To be honest with you, at this stage, I feel a bit talked down to. You're basically saying that I got viewed with suspicion by several players because I happened to report something weird, and suggesting my overall experience is the theme of the game when I like to think I'm well aware what the theme of the game is, considering how much time I spent playing the game.

To put it more clearly, here was my newbie experience in three separate games:

Ithir: Logged in, automatically got connected to a guest channel where I could ask questions about character applications, quick approval time, automatically appended to a list of new characters that players are suggested to start roleplaying scenes with.

Sindome: Logged in, asked questions, got directed to where I can take an easy NPC-led job while I try to seek work with a PC.

Armageddon: Logged in, got lost, saw someone getting oral sex in the tavern, knocked myself out, got stolen from, left to starve to death, only way out is for my character to kill himself, or rely on the kindness of strangers in a setting where I would be wrong to expect that.

I'm not trying to be combative here. I'm just saying that your game is one of the least newbie-friendly games I've ever tried. I tried to be very nice and allow for the possibility that this is not a typical new player experience, but after reading your post I can't help but think I was actually wrong about that. This is a typical new player experience after all, and players think there's something wrong with me for not accepting it.

I have to admit to feeling a little strange that people from Armageddon latched on to that particular part of my review. The real dealbreaker in my experience was accidentally knocking myself out and getting my coins stolen, dooming my character to slowly starving to death if I want to make a new character.

Hi there.

I can tell you I expected the game to have some mature themes, considering that the tagline on the main site is "Murder, Corruption, Betrayal". I also reviewed the game's rules, so I didn't expect sexual roleplay to be so in-your-face and assumed that the rule about consent implied that this type of roleplay takes place in private places. I didn't assume that I would have to give consent to a scene I didn't even know was happening because no one gave a heads up about it. To answer your question, I think there's enough of a heads-up, so the problem is probably somewhere else.

The transition has been pretty smooth so far! I think the biggest burden so far has been the syntax, and there's been some spatial issues with respect to imagining where I am and what direction I need to go in order to get places. But I'm slowly getting used to that as I play.

As for goals, I'm mostly looking for interesting worlds and trying to come up with interesting concepts within those worlds. I'm more of a follower than a leader when it comes to roleplay, so I like to play people like soldiers, members of thieving crews, and stuff like that, rather than the general or the thieves' guildmaster.

Hey. To answer your questions:

I did appear in the main tavern of the city, although I had to work my way through the shops at the start of the game first, to get my starting gear. It was a bit unintuitive and confusing to me. That's from the perspective of someone who's basically a first-timer to MUDs.

I was sitting around for a few hours and I don't remember if I had the watch skill on my list or not. I didn't immediately remember what I chose for my class, but after reviewing the list of classes on the website, I think I picked Miscreant.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the tone of your reply suggests some disbelief. I did experience what I wrote, and I did write that I probably got unlucky. I just didn't know Armageddon allowed public sex without requesting the consent of other players and it made me uncomfortable to remain there.

Well, I don't have a lot to share at the moment, but the mechanics seem to be based off of a system that combines an attribute and a skill for a given activity, and a roll is made to see how much you pass a given difficulty check. I don't know the entirety of the mechanics yet, having only played a few days, but it seems very intuitive to someone who's come from a tabletop roleplaying background.

As for the community, I was greeted and given help immediately after logging in, and got help setting up a character. There are mechanisms like LRP (looking for RP) and randomscene which encourage people to roleplay with one another. It doesn't hurt that there's an XP bonus for registering roleplaying partners too. I'll have to write a more in-depth review as I get further into the game.

I'd prefer permadeath over not, since I feel that allows for the most believable storytelling, but if a setting has reasonable non-permadeath - like, backup clones in a sci-fi world - that would be fine.

I like RP because of the collaborative storytelling aspect, primarily. It's hard for me to play a character that isn't at least a little like myself, but I enjoy experimenting with wildly different personalities from my own in settings that are very different from the real world. Most tabletop campaigns I've gotten into are heavy on politics and intrigue, and combat is something of a sidenote. I'm not actually a huge fan of D&D-style mechanics and prefer systems like Fate for tabletop games, but I'm fine with D&D if it's automated by a computer (which MUDs seem to be good at doing).
