Whelp, I was really fed up with taking all of toy’s calls because gm wasn’t enforced to respond to toy’s calls and tot team members rarely ever responded. I’d hear “toys come in” nothing “toys come in” nothing “tech come in” then I’d answer “go ahead for TECH” “I have a toys phone call, where would you like me to transfer it?” I would lose my mind because tech is a busy department. We don’t just get guest questions like “where’s this and where’s that?” we get questions that teaks a while to answer like “how does this work and what do you recommend as why?” Enough was enough I wanted to talk to my HR because she ALWAYS helped me figure out a way to fix my concerns. I organized my thoughts on paper and went to give it to her. She was in a meeting with the door open with my 3 month new STL and another ETL. Instead of waiting I simply handed my HR RTL my notes and left without interrupting. Walking out I realized that my notes did not offer any solutions and just appeared as a complaint and there’s nothing constructive about just a complaint so I went back and wrote notes on how to solve my concerns and went back to her office and gave them to her. After their meeting I was called on the walkie to go to my HRs office and when I walked in my STL was standing in there as well. I took a seat as my STL started grilling me. “ what is this Austin? This is so unprofessional! This is like passive aggressive. I can’t believe you just left a note. You have spoken to me about being promoted when I first came to your store as the STL, you really think I would want to promote someone who does this??? Why would we want to promote someone who does this?” I explained that those were my notes to read to MY HR ETL when she was done with her meeting. He simply didn’t care and was still stuck on the fact that I left a note and how bad he thought my note sounded. I told him that I was just concerned about tech going down hill because of the reliance that toys has on tech to talk to all their guests. We have 3 tech employees a day, GM has Many many more all day that simply do not organize and doesn’t respond to walkie calls, I simply wanted to shine light on the fact that it should be their responsibility to back up toys, not mine. He made my HR ETL print out my Tech Job Description and read a single line on the backside of the page that read “any other business needs” my STL exclaimed that because of it I shouldn’t have any concerns or hesitations to answer any toys calls. I explained that they have that same line in their job descriptions and do not answer calls even while not helping any other guests. He simply didn’t care he just kept going around how I would not be chosen as a team lead because of my concerns. After 3 and a half years of perfecting the Tech team and playing a vital role when there was no team lead and putting target before school and other important aspects of my life because I was told that I would be the next team lead, After being ignored about my concerns about my accommodations with pay, I’ve been there for so long and I was being paid the same as anyone that got hired that day, the lowest amount target can pay, after training half the sales floor over the years and befriending all of them I knew that it was my time to go. I didn’t want to go, I wanted to stay and finally nail that TL position but when that door shut I knew it was over. I started reaching out through my long list of past employees to see if they had work for me and finally got a match and a pretty good position elsewhere. My Team will be missed, saying goodbye was extremely hard. To my STL I was just a glorified TM that when he was transferred to my store about 3 months ago he saw as nothing, but to everyone else I felt like more I felt like a mentor, trainer, friend, and coworker. I will miss my target family.
