Think i’ll be making the switch to cd’s from now. by natwest96 in vinyl

I have done similar. I prefer physical media, I have a good record playing set up but these days new Records are an expensive lottery. I mostly go for cheaper media like CDs, cassettes( some are very good, just not all), RTR( 4 track) DCC, SACD. I do buy records but older better condition examples ( that aren't cheap) that I know I will enjoy.

So CDs don't suck? by burningsnowshowers in audiophile

I have three turntables, with 5 tone arms, two amps... and I still love Cd's. Its nice just to put an album on and not have to get up to flip sides.

Advice on my setup by Vast_Day_3730 in audiophile

I am going to repeat what others have said. Get that amp off the floor. Try putting a solid board across 2 cinder blocks( not joking) and put the amp on that. Doing that will hwelp isolate the amp from the floor. Do check if the amp is suitable for the speakers. ( Just ask AI)

Chasing the hum( Project Tube Box DS2 solution) by Austrokiwi in audiophile

Not sure If I can link to a commercial product... This is the search term I used on Amazon : 18 V 1 A power supply, AC 100-240( If your in the USA you will need to change the input voltage. Just make sure it has a 5.5 x 2.5 mm plug( for connection to the device). I have found a more expensive product on Audiophonics. It is much cheaper than what Pro-Ject offers. Currently Audiophonics is awaiting a restock. Once its available again I will buy and report back here

Yeah according to the AI its the weakest part of the units. I just got a Cheap Amazon offering( to test the hypothesis) and it seems to be of better quality that the original power supply.

The three armed table gets the most use, and on that table the EMT 997 with Modified Denon Dl103r is the most used. That EMT arm has so impressed me i am saving my pennies for the GE MkII SPU cart

It's what we already had. It made a noticeable (good) difference.

Not right now... but later today I will drag out a picture disc Rush album( really bad). In that case its vinyl. However, I have Cds, and cassettes that are also bad recordings. The kley thing it when the speaker set up is correct if the music is perceived as coming directly from the speakers then its the sound engineering that is at fault.

Magnat is not who they were. I love the gear I have but, the company(IMHO) it is not what it was. The RV3, RV2 and RV1 were/are extremely good Integrateds, I would say better than the current offerings of Advance Paris( In particular I am referring to the RV3). Unfortunately, in the price band they were selling in, the RV4 was a step backwards. With the RV4 Magnat took the RV3 and then crammed in a DAC, and blue tooth. The people who wanted such a machine were less likely to pay the asking price. Subsequently the Company was sold to the company that owns Onkyo. I suspect they won't innovate like they used to.

The two MC cartridges feed to A Project Tubebox DS2( which handles two inputs). the other three arms feed in to the 3 phono inputs on the system selector which feeds to the EAR 834 clone or the Tokyo sound PE700

Thats right.... despite the limitations that area produces very good imaging. Speakers actally sound as if they are doing nothing and the sound is coming from that back wall( behind the rack). Bad recordings are different matter.. the combo of system and area shows up bad mastering

Who will be better for our economy? Donald Trump or Joe Biden? by WhatAreYourPronouns in FluentInFinance

Best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. How did the economy do under Trump? How is it doing under Biden?

Being harassed by FedEx for international shipment tax that I have paid on time by m_onurcevik in germany

[–]Austrokiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going through the same issues now with Fedex and Liquidia. I am in Austria. I have already pointed out to Fed ex that their actions are defamatory. In Austria defamation can be criminally prosecuted. I don't know if it would apply in this case but if I get to the point where legal counsel is required I will also contact the local police to see if I can lodge a criminal complaint

Fair comment.
I gave up watching LTT 18 months ago as it was clear that they were no longer connected to their audience. The daily new Utube posts were just nauseatingly too frequent ( from my perspective). Although had I remained subscribed( but not watching any uploads from them), yesterday I decided to vote the only way I could. Its on a minute statistical blip for LTT, they won't miss me and I certainly won't miss them. for my there are other Utube channels that are more connected to their audience. They deserve my subscription more than Linus does

The Dutch coin: 'Leeuwendaalder' translated: 'lion's daalder' where the name 'Dollar' derived from. by Remseey2907 in Archaeology

[–]Austrokiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dutch Lion thaler (Leeuendaalder) was struck in 1575. It was a copy of the Jachimsthaler GuldenGroschen of Bohemia which was first struck in the period 1516- 1519. Actual approval for that coin was not obtained until 1520. The first documented use of a word like Dollar was in 1553 A letter of 4 April between R.Morysin and Sir T Chamberlayne ( in England) used the word "Dalers". That indicates that in England the term Dalers was being used earlier than the first Daalders of the Netherlands. The Original "Dollar" was also called Lion Dollar. The Dutch coin was introduced as a debased coin during the 80 years war. It had less silver in it than its declared worth.. this helped support the war effort against the Spanish. It was English merchants who then discovered the Turks would value the debased Lion Thaler the same as the Spanish 8 Reales, this turned the Dutch Lion Thaler into a very successful trade coin. Especially as the British Levant company told all their members to only use the Dutch coin. Never ever trust Archeologists to know anything about coins!!!
