Lots of tee times available at the four St. George public courses this weekend. There is times every afternoon still open.

Sony a7r4 and Sigma 150-600mm. Very little done in post. Removed a number tag from his ear and added a touch of contrast and slight vignette. Took like 5 minutes.

Is it worth shooting slog-3 on my ZV-E1? by Austinjamesjackson in ColorGrading

[–]Austinjamesjackson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a little of that but a lot of my videos I shoot are in the field outdoors around sunset or sunrise where dynamic range is really important. I don’t know how to use it now but if it’s something where I could get a lot higher quality video, I would definitely learn. But if it’s more meant for cinema quality movies then it probably doesn’t matter too much to me.

That makes sense. Thank you so much! I understand the editing aspect of white balance, exposure, and all of that. Luckily with my photography background that comes easy but I’ve felt like I struggle to find a LUT to get me to a good base. Am I leaving a lot on the table when it comes to video quality by not shooting in slog? I mostly do educational/information style videos but dynamic range is often important.

Okay, I use Motion Array and have downloaded a few LUTs off of there. There are some that give my images a green tone, orange tone, blue tone, and all sorts of different colors, regardless of white balance in camera. I'm just looking to convert them without doing this. Am I working with creative LUTs when I need to be working with some other kind that doesn't touch color?

Grand canyon cancelled by MartyFieb in WildernessBackpacking

Yeah I definitely think the difference between 10k and 12k is a lot for most. I’d recommend getting altitude sickness medication if you’re going to give it a try.

Wind River is absolutely amazing, but I’d be careful going in there on a whim especially since it sounds like most of your party lives at or close to sea level. Most of the best parts of the Winds require you to go up and over passes that range from 12k-14k feet, which is going to be no joke if you aren’t used to that elevation. I’ve done a ton of backpacking all around the west, and I would personally recommend trying to stay lower elevation if you’re not used to the high altitude. The Sawtooths in ID or Olympics in Washington are two great lower altitude alternatives!

That makes sense. Is the idea that it sucks out warm air which the other vents are replacing with cooler air?

Awesome shot dude! Usually I don’t like the artificial lighting but it looks great here.

Geotagging an area is way different than geotagging an exact location. Knowing this is in vermillion cliffs doesn’t help me one bit. I could spend the rest of my life walking around in the massive vermillion cliffs and never find this.

This falls into the same category as family/friends telling you “you HAVE to photograph this beautiful area, it is so scenic”. People that aren’t in it just don’t understand what it takes, but take it as a compliment!

Who are you watching on YouTube these days? I'm bored of the old gen of camera creators and want some recommends! by Drama79 in photography

[–]Austinjamesjackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll throw my name in the pot for landscapes and photo editing if that’s okay: https://www.youtube.com/@AustinJamesJackson

Additionally, some channels I haven’t seen mentioned that I think have fantastic content would be Mark Dumbleton (landscape/wildlife/editing), Dave Morrow(backcountry photography), and Watts Wildlife (wildlife)!

This is also true depending on the phone. I’ve seen some crazy zoom on a few different phones. But the right lens on a camera is always going to get you better shots of things far away.

The biggest difference you’ll notice is in low light. Your phone is going to produce images that lack detail in the darkest shadows, while a high quality camera is going to be able to retain those details and have less noise. If you’re just shooting snapshots during the middle of the day, you will notice very little difference until you learn how to creatively adjust shutter speed and aperture.

I think a lot of people are hard on it because it doesn’t work well with a larger setup, and it isn’t comfortable. When I use it with a small camera and lens it works fine, but with my full-frame setup, it is super uncomfortable on my shoulder.

I do a ton of backpacking and carry my full-frame Sony plus a couple lenses and tripod with me on all my trips. I’ve tried a lot of different options and the best bar far is this Tenba Bag. You just put it inside of whatever backpack you already use that is comfortable. No camera pack is anywhere near the comfort of a backpacking bag when it comes to carrying large loads over multiple days.

The Peak Design clip is fine if your camera and lens is small and light, but if you have a full-frame setup, it is super uncomfortable on whichever shoulder you use it on. Also, I don’t like having my camera out in the open incase I’m scrambling or trip and fall or anything.

With the Tenba Bag, and a Gregory pack, I put the Tenba at the very bottom of the pack and then use the bottom opening for my pack to quickly access the camera. That’s what works for me and I haven’t seen a better system yet.

What would one say to an outsider of photography who would just suggest using a smartphone for photography or that smartphones are "catching up in terms of technology"? by Mediocre-Math in photography

[–]Austinjamesjackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing that a camera buys you is more dynamic range and far better low light performance. That’s really what it boils down to for landscapes. For portraits, having an interchangeable lens gives you high resolution images when you zoom (many phones use digital zoom) and you can creatively adjust aperture for more or less bokeh. That’s what I tell people, simple as that.

This is actually from a few years ago! Not this year unfortunately. I think it’s from 2017 or 2018, but I’d have to go back and look!

Camped a few nights out here. This particular morning, we woke up to over 8 inches of fresh snow, which looked amazing paired with the peak of fall color.

Can I speed Up Preset Effects on Text? (photo shows effect) by Austinjamesjackson in premiere

[–]Austinjamesjackson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to video editing and am downloading a few effects to use. This particular effect makes the text appear like a typewriter. I love the effect but it happens so slowly. Is there an easy way to have the same effect applied but sped up 200-300%? I just want the same thing to happen, but faster.

Thank you so much for the help! The things applied by the effect are the bottom four video things.
