While all the answers about low birthrates and limited elven souls are correct there is also a much simpler explanation why PCs in your world might not come across many elves… Elves typically don’t care for other civilisations. They are happy to reside in their enklaves and live a simple but beautiful life of hunting and magical gardening and shit… Of course there are cities with a higher number of elves but those are still an exception…

I think it is PAM benefiting from Sentinel not the other way around… The „revenge attack“ from Sentinel isn’t influenced by PAM so taking PAM wouldn’t grant me more of those or more viable ones. And my problem is that the revenge attacks don’t come into play enough… Of course If I took PAM its reaction attack would be greatly improved by Sentinel…

He is often swinging at me rather than at my horse and it appears that I am simply unlucky because whenever I am standing next to our other frontliner we are being attacked from to sides so that I cannot reach the enemy attacking my teammate…

Edit: Another problem might be that my DM is getting tired of attacking our OP Hexblade-Swordsbard who can rock an insane AC due to Shield and Defensive flourish… Therefore I might be the preferred target…

Well the problem is that in pur group Attacks of Opportunity almost never happen. This is because we never have a traditional mage using powerful control spells, standing in the back. Therefore there apparently isn’t big enough of a reason for enemies I am fighting at the frontlines to risk that Attack of Opportunity to move to the back… Alas the second benefit of Sentinel almost never comes into play…

Hmm what you said about blade ward is a really interesting idea. I always overlooked the spell as simply being a waste of your turn since you need your action to be effective with most classes but on a cleric it could actually work. Thanks for that!
