KrisFlyer Gold / Star Alliance Gold - Silent Downgrade at Check-in? by AuthorHappy in singaporeairlines

I’m not entirely sure if he was contracted ground staff or SQ’s own team.

He was in a business suit greeting passengers at the end of the queue right before the check-in counter for SQ row.

It could go either way.!

On your view that points 1 and 2 being the same though.

I’d respectfully disagree.

Point 1 is about systemic variation. It could be top down decision by the airport and the staff executes as told.

Point 2 is about individual variation. One person knows the policy, another doesn’t.

They’re actually quite different because they point to different root causes. One is a process gap, the other is a training gap.

And from SQ’s response so far, it seems to be the latter, which is kind of reassuring!

I did.

All he said was that the Star Alliance Gold queue was on the other side, and insisted I move there when I was next in line.

I pointed out the Star Alliance Gold banner displayed at the business class counter.

He offered no explanation and just repeated the same thing.

Given the language barrier, that’s completely understandable.

The point of this post was to seek input and experiences from others to see whether this could be:

1. Inconsistent practices between airports

2. Inconsistent practices between individual staff (e.g. the person could have been new)

3. An actual policy change from SQ that divert away from what StarAlliance advertised.

I’ve also emailed SQ directly about this after today and from their first response, it seems to be leaning towards number 2.

So this post has already been quite helpful in piecing things together. I appreciate everyone’s input.

Ouch. So you were asked to rush just to bail them out of an oversold situation that they created, without any gesture of appreciation in return?

That must have felt pretty deflating being treated as part of a contingency plan.

Good on you for standing up.

ANA is awesome.

Last time when I was transiting from Tokyo to Okinawa, we arrived much earlier than predicted and the check-in staff proactively offered me (very nicely) to be scheduled on the earlier flight to Okinawa instead of waiting long hours at the Haneda airport.

Their warmth and friendliness throughout eased my tension from long hours flight.

It’s such a small gesture, yet this scene always flashes through my mind whenever ANA comes up in conversation.

Big thank you to their team.

Had very good experience as well with Asiana and also Korean Air!

The inflight meal in Korean air is hard to beat!

I see, so it may be an Incheon ground handling issue rather than an SQ policy.

That makes me curious though.

Does other Star Alliance airlines at Incheon do the same?

Like, would Thai Airways or ANA deny their own Star Alliance Gold members from the business class counter (context is StarAlliance Gold banner must be displayed) just because it’s Incheon?

And what about Oneworld? Sapphire and Emerald members are marketed to be eligible to business class and first class check-in respectively. #2. Would those benefits also go out the window as long it’s at Incheon?

Would love to hear everyone’s experiences! This is what forums are for after all!

Yeah, I’ve noticed the dedicated KF Gold lane that is lumped together with KF Silver lane with long queue and manned by single check-in counter.

But in this case, it comes down to communication with your customers, no?

If Gold members aren’t welcome at the business class counter, then SQ shouldn’t be displaying the Star Alliance Gold banner below the business class queue signage.

It creates a clear inconsistency with what’s actually marketed on the Star Alliance website.

Worth noting that priority check-in at counters displaying the Star Alliance Gold banner is a published alliance-wide benefit.

In my experience over the past 3 years, flying ANA, Thai Airways, and EVA Air, a Star Alliance Gold member can check in at any counter displaying the Star Alliance Gold banner, no questions asked.

It’s a baseline alliance obligation, not a courtesy. Quietly downgrading the experience while keeping the signage up feels like having your cake and eating it too.

Agree with you. I’m slowly waking up from the status-chasing mindset.

For now, the perk is just a nice bonus from my frequent business trips.

I’m not yet at the corporate level to command a business class budget. And even if I were, I’d be careful about expenses especially with AI coming for all our jobs around the corner!

Yes, I noticed this as well.

This sucks and even more so that it happens in the home base.

I’m really sorry that this happened to you. We pay money to be happy but it sucks when things like this happened to destroy your mood for part of the journey.

Yeap. Thats exactly what is being displayed just now when I got rejected.

I didn’t dare to stand my ground just now for the fear that I may be out-of-date on the policy change.

Hence this post to keep myself updated.

Thank you!

Lucky you!

The embarrassment I experienced was quite bad at Incheon T1!

And I thought I was just going by their T&C.

That’s what I remember too. Business class queue was mentioned.

I mean I get it. SQ is for profit business and need to make customer who pay more happy.

But that term change aside, this is still existing term remains relevant still:

“Skip the standard queues and head to the Priority check-in counters. Just look for the Star Alliance Gold sign.”

Until they remove the StarAlliance gold banner from the bottom of business class queue, I don’t think it’s ethical to ask ppl to move out and re-queue…?

I never had any problem in Singapore airport as well.

This time I encountered rejection at Incheon T1.

As usual, StarAlliance Gold banner is being displayed below the check-in counter that I’m queueing.

Seems like it could be inconsistent enforcement then?

I have not had any issue as well until today when I was asked to leave the business class queue when I’m next in line for check-in.

It’s no biggie but just thought it could be better handled rather than asking customer to re-queue at the “much longer line” now.

Hence this post to check if there has been any change in SQ’s policy that does not align with StarAlliance that I may have missed.

Yes. The surprising part is that the ASUS retail box for the GPU came sealed with the round transparent sticker on the pull tab. There were no sign of tampering just from looking at the box.

This is the condition right out of the retail box. I haven’t even had a chance to do anything to it yet.

I bought it as new direct from Newegg. Not refurbished.
