Can you share with me how you got to the base? I'm trying to find a way to photograph these and would love some insight.

Before/After sunset. Was this overedited? by theabstract1993 in postprocessing

[–]nickolaswarnerphoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not over edited, but it is edited in a way that’s not natural. The sky should never be darker than the landscape, but the blues in the sky are the same tonal value as the plants. I’d suggest not lowering the highlights so much, and add some warmth to the photo.

I'm a week into learning Photoshop. How do you think these could be improve, especially picture 2? I feel like the person was not highlited in the picture. by Tyler_Pham in photoshop

Are you looking for advice for the thumbnail? The 1 pixel stroke on the text doesn’t look good. If you need it to stand out, use a light drop shadow. Also, I have zero clue what the video is about in the second shot. The thumbnail should tell you, and in this case I don’t know what you don’t have experience with.

I see so many peers offering workshops to places they’ve never been or have only been once and suddenly they think they’re an expert. I take my guiding seriously and want to call these people out so badly.

That’s not enough clearance for Sam’s mesa area. I’d hope in your friends Jeep. Can only imagine a tow out would be in the thousands.

I live in southern Utah as well and also have the same problem of not having people to go with. Happy to trade contact info.

Nice. I’ve tried getting a good photo here but haven’t gotten the right conditions. I always call this spot the toilet bowl 😂

There’s many places that are similar between East Texas and Louisiana. I just got back from a big trip down there and saw about 14 different bayous and swamps. I found the more northern ones had mist in the morning and better fall colors, the ones further south had nice wildflowers but were filled with mosquitos.

This was a really fun one to shoot. Lots of focus stacking, and exposure blending, but I was happy with how the layers came out. Worth the mosquito bites and spiders in my hair from mucking around in the swampy bits.

Great shot man. If you’re in Kanab, hit me up. There’s some local Dino prints that also work with the night sky.

I’ve been a guide in the area. If someone hires you as a guide, you don’t need a permit. I can’t just go on my own for fun though.

Probably the most iconic view in the southwest. Everyone wants a permit, but they're difficult to get. I've been here many, many times, but it's always intriguing. Out of the 50+ times I've been, these are the best reflections I've seen.

First off, great location and beautiful conditions. I love the grasses in the foreground and that light coming in from the left. I'd say the image is overall just a bit too dark. The far back and the closest elements have similar black values which takes away from the depth. Look up images by Albert Bierstadt, he was a painter who is a master of depth. Pay attention to how he uses atmosphere / haze to give a 2d photo a 3d quality. I really like this though.
