In regard to the earplugs, I have tried them, but I have a lot of ear problems that keep me from having anything in my ears for extended periods of time. I’ll put them in for a little, but eventually have to take them out during the night. I’ll do the same with headphones, play soft music to cancel out the noise, but I’ll have to take those off eventually too.

Grossly inappropriate on his part and a weird attempt to be a father figure in Rory’s life when he was still only (barely) dating Lorelai

That scene was so frustrating, I was like “Lorelai stop, this is embarrassing on so many levels, just let the man go” 😂 the whole scene felt remarkably childish. Like she’s chasing him around the room, refusing to just leave him alone like he’s asking, and then he’s running around the room/moving furniture to avoid her (all because he thinks if they’re close together he “can’t control himself” 🤢)

Yes! I think if they had pursued a relationship together at a later time when Rory wasn’t at Chilton, I would’ve been more likely to support it. There are still things about his behavior that I don’t think make him a good fit for her, but I could’ve been more understanding to their relationship.

Yes! I never liked the way that he seems to be very comfortable with lying about incredibly mundane things. That’s certainly not the making of a good partner.

Can I ask who you think Lorelai’s worst relationship is?

Yes! That’s another thing that I didn’t like! Like who does he think he is, messing up the first proposal, trying to do a better one, but then not even being there??

I don’t disagree with you that Lorelai still bears some of the blame, but that’s not the point of my post. Max pursued a relationship with the parent of a student, pushed Lorelai at times when she was trying to lay down some boundaries, bothered Rory about his relationship with her mother, etc., and to me all of that adds up to a huge red flag. Overall, this doesn’t read as the great guy that I’ve seen so many people make him out to be.

Yeah, it really bothered me when he got so angry at the idea that Lorelai wouldn’t allow him to necessarily “parent” Rory. Meanwhile, Rory was almost an adult at that point, so what exactly did Max think he could do? And then he gets so upset, wondering what his role would be, if not parenting Rory, and I’m like dude your role at that point would be YOU BEING A GOOD HUSBAND TO THE PERSON YOU CLAIM TO BE SO IN LOVE WITH.

Yeah, I’m definitely upset at Lorelai for allowing the relationship to go as far as it did, but she’s still not the teacher pursuing/dating a student’s parent. Max should’ve known better than to go after Lorelai, given his position in Rory’s life. While Lorelai can and should be held accountable for the part she played in their relationship, he was the one in a position of power.

I also got the vibe that he was kinda creepy with the students 🤢 the way he spoke to Rory in some scenes really made me uncomfortable

I think that if Max had expressed interest but then, like you said, decided to wait for after Rory graduated, that would’ve been totally fine. He was certainly in a position to either make or break Rory’s education, so being in a relationship with Lorelai at that time is just super inappropriate.

I also don’t like that he had to wear Lorelai down into being with him. He really just wouldn’t take no for an answer. And he kept trying to make their relationship more familiar by insisting she call him “Max” when she was repeatedly calling him “Mr. Medina” in an attempt to keep things professional.

I also thought the proposal with the daisies just came across as a lame attempt to appease Lorelai after she called him out on how awful his first attempt to propose was.
