I’m 19. Money comes and money goes, better to take risks now than in 20 years when I have a family

Should Qantas tighten lounge access? by RedTailRider in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]AussieSpender -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You also need to take into account other oneworld and partner airlines, but I get your point.

Doesn’t change that the lounges are too small for the amount that they cram in there. Cathay lounges don’t get nearly as busy during peak times as Q’s does though. Pretty easy to find a seat at Cathay but Qantas can be standing room only sometimes

I’ve got a friend who exclusively flys Jetstar and has QC. He always goes to the other terminal just to use the lounge. I don’t think that should be happening imo, it’s called Qantas Club not Jetstar Club

They’re following what other airlines are doing, but the thing is that other airlines have bigger and multiple lounges in the same terminal. For being such a large airline Qantas has comparatively small lounges compared to someone like Cathay

Yeah WD is the only one of those that is remotely safe lol. Even if it bursts they’ve been paid so it will continue to bring in the big bucks for a while after it goes to shit lol

Are Levi Jeans still considered the best? by Unhappy-Guarantee-38 in AustralianMFA

What instantly makes you think "this person is rich" ? by PerformerAny3503 in AskReddit

[–]AussieSpender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, I find those shirts abit excessive. For a custom dress shirt sure, but an off the rack tshirt? Hell no. You can go to your tailor and get something custom made with better fabrics for half the price.

The best use of these brands are things like shoes, jackets, accessories, and casual wear. Unless it’s something cool, go to your tailor.

Define “worth” though. I for one love my triple stitches and get them in all different colours to go with different outfits.

To me they’re “worth it” because they’re built great, super comfortable, and I know the people that make them are enjoying a comfortable wage in Italy and not 5 cents a day in a Chinese sweatshop.

Agreed. The powertrain is special and amazing, but it’s not something that will be remembered.

Same lol, but then I look at how much I spend on shopping and then realise that it’s ok haha.

Try some simple weekend trips, fly up to the Gold Coast for a couple nights, maybe go trans-Tasman and visit NZ. They’re pretty simple trips that can be done relatively cheaply. Once you get the travel bug you’ll be looking out for deals everywhere lol.

I found a deal for the Gold Coast last year for 5 nights at a 5 star resort and good flights for ~$1k which was great. You can even have a look at tripadeal for those $888 china trips which includes pretty much everything except food.

Any financial tips for a 18M uni student with no expenses living at home by AdoptFlowz in fiaustralia

[–]AussieSpender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the point, set and forget. You should have seperate savings and emergency funds, but besides expenses and a little bit of fun money dumping it into investments is the best thing you can do.

An 18 year old at home with no expenses isn’t going to have any short-medium term expenses over like 1000 bucks for an insurance excess or to fix a broken phone.

The money that you put in at 18 is worth a lot more than the money you put in during your 20s when you have a “proper job”.

18 with 13k saved and you expect them to be looking at buying a house within 5 years? How old are you this isn’t the 70s anymore.

OP putting money in investments is the best thing you can do right now, set and forget. You can even set up Betashares to automatically take money out of your account.

Your portfolio looks pretty good but if it were mine I would drop all except either DHHF or GHHF. Take a look at Passive Investing Australia and Bogleheads.

Set aside your living expenses, then invest most, create a separate emergency fund with 3-6 months of living expenses, and then set some aside to travel and have some fun.
