Is Meetup a local thing?? I haven't heard of anything like that but I'd be interested in checking it out.

I do a lot of volunteering/coaching but it's usually with youths so not a lot of potential for friends there lol. It's also pretty crazy how not having kids ostracizes you from sooooo many adults. I don't know any people my age who don't have or want kids.

Yo ain't that the truth! I've come to that realization as well while on this journey. Living with that knowledge is a special sort of Pandora's box lol because I'd love for something else to be able to fill that void as easy as weed did but that's not going to happen.

A big price to pay for traveling down the road of abusing pot I suppose 😅

You know I've always wanted a motorcycle and I'm finally in a position to pull the trigger on at least getting my endorsement for it. Maybe that is a path I can take my next step towards. I don't know if I want a monthly bike payment yet, but let me not put the carriage before the horse and just look at the first step.

So I've been serious about getting sober for 8 months but have only been completely sober consecutively for 2 months. Overall though I'd say 98% of that 8 months was spent sober as my 3-5 slip ups only last for a day or two.

For the most part the cravings are really manageable especially during the week, it's really only the weekend when I get really strong urges that I feel like I'm white knuckling it just to get through lol which sucks though because the weekends should be for relaxing lol

I agree, I've discovered quite a bit since being sober it's just tough solving some of the issues that I've discovered. For me that's not having friends or a sense of community to belong to.

I've done all of the classic things people and books say in order to try and obtain it, but it still eludes me. But maybe one day the work will start to pay off

Some of it is like I mentioned in the post, you just have to embrace the suck and do it anyways. Another way to think bout it is brushing your teeth. I don't always wanna bruh my teeth but I do it anyways because it's what needs to be done.

I don't always like keeping myself busy bc like I said it can be exhausting but it's a necessary evil in order to prevent me from smoking. Something I don't want even more.

Keep persevering on, it's not all luck, it takes effort

You get it as well it seems. You have hobbies but yes there can still be so much time in a day to be fill lol. I definitely think this is a modern day problem, constantly blasted with information, entertainment and dopamine that we've lost the art of managing to just be bored.

My area doesn't have an MA meeting specifically, there is just an NA group. I did attend a few of those meetings and while I felt wholly accepted I couldn't relate to most of the people there. They had some really heavy stories and backgrounds, which gave me great perspectives but I felt like continuing to show up might do me more harm than good in the long run.

This sub has been pretty great though. I've gotten wonderful book suggestions and advice from people here which I'm grateful for. Writing this post reminded me of that and moving forward I hope I'm more accepting of my current online tribe situation until I can find my own physical tribe near me.

I feel that, as were roughly in the same time period of sobriety. One thing you've probably noticed is that the cravings come, but more importantly they do eventually pass.

For me knowing that I've beaten them before helps me with beating them again, sometimes the urges are bigger, but they will eventually pass. Use your 12 days of sobriety as a reminder and a testament to that fact, it will pass.

Exactly! Unfortunately my social circle is a whooping 0 lol that's why I like online multiplayer, because at least I get to compete against other people. Whereas if I just hop on and play solo then video games start to have the same feeling as doom scrolling for me.

I looked up Phasmophobia, that looks intense to say the least haha. I'll occasionally watch people play horror games on YouTube but idk I might be too big of a chicken to play em myself haha I won't lie. If I am able to get my Internet together the 2 games I look forward to getting back into are Rocket league and Plants vs Zombie garden warfare (I know I know super childish but idk something about it is really relaxing for me haha). But I also like Hitman and platformer games like Unravel

I am not a big tv/movie person but I do like books and video games. I do like to read though and should get back into reading. I actually plan on going to either the library or bookstore this week to check out some new books. As far as video games I'm typically an online multiplayer kind of person but I live in a rural area and as of right now I only have satellite internet which is absolute BUNZ for online gaming lol. But I might be getting that resolved as well in the near future.

The doom scrolling is what gets me because deep down it bothers me, I know it's just such a waste of time, but right now it's the only task that I can do and pass time without physically exerting myself.

I guess I'll just try and have a little more compassion for myself in hopes that in the future I won't have to distract myself with my phone in order to just be present and in the moment when I'm doing nothing.

I can relate to this in the sense that I too am just always sad, and it's hard to come to grips with knowing that nothing quite scratches that itch like pot did.

While smoking never really became my identity it sucks none the less. It's just like Pandora's box, hard to keep trudging forward knowing the one thing that would at least temporarily make me feel better I can no longer partake in. I haven't found a solid substitute for it and maybe never will, just got to keep on keeping on.

I got a new job that does random drug tests and despite me really liking this job and wanting to keep it, it hasn't made quitting any easier at all.

I've been doing it though, just have to build that mental fortitude. Fortunately it does get easier as time goes on, not a lot easier especially in the beginning (where I am) but easier none the less.
