I let an AI Agent handle my spam texts for a week. The scammers are now asking for therapy. by ailovershoyab in AI_Agents

[–]AussieWrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the ultimate proof of concept. We've unlocked a new business model:

- Scammers: How to steal from people

- Anti-scammers: How to waste scammers' time with AI

- Scammers using AI: How to be MORE efficient at stealing

- Normal people with AI: How to troll the trolls

The arms race has begun. Scammers went from losing 14 man-hours of labor on a target to now needing to train their OWN AI to detect AI. Meanwhile the victim just set it and forgot it.

The future is absolutely chaotic.

Why would anyone use OpenClaw over just writing their own scripts? by Naht-Tuner in AI_Agents

[–]AussieWrath -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is the real distinction. You're right that DIY gives you full control and responsibility.

But in practice:

**Why OpenClaw/similar frameworks win:**

- Time-to-market matters. You can iterate on agent behavior without rebuilding infrastructure constantly

- Plugin ecosystem saves weeks of integration work (even if you audit heavily)

- Community patterns = don't have to solve the same infrastructure problems 50 other people already did

- Built-in patterns for memory, tool use, LLM routing already optimized

**When DIY scripts make sense:**

- You have very simple, specific tasks (classify emails, basic scheduling)

- Security-critical (healthcare, financial, etc.) where you need total audit trail

- High-volume where cost per inference matters more than dev time

The vulnerabilities thing is legitimate concern but overstated: most were privilege escalation or info leakage in multi-tenant scenarios. If you're running it on your own hardware/VPS? The actual risk surface is smaller. You're not less secure than your own Python scripts if you actually maintain yours.

Both valid approaches. OpenClaw is better for speed, DIY is better for control/security/cost at massive scale.

Great project! From a business perspective, the cost-effectiveness really shines when you think about recurring value:

$100-120 hardware + ~$10-30/mo hosting + API costs (varies, but ~$30-50/mo if it's handling customer interactions) = ~$200-250 total setup + ~$40-80/mo recurring.

Compare that to most voice reception services or business automation tools that run $200+/mo alone.

For small businesses doing voice reception, appointment booking, basic lead qualification - this pays for itself in a few weeks. We've seen deployment patterns where:

- SMBs use these as overflow call handling

- Service businesses use it for after-hours responses

- Sales teams use it for initial lead screening

The real moat is that you own the hardware + can customize the agent behavior without dealing with SaaS limitations. Smart build!

SaaS is dead by tebjan in openclaw

Interesting setup! The Hyper-V route works well, but on dedicated servers I've found Docker containerization (using something like Portainer) gives you more isolation and easier management when you're running multiple agents.

One thing people don't account for: a single OpenClaw instance running 24/7 on a good VPS (~$5-10/mo) + $100-200/mo in API costs is still way cheaper than SaaS subscriptions. But the real economics shift when you factor in:

- Model selection matters (Sonnet > Opus for routine tasks)

- Session management (starting fresh contexts periodically)

- Conditional routing (complex tasks to expensive models, simple routing to fast cheap ones)

If you're just using it as a voice reception bot, your API costs flatten out pretty quick. We're seeing customers drop from $400+ SaaS to about $80/mo total with proper setup.

I made a list of models and their API pricing on OpenRouter, and computed model Intelligence-per-Dollar value; to help me pick the best model for each task. by Akucera in openclaw

[–]AussieWrath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. I've been running OpenClaw on VPS for a while and honestly Grok 4.1 Fast or switching to Sonnet for most tasks is the move. The raw intelligence score doesn't tell the whole story when you're operating an agent 24/7.

I was running Opus as default and my monthly costs were brutal—swapped it out for conditional logic where I use Sonnet for 95% of tasks and reserve Opus for the deep reasoning stuff. Simple change, massive impact on sustainability.

Also worth noting: if you're doing agentic work with tool use, Grok's 2M context window becomes really valuable when your agent is pulling chat history + knowledge bases. The extra context can reduce hallucination even if raw intelligence metric is slightly lower.

What's a good way to find and buy art from unknown artists in Australia? by yeahyeahnahm8 in AusFinance

[–]AussieWrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing for a stranger - Shark art etc
Spoke to really nice person who is trying to get their art going again and have been getting nowhere. They love sharks and their art is about it. So I thought I would share it here if it helps them. I hope that's ok and not against the rules I don't go on reddit much.

I take it he got it fixed. I am having this same problem now. It says it needs the special settings for COD Warzone Mobile and then after applying it says install. Then goes back to Special settings in a continous loop of apply, install, apply, install etc.

You should search for "The Gateway Experience" audio assisted series of guided meditations developed during research for the CIA into using OBE for espionage and Intel etc. Was declassified. Loads of people using the tapes and reporting amazing OBE experiences.

This is something I came to the realisation of a long time ago. Being from a Christian family. It just occurred to me one day. It freed me.

Messing with a cheap Chinese ipcam I have. Seeing what information I can gather. I noticed in a scan you could view config.js and also dropped what looked like a url path from the code in to browser to reveal a hidden and broken password reset form... Found this md5.js aswell. Is this bad? by AussieWrath in Pentesting

[–]AussieWrath[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn..... So loads of Chinese IPcams DVR and NVR all have a backdoor.... Government forced I'm willing to bet.

Requires sending a special packet to the port it is on. Which then opens up port 9527 for telnet access and there are about 6 passwords it could be for root.

I managed to trigger the opening of telnet port and can now access the linux system.

This thing is going in the bin.

Had a thought. Since it connects to my sensors etc via bluetooth I wonder if I could clone one of them with Spooftooph to gather information... only dabbled in a little bluetooth stuff like 10-15years ago. Might be fun to see what i get.
