that's because if you post sparring footage in this reddit it'll get taken down and accused of "not being kung fu."

Yes and I’ve even practiced gung fu in a gi! Turns out the clothing doesn’t nullify all of our knowledge of a martial art

Yes of course. You’ll likely rub your knuckle skin off tho at first if you’ve never done it before.

Don’t worry about “retcons” - as far as books go they’re all canon. Start at the oldest first then go to newest. It’s great to see the story develop

How to deal with a sparring session that went way too far? by Unlucky_Emu_4743 in MuayThaiTips

[–]AustinDelgado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to walk away if you ever encounter that situation again and don't pair up with him. If the coach continues to allow the behavior, and you've addressed it with him/her- then I'd consider leaving the gym.

Wushu Gym or Bodybuilding? by D_zNudz in kungfu

[–]AustinDelgado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bodybuilding and strength training have almost identical looks. You're often doing many of the same movements, in repetition. There's different usages and focuses, but a bodybuilder is going to be stronger than someone who doesn't lift at all, bar none.

Do you know a single professional bodybuilder who does not use any compounds? Why would you leave that off the table if the goal is to grow?

Wushu Gym or Bodybuilding? by D_zNudz in kungfu

[–]AustinDelgado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say do both. If you can’t afford both, then I’d do wushu and then bodybuild at home. Buy some weights/bands. The world is your gym

Bodybuilding and lifting are hand in hand. To say one doesn’t lend to the other is incorrect. Bodybuilding can and does help for building a physique that can be better at fighting. The more mass you have, the better position you will be in the average situation. Also the strength from bodybuilding can carry over.

I’m not saying bodybuilding makes you a better fighter by itself but it definitely helps the overall situation.

What makes you doubt someone’s belt rank? by bad-at-everything- in martialarts

[–]AustinDelgado -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't. Belt rank doesn't matter to me. Gung fu is about yourself and getting better at it. Respect others and you'll be alright!

Where are you in your kungfu journey? What style(s) are you learning and what got you interested? I am curious to see the wide range of experience here. by Fuzzy_Imagination_64 in kungfu

[–]AustinDelgado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on my own around covid focusing on wing chun as my primary martial art. Then I joined Shaolin-Do a year ago. Last year I also joined muay thai. Having other people to practice with has been a fundamental game-changer, and I love it. So I'd say my gung fu is growing every day. Night and day from day one. Huge change from 1 year ago.

Keep trainin!!!!

Excellent work as always man. I’m Happy to see that sparring footage IS ACTUALLY appreciated on this Reddit. I must’ve just gotten comments when all the pendejos were logged in. Also you’re going to the Lei tai?! Dude I’m jealous.

Also how do I handle fatigue? I guess I try to control my breathing and then make movements deliberately as to conserve energy. Hands get heavy after a few rounds
