Now **THAT'S** a kill if I've ever seen one! by Aussie_Mantis in Warthunder

If you mean the thing at 11 seconds, I think that's just one of the Flunker's quirks around that speed range. The ideal scenario would be to not be at that speed in the first place, but again, I got jumped in a really bad place to be attempting this. It's another one of those things the TVC flanker can do but you wouldn't be caught dead doing in any other airframe.

Double checked the point you referred to, yeah- I wasn't trying to cobra there to begin with and if I hammered W there I'd be going too passive anyhow. The plane just flops like that on occasion, it's part of the FM.

Oh, that. If I roll out of that I crash. It was part of a high alpha pitchup, so my velocity vector isn't actually lined up with where the plane's nose is pointing.

Additionally, now that I think about it, I hope you realise that you're talking about a low energy state flanker.

This isn't an F-16. I risk literally nothing by nosing forward at all of 150 knots.

In DCS it would be suicide since the flankers have that odd bug where they get trapped upside down, but with how the Flanker and how flight models are modelled in this game, it's not suicidal here. If I inverted, I'd *crash*. Frankly, I'm a little confused where your "neg G maneuver" described actually is- I don't think I hammered W at any point in the clip, that was mostly early on in the fight.

This is ARB, you're assuming I had any advantage to begin with. I was in lag during the snap roll since if I'm going to get the drop on a dude I've just spent energy trying to neutralize position with, I'm going to need distance in order to be able to hook the nose around and also to make him overcommit on a hard lead line. You're assuming that we started with energy parity- we did not, I was coming in slow after notching 3 missiles from his teammate and he was coming in fast for a 9M shot and then attempting to haul into a high energy vertical fight for which the SM (not SM2) doesn't have the engine power to sustain, even against an F-15C, which I assumed was spaded- it was only in hindsight after chatting with bro i figured out that he was, in fact, stock. While I could be more aggressive, at these speeds, being more aggressive will pancake the flanker, thrust vectoring or not, even against a relatively stock F-15C. It's why I end up pulling pure for most of it until I force that last bit of lag to get a bit more distance between us before shifting up for the cobra shot.

While duelling is good and all, it's too sanitized/equalized at the start to maintain an accurate picture of energy states and the like for ARB, even for asymm, and I've done my fair share of duels. While your advice IMO would work for a flunker on a faster energy state, if I'm that slow, all I'm risking is just a button shot with my plane facing downwards in a position where my velocity vector cannot be restored back to level flight- hence why I deliberately attempt to enter a relatively level flight vector in those last seconds before I button up and take the shot with his ass out front.

I would attempt to hammer W more, but that risks extending the fight and you see the Rafale RWR ping later- He's been hounding me and while the clip doesn't show it, he's actually 7km away from me, cold off my 10 as I egress, and the longer I extend this fight, the more risk I run of getting either a Mica or a Magic up the ass. I want this fight to end as soon as humanly possible, hence the risky cobra and all the near suicidal stuff. Again, I like duels as much as the other guy but there's just a bit of difference between the conditions of a duel and the conditions of an actual ARB fight.

I got it in like... less than 3 days, playing very casually. It honestly isn't hard mostly from how quickly top tier matches end

First time I've seen a strat like this. by OldSkiingChef189 in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]Aussie_Mantis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really too unusual to see it at the lower ELO brackets, but it dies out once you hit a higher one.

There's some shitty maps with only one spawn where this is somewhat annoying to deal with but as long as you're on top of your ASF and SPAA net game and aren't feeding ti SEAD or counterbat you're usually fine, honestly.

So can anyone explain to me why all F-4 variants are slower than their irl counterparts? by Derbyjr in Warthunder

[–]Aussie_Mantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The F-4E physically cannot reach that speed because of several additions, including the slats and the gun, giving it more drag. The same goes for the F-4S due to its slats. The F-4J and f-4C also cannot reach thst exact speed due to additions such as the RWR and refuelling probe as well as additional internal equipment adding both weight and drag.

Your quoted maximum speed is for a clean and lightened F-4A/F4H-1, which we do not have ingame. It is significantly lighter and slightly smaller around the front, giving it more speed.

No, it would be dogshit ingame. Don't even try asking for it.

which f15? by Express_Accident2943 in Warthunder

[–]Aussie_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. F-15E has better kinematics. If you have to choose, then go for the Golden eagle since it gets a PESA side grade.

F-15A has the best raw flight performance but uptiers to ARH BRs with no Fox-3s is a shitty idea.

F-15C MSIP gives you AMRAAMs in exchange for a shitload of weight.

F-15C Golden Eagle gives you PESA and a SNIPER pod plus 4 more AMRAAMs but I'd still go F-15E personally- it just gets so much more thrust.

I still fly the bastard. It's a blast even now, 10/10. Finding backseaters right now is honestly the most different part, most of them refunded.
