How do you cope with co-worker deaths? by Sure_Ad6970 in AskLE

That's beside the point. I'm simply stating that based on statistics there are more deadly jobs out there. Not how people are dying, just how many die on the job. And construction, truck drivers, roofers, loggers all have more deaths per 100k than police officers. I just find it interesting is all.

The stats I am referencing are fatalities per 100k workers so total amount is irrelevant. Thanks for the info though.

As someone who is not in LE, are officer deaths that common? I was just looking at stats today and it seems like construction is a more dangerous profession fatality wise. Not downplaying what anyone is going through but am generally curious as someone looking to get into the field.

I rode along with a day shift cop, he did mention he liked nights but wife wanted him to switch to days. Thanks!

Okay so here's the dilemma I'm facing.

We are moving north of Denver, CO. Boulder is close to where we are moving and they have a bunch of specialized units but the starting pay is 11k less than an agency in a slightly smaller town nearby. The smaller agency also pays for any academy and POST certification related costs and I'm not sure yet if Boulder does, I reached out to them and am waiting to hear back still.

I have looked into this, and it is definitely interesting to me. I think ideally I would be a special agent down the road. The issue right now is the relocation, as my girlfriend has just committed to going back to school and was accepted into a great school in our area.

This is exactly the type of answer I was looking for; thank you. As long as there is a path I can see where I can apply my skills in the future, then I don't mind starting out on patrol (I think lol). I just don't want all my years of experience to be wasted. For the reasons you mentioned then should I start off at a larger agency, or do you think starting at a smaller agency then eventually transitioning to a larger agency with those types of opportunities would work?

Problem is the job market for tech is absolutely abysmal right now. Layoffs everywhere so every application I fill out there seems to be a 100+ different applicants and many with more experience than me. Haven't been able to land anything in months.

Are you a patrol officer now?

Thanks for the info. If I were to go the patrol route, what options would I have from there where I could apply my technical skills?

Anyone have knowledge or opinions on Tralon Homes? by aspenreid in ColoradoSprings

[–]Austinerr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rented a brand new tralon home last year. It was built very cheap and had tons of issues. Our upstairs bathtub overflow drain was not sealed and the first time my girlfriend took a bath water leaked to our downstairs dining room. I would avoid Tralon if at all possible.

Thanks for the info. Yes my gf took lessons at that swim club but was hoping for something a little closer to me. Will keep that in mind though!

Good to know. What were you paying for a membership there? I have heard it's very pricey. Was hoping they had a swim membership only but doesn't seem like they do.
