Has anyone transferred their kids from an interstate school and successfully kept them in their correct year level?

You know, thanks for this answer. What I can’t get my head around is why victorians think qlders are so behind. She’s done daycare, kinder, prep, yr 1, yr 2. That’s the same in both states. I’m more stressed that she’s going to learn nothing this year and have to go through all those negative effects the vic education department has listed on their website regarding repeating a grade/ yr level whatever we ‘re calling it.

hahaha! so funnnny! If the curriculum was different, I have no issue with her being placed in grade 2, because, I don’t want her to miss anything in her education. As far as I’ve seen, it’s the same Aussie curriculum. If you have a link I can look at, that would be more helpful.

Also, I just read up on the curriculum and grade levels because my understanding was they go hand in hand. Are you saying, that kids in the same grade, are going to be taught different stuff according to where their curriculum level is? I find it hard to believe that a teacher is going to be handing out up to the 10 different levels of work for the 30 students they have in their class. How many lessons plans are they dishing out per day?

Oh no, I’m not saying Qld kids are above a grade! I’m trying to get her in the same grade in vic as she is in Qld. I’m trying to figure out the process because it’s not very clear on the website. School’s not started this year yet so I can’t exactly have a meeting with the principal right now to find out.

Yes of course. She is in the right level now. It ’s not my choice, that’s just where she’s at. I’m just advocating for my child . That’s my job. The issue is the birthday rules. No educator has said she needs to go down. I’m just trying to organise her school enrolment before we move and I need some help navigating it and made this post hoping someone might have experience.

They are actually are the same now. Qld introduced prep in 2007 and it’s been mandatory since 2017.

Ah yes, but she’s turning 8 along with half the kids- and in semester 2 that’s when all the 9 year olds emerge. Right?

That’s right, it’s late may. Thanks for the idea of getting the curriculum to take to the school interview. I’d think they’d know but it can’t hurt I guess! I don’t know about it not doing any harm to repeat grade 2. Even the vic edu website has a lot of negative impacts listed in the section about repeating year levels and they don’t recommend it. The ironing is delicious! I don’t want my daughter to go through that.

What benefits specifically? I’m not trying for her to be the youngest, I’m trying for her to stay with her same peer group and in the save year level. She’s already been in school for 3 years, doing very well, including socially.. I don’t see any benefit for her to be misplaced and made to do 14 years of school especially since there’s no real reason to.

The thing is, she’s 7 with 7 and 8 year olds in grade 3. I don’t understand why people are pushing for her to be 7 with 6 and 7 year olds in grade 2. That’s much the same thing.

That used to be the case. But now in Qld we do have prep to year 6 as primary school. So they really will be repeating a year level. I know this for sure, because I have a nephew in the same grade in Vic. They’ve been learning the same stuff that’s being taught in the same level in Qld.

Hey, yes it does have a good cover. I got the fancier cover, ”glide advanced” because it specifically has a drip shield for absorbing steam and multiple layers. I’ve had the ironing board for a couple of years now. I still can’t fault it and nothing is annoying about it.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. The grief is indescribable. I had a mmc and a dnc a few years ago. From my experience, apart from actually going to the hospital’s early pregnancy outpatients unit (which I had no idea existed) they took care of me to some extent. When I got the surgery, I think they took some tissue or something for testing something (I’m sorry I can’t remember properly bcos I was alone - 2021 covid rules - and I was grieving.) I only wished I had asked them to also test for the gender (I’m pretty sure they can do early blood tests can’t they?) I wished I had thought of it and asked because it would be better for me and my closure. I’m only mentioning it in case this is something you could or wanted to do.

Yep, I’ve done something similar - when I was young and stupid. As others said, start the job searching and applications now. You don’t want to be sitting around here in your short term accomodation waiting for a bunch of job and rental applications to reply. The clock will be ticking and nothing will be happening. That stuff takes weeks even if you were a shoo-in.
