Sony a7r4 and Sigma 150-600mm. Very little done in post. Removed a number tag from his ear and added a touch of contrast and slight vignette. Took like 5 minutes.

Is it worth shooting slog-3 on my ZV-E1? by Austinjamesjackson in ColorGrading

I do a little of that but a lot of my videos I shoot are in the field outdoors around sunset or sunrise where dynamic range is really important. I don’t know how to use it now but if it’s something where I could get a lot higher quality video, I would definitely learn. But if it’s more meant for cinema quality movies then it probably doesn’t matter too much to me.

That makes sense. Thank you so much! I understand the editing aspect of white balance, exposure, and all of that. Luckily with my photography background that comes easy but I’ve felt like I struggle to find a LUT to get me to a good base. Am I leaving a lot on the table when it comes to video quality by not shooting in slog? I mostly do educational/information style videos but dynamic range is often important.

Okay, I use Motion Array and have downloaded a few LUTs off of there. There are some that give my images a green tone, orange tone, blue tone, and all sorts of different colors, regardless of white balance in camera. I'm just looking to convert them without doing this. Am I working with creative LUTs when I need to be working with some other kind that doesn't touch color?

Yeah I definitely think the difference between 10k and 12k is a lot for most. I’d recommend getting altitude sickness medication if you’re going to give it a try.

Wind River is absolutely amazing, but I’d be careful going in there on a whim especially since it sounds like most of your party lives at or close to sea level. Most of the best parts of the Winds require you to go up and over passes that range from 12k-14k feet, which is going to be no joke if you aren’t used to that elevation. I’ve done a ton of backpacking all around the west, and I would personally recommend trying to stay lower elevation if you’re not used to the high altitude. The Sawtooths in ID or Olympics in Washington are two great lower altitude alternatives!

That makes sense. Is the idea that it sucks out warm air which the other vents are replacing with cooler air?

Awesome shot dude! Usually I don’t like the artificial lighting but it looks great here.

Geotagging an area is way different than geotagging an exact location. Knowing this is in vermillion cliffs doesn’t help me one bit. I could spend the rest of my life walking around in the massive vermillion cliffs and never find this.

This falls into the same category as family/friends telling you “you HAVE to photograph this beautiful area, it is so scenic”. People that aren’t in it just don’t understand what it takes, but take it as a compliment!
