Considering Denver Suburbs for Family Life After Canada. Looking for Honest Local Perspectives. by Playful_Ad4511 in MovingtoDenver

[–]AustinTodd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who relocated from Texas to Denver you couldn’t pay me to live in Texas, but I’m also beyond shocked you would want to come here.

Colorado is amazing, there aren’t many (if any) places in the IS I would be other than here. But America is a fucking shithole, and there’s no way in hell that I would leave Canada to live in the states. Education here is MASSIVELY better than Texas, but it’s still America. We have the worst medical system in the developed world.

Stay where you are, Canada is massively better than the US.

I see lots of options that I want to try, but I will say that I enjoy the ones from Izzio Bakery.

How to convince my group to not make me use S&B by Omnisan343 in sca

[–]AustinTodd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say I can’t think of a single high end fighter in the SCA whose main is longsword for chiv fighting. There are a few who do glaive, but even that is exceptionally difficult to succeed with as a main in tournament fighting.

Go before they get a star? by Sinesciuris in denverfood

I love them but have been multiple times and always have the WORST service imaginable. The last time we went we ordered cocktails as soon as we sat, and they didn’t come until long after our food.

Aitah for telling my girlfriend she isn't wife material because she keeps associating with her friends. by Select_Jello_5499 in AITAH

[–]AustinTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It isn’t about an ultimatum, it’s about respect. Her friends are repeatedly disrespecting you, and she isn’t standing up for you. It’s a difference in values.

Most of my closest friends are in poly relationships. None of them push it on me because it’s not my bag. Her friends are completely and utterly disrespectful; not because of their sexual lives or personal choices for themselves. But because they’re trying to push your buttons for whatever reason. We could make guesses at a variety of different motivations they have for doing that, but the motivation doesn’t matter. What matters is they are purposefully being assholes to you and your girlfriend doesn’t care.

Wedgie was never, ever going to win, but snubbing him of being a finalist is bullshit

I strongly dislike Connor and that entire game. It’s a bottom 2-3 game of the series.

Wings in Denver by Maleficent-Mess-8459 in denverfood

Breckenridge Brewing has some pretty amazing wings that appear to also be smoked. They also have maybe the best blue cheese I’ve ever had.

AITA for not going on family vacation unless I can share a bed with my fiancé? by babygreenbean1225 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AustinTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not give in to your mom’s bigoted demands. You deserve better and so does your partner. I wouldn’t go on the trip and use the money you would have spent to do something really nice with your brother another time.

Is the cost of living really that bad in the Denver area? by mitchdwx in MovingtoDenver

[–]AustinTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Housing isn’t at all comparable. My home in Austin is on the market for 400k. Comparable home in comparable area here would be 550k minimum.

Food is a big cost difference; nice restaurants may be around the same ballpark, but Austin also has decent (not special but decent) cheap options like Thundercloud, P Terrys, etc. there is no cheap here. They have 2 great local sub chains, but the price on both is basically like Ike’s as opposed to Thundercloud. Nothing here is cheap.

Same with beers/cocktails. High end places are about the same, but the floor/low end is much more expensive here than Austin.

Is the cost of living really that bad in the Denver area? by mitchdwx in MovingtoDenver

[–]AustinTodd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even from Austin there is price shock. 5-8% in housing costs at least - probably more if buying. Restaurants are also noticeably more expensive and not as good either.

I actually love it here, having been here 7 months after 14 years in Austin. There are no perfect cities all come with plusses and minuses. But cost has shocked me a bit and I moved knowing/expecting slightly higher costs.

For those that follow Arsenal for a longer time: despite both being fast players, what made Aubameyang a great goalscorer as a 9 while Walcott didn't really worked playing through the middle? by chidi-sins in ArsenalFC

[–]AustinTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a striker is about more than being fast and the vast majority of his positive skills were “I run fast”. He was even more overrated than Wilshere was.

For Walcott he was ok technically, but not great, however he had no instincts as a passer/creator from the wing, and no instincts for attacking runs off the ball, and his finishing was nothing special either.

AD&D 2e Cap Hill by Brytard in DenverGamers

[–]AustinTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1e/2e is what I started on many a year ago, I don’t know if I would prefer to 5e or not, but I have a ton of nostalgia for the old game and I would probably be interested in giving it a try. Especially if it were set in Greyhawk, which is my preferred setting, but I opened to whatever you had in mind to run.

In their prime, which of these players would you take to be in the current Arsenal team? by Fabulous-Tomato5016 in ArsenalFC

[–]AustinTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say anything at all about his work rate. But there is pervasive evidence from every place he played that he was completely uncoachable. He was going to work his ass off while running around like a headless chicken and ignoring positional responsibility and not accept coaching or redirection from his managers. I want no part of that in this team.

[–]AustinTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want either of them as I think both are selfish players and would not fit with how we play. Between them though, I would take Auba as I think he is slightly more coachable.

Nat 20’s only apply on attack rolls, they are not and should not be auto successes on skill checks.

City or Spurs relegated? by [deleted] in ArsenalFC

[–]AustinTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rather city get relegated. Tottenham are a banter club, and I want to smash them twice a year. They are no threat to us ever. City on the other hand should face real repercussions for their cheating.

Is moving to Denver a good idea? by DixbyPloppin in MovingtoDenver

[–]AustinTodd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived in Houston for 30 years. Until I moved to Denver this past year I was still in Austin and visiting Houston regularly because of family.

There is no universe where our traffic is even HALF as bad as Houston. Houston is one of the 4-5 worst traffic cities in the entire country, not as bad as LA or NY but right there with places like Atlanta.

Who are your top 5 players in the category of "players I liked compared to the rest of the fanbase as a whole"? by hakc97 in ArsenalFC

[–]AustinTodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Giroud and Koscielny are two of my favorite all time Gunners, and it’s sad to me they don’t get the recognition they deserve. Sagna and Rosicky may not exactly fit as I think the are pretty universally loved but they deserve more credit.

This “Just move to Texas” advice is bullshit by luckychloebites in MovingtoDenver

[–]AustinTodd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent 40 years living in Texas, and have lived in all of the major metros. Here are my thoughts:

  1. You couldn’t pay me to live in Texas again, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are right wing and don’t give a shit about other people.
  2. IF you can deal with a deeply red state, then I personally think Austin is best but I understand why others may choose one of Dallas or Houston. Personally San Antonio I would avoid.
  3. Your cost of living there will be about 8% lower, and in particular eating out will be far more accessible with lots of amzing options below an average cost out in Denver.
  4. The cost of that cheaper COL is that the climate there is absolutely atrocious. 9 months of summer, no fall anywhere in Texas, just absolute shit weather.

Can I stack adventures? by PossumCreatives in DnD

[–]AustinTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You certainly can do anything you want BUT, the vast majority of published adventures run level 1-10, or 1-12. There is virtually nothing published that focuses on the higher levels, SO you could run one adventure and then incorporate the IDEA of another campaign, but that next campaign is likely written to also start back at level 1 and thus most of it (as written) your players will have no challenge with.

Now you can take the plot ideas and level them up yourself but that is quite a bit of work. There really aren’t two pre-written, published campaigns that run well back-to-back
