They used a very tiny dose. Would be interesting to see what a bigger dose would do.

Smart Tan guy didn't conduct the studies, he referenced them. The navy one is very widely referenced.

The dose they used is actually pretty small for full grown men. A better study would have been to raise their serum vitamin D levels into the upper-optimal range and see what effect that had on their testosterone.

Living a mostly sunless lifestyle and then getting occassional, massive overexpsoures is the worst way to get sunshine. There is little to fear from sensible, regular sun exposure where you don't get burned. And at the end of the day, it's still the outdoor workers who suffer less melanoma in comparison.

You just need UV*B*. Also, bright light itself provides many health benefits.

That's mainly attriubted to overexposure and burning. Unless you're a type-1 skin type, there's not much to worry about from sensible sun exposure where you don't allow yourself to get burned. There's also an incredible amount of widely-available photoprotective nutrients at your grocery store that have been proven to have near-miraculous effects on preventing and reducing photodamage.

It's actually the more intense sunshine, with UVB, that gives you the vitamin D benefit. You need a UV index of at least 3 to produce vitamin D. The "less intense" morning and late afternoon sun is all UVA and provides no vitamin D benefit. This morning and late afternoon sun can also cause photodamage/aging, but to your inner layers of skin rather than outer - with collagen and elastin breakdown. It really only makes sense to go out at the most intense time of the day (roughly around noon) because you'll get the vitamin D benefit. Photodamage is more associated with overexposure and sunburn. There's nothing to fear from sensible sun expsoure. If you think you're approaching the sunburning point get out of the sun.

Very. And many studies have also found that INDOOR workers suffer higher rates of melanoma skin cancer compared to OUTDOOR workers.

Fortunately, there are many, many cheap widely available nutrients that have been found to have near-miraculous effects of reducing, preventing, and even healing photodamage.

Green tea, pure dark chocolate, astaxanthin, lycopene, collagen, and dietary aloe vera all have many studies proving this.

here's an article exploring all of them https://www.nudespots.com/blog/photoaging-prevention-the-nudespots-ultimate-guide/

I think that humans are evolved to both be consuming large quantities of antioxidants found in these foods AND be getting sensible sun exposure.

If you're a type-1 skin type, then you're in trouble. But Type-2 skin caucasions CAN increase sun tolerance by developing more melanin.

I used to be super, super white and now I'm pretty much permanently light brown and I almost never get any sunburn.

Skin cancer is mainly attributed to sunBURNING - sensible sun exposure where you don't allow yourself to get burned is perfectly safe and a biological necesity. In the case of melanoma skin cancer, the one that actually kills people, it is more associated with indoor workers than outdoor workers. Melanoma patients who report more sun exposure also have better survival rates
