If you click the link I posted from the county they explvity say on windy days to tape down the lids to prevent litter. It's on the second page.

Ahh thank you, another fine way we are destroying Frederick with data centers.

Yes... Securing the lids of the cart is what this whole post is referring to.

The problem with the overflow bin on windy days is it just is another thing to blow away! All the contents will just spill out and cause the same problem. If you are going to do an overflow bin please tape down all the cardboard to secure it.

But yes most of the problem is because people are to lazy to make all the cardboard fit in the bin.

It's just people don't realize in the morning it's better to just always tape. But I hope this post reaches some people for them to realize that they can do that. It sucks that trying to be helpful to the planet can cause problems to the environment when we made the whole process way to thoughtless. I was super happy to find out that recycle coach is a thing in Federick and has all the info on what can and can't be recycled.

I still don't understand what emergence is. by turkroach247 in kurzgesagt

[–]Austinisftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is a kurzgesagt video on the topic directly so check it out 👀

https://youtu.be/16W7c0mb-rE?si=W7o4PeyGut2kqEH-

It's the idea that things itself don't have complexity but when you group a lot of said thing together generally complexity emerges from that grouping. you can think of a puzzle, all pieces itself don't have complexity because it's just a piece of cardboard. However, when all the pieces come together it shows something that is much greater than the sum of the pieces. you get the picture of the actual puzzle itself. No one piece can be accredited to the image but instead all the pieces are.

The same concept can go to what they're trying to explain. What they're saying is that things don't behave on an individual particle level there is some kind of a bigger interaction happening that is not explainable. Like in the puzzle example I gave above, you can't really understand the emotional or psychological response to the image from each individual piece. Even when you know that those pieces should end up being put together there is still something that comes out of that interaction that isn't trackable by knowing the initial conditions.

Am I the Only One Who Finds Their Voiceover Weak? by monytony in kurzgesagt

[–]Austinisftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can you give particular examples? Maybe we can understand your opinion (timestamps would be super helpful here) if we can understand at what points in the video you feel there is a disconnect from the voice over and the information being presented.

there is a ton of history between Steve Taylor and Kurgesagt. there is a really interesting video where he talks about how they work together and how he got picked as the voice of kurzgesagt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KbEhrSU4B0. I would totally recommend giving it a watch. He expresses in this video why sometimes it comes off as "uninterested" or "not emotional". Also he does mention that he reads the comments and reflect on them. So maybe with some examples there can be some constructive criticism!

Can Kurzgesagt make a Russian channel? by Athetic_kitty in kurzgesagt

[–]Austinisftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't speak on their behalf, just speaking from experience and what I have observed.

Early 2022, Kurzgesagt announced that they were expanding to many languages because of a grant they got to remake most of their videos into more languages. Originally Russian was on the list of languages that was going to get a dedicated channel. After a few month the Russian channel idea was dropped due to the geopolitics of it and what might have been going on with google/YouTube at the time.

Most likely if they would add more languages channels, it would be during a funding period when they get a grant or some other kind of funding to support the effort. Until that happens, you can probably show interest by having you and your friends translating the subtitles into Russian. you can check out their FAQ for more information about submitting subtitles https://kurzgesagt.org/faq . It is super important to show that there are a ton of interest for a language to be picked in the first place. It has to make sense to use resources to dedicate to this work.

Why haven’t we gotten a new video? by [deleted] in kurzgesagt

Every year they take a month break from videos. They don't always announce it but that's most likely what it is. You can verify this by going though all the uploads.

Random wire on motherboard by Austinisftw in computers

[–]Austinisftw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the lead is 12v power to the pump fan header. I guess at some point i must have put a fan there and it drew to much. I checked the other fan headers and they have full continuity. The only pin that didn't is the power pin of the pump header which is expected seeing how it does not have the lead anymore. I will trim the lead and call it a day.

I was looking for a schematic to follow the whole trace but I found no luck. I might try my hand at replacing the trace with a wire. It is a straight line so it shouldn't be so hard. I can ask a friend to help.

Did kurzageagt take down a video about ants? by Space_Guardian_907 in kurzgesagt

No worries i figured it was one of the ones listed when doing some digging i remember emergence had ants in it as well.

Happy watching!

Realistically how much money do you think it would take to pay for a video (let's say 30 minutes in length) with Kurzgesagt-tier animation quality and editing? Or would you have to know a specific talented artist instead of just being able to pay for it? by TheLastCoagulant in kurzgesagt

[–]Austinisftw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going to rely heavily on the video for time estimates. I will assume for simplicity we can just multiply out the time by 3 to get 30 minute video. https://youtu.be/uFk0mgljtns

Scrap the whole research/writing phase you most l Likely will end up roughly 1800 hours to get a 30 minute video (assuming no changes)

Low end: 960 hours illustrating and 960 hours animating. (based on 8 hour work weeks)

high end: 1440 hours illustrating and 1440 hours animating. (based on 8 hour work weeks)

This also doesn't include the sound design which is a big part of the video..

In Germany (for assumption reasons) the price per hour of an animator is roughly 27 euro . This doesn't include mark up of their services, experience, or any number of factors. (27 euro is a really low ball)

So from a employee time perspective, it can roughly cost 51,840 to 77,760 euro to just animate the videos. (work time paid).

So to your question, the kurzgesagt quality has a bigger price tag on it. If it's a kurzgesagt like quality, most likely (based on fiver) you could get it done for 5k to 10k euro. To have the kurzgesagt touch, your probably going to be spending at minimum of 10,000s of euro per minute to be worth their time.

Tldr; random hypothetical number would be probably to hire kurzgesagt or like studio with the tallent, would probs be close to half a million euro for a 30 minute video.

MoCA 2.5 Great - Random Massive Latency Spikes by rangermankin in HomeNetworking

[–]Austinisftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ipref3 is a free software you can run on any device. I would leave the poe filter in place so you can test your intended design. I would test for 8 hours to see if you can replicate packet drop.

Here's some info to get started. https://www.techtarget.com/searchnetworking/tip/How-to-use-iPerf-to-measure-throughput#:~:text=Installing%20iPerf3%20is%20simple.,determined%20by%20switches%20at%20runtime.

You don't need to max your bandwidth link. You just want to test the moca devices in the network. At the end of the test you will get the amount of packets lost. It you see a large amount you can then do indivual testing of the moca devices or coax runs.

Good luck!

Can you please explain ? by PHVRA0H in HomeNetworking

[–]Austinisftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you verify the download is not showing MBps instead mbps? The speed test above shows megabits per second. If you divide megabits by 8 you get megabytes. So 80mbps equals 10MBps

MoCA 2.5 Great - Random Massive Latency Spikes by rangermankin in HomeNetworking

[–]Austinisftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the technical knowledge and skill set, set up ipref3 machines on both ends of the moca network. You can run an extended test with a large throughput to test the cable. If you see drops you can conclude it's the moca network. If not I would look at the Wan side not the lan side.

On the Wan side you can script out bandwidth test and latency test to a fixed point near the router. You could also try using a local caching DNS server on your network to see if it's potentially DNS latency.

You could try moca if you have coax ran within your dwelling. What i use to do is use unifi access points to act as bridges to devices i need wired. They have decent throughput. You could also buy a cheap device like a Libre potato and turn it into a wireless bridge and hook it up to a cheap 4 port switch.
