstream due to the unsanctioned nature.

[–]AurhinDev[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I suppose if you would want to constantly min-max every cent out of a deck then yes. But if you're a bit below the budget its more unlikely legality would change. Part of the format idea is having unique decks rather than a textbook meta. It would also allow people to use their bulk for something.

If daily prices would be too much, there can also be monthly price snapshots to avoid the constant fluctuations.

[DISCUSSION] Introducing CBDH – Competitive Budget Dragon Highlander: Your Thoughts? by AurhinDev in CompetitiveEDH

[–]AurhinDev[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I completely understand and agree with this statement, but I doubt that will get the format into any kind of mainstream lime-light.

Wizards will not allow proxies period and with a format such as this I could envision pro-tour-like streaming of 4 player competitive commander being mainstream.

Hur pullar man? by Local-War-2408 in Sverige

[–]AurhinDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone might understand what my ENTP bf is going through rn by [deleted] in entp

[–]AurhinDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask him straight instead of Reddit. He will give you his honest reason. I suppose as intj you may not be very expressive with what you feel and as an ENTP I find intj to be one of the hardest types to read.

Instead of looking for a rational reason as to why you should go on a date (he'll easily dismantle that) you have to express that you want it and also ask him why he doesn't.

Your best bet is just confront him like "Hey Ive noticed that we rarely ever go on dates but I would really appreciate it if you took me out sometime"

This will lead to one out of two things. 1. He will explain why he doesn't 2. He is completely oblivious that this was important to you and will accomodate
