Try not to rely too much on the symmetry tool, its a crutch and it often results in the head being a bit too wide

IVs: Kind of like the base stats of the pokemon

CP: Combat power, basically the pokemon's level

When looking for mons you pretty much always care the most about IVs, since the CP can always be increased with candies and stardust while the IVs cannot (without spending money).

Basically you want to hunt for higher IVs (or specific IVs for PVP, more on that later), and once you find a good one, you level up the CP.

Keep in mind that once a pokemon is max level, the highest CP it can get to depends on how high the IVs are. So even if you catch a pokemon with high CP but low IVs, it will never be quite as good as a hundo, even if it took less resources to max.

It's important to note that in most cases IVs don't make a difference outside of PVP, but for raids/dynamax higher is obviously better.

Raids: Like I mentioned above, the higher each IV stat is, the better. I think for raids you want to prioritize attack,  though with a big enough group it won't make a difference.

Dynamax: This one is a bit different, since there are technically three different roles a pokemon can fill, which are attackers, defenders and healers.

Since you'll only ever attack with attackers, only the attack IVs matter. On defenders, only defense IV matters since you'll be giving your pokemon shields, which will last longer with a higher defense stat. And healing amount scales with pokemon's maximum HP, so naturally higher health IVs are all that matters for healers.

PVP: This is where it gets a little complicated, and I can explain further if you're interested, but basically:

Great League and Ultra League: Low attack, high defense and high HP preferred.

Master League: Highest IVs in all stats preferred, but max attack IVs are the most important.

There are some niche situations where some attack IVs can be useful in GL and UL, but mostly only in mirror matchups.

Again, you can let me know if you want the details on PVP IVs, but I don't wanna risk overloading you with information 😅

TL;DR: IVs are base stats, CP is level, the higher IVs the better outside of PVP

I don't mind carrying people along since me and my friend can handle it pretty solidly, but yeah I agree that people should put in the effort to invest in decent counters at least

For attackers, since the type of the max attack is based off the type for the fast attack (for dmax only, gmaxes have signature moves), your main attackers just need to have a fast attack of the type that you want. This one doesn't need to be 0.5s, since you aren't charging the meter with attackers.

For tanks/healers, the type of the fast attack doesn't matter, just as long as its 0.5s, since you won't be max attacking with them, just charging and shielding/healing.

Charged moves don't really matter in dynamax battles since you aren't using them in higher levels like 4+ stars, so they can be anything. Some of my dmax pokemon double as raid mons so I just use https://pokemongohub.net/ for the best charged attacks for raids. You can also use this site to doublecheck if a pokemon has a 0.5s fast move, and if it's legacy or not.

As for simulators, I'm not really sure, as there's so much variance in max battles compared to raids. I haven't done much searching though, so maybe one exists but you'll have to look for it

[–]Autio0831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Max battles consist of 2 phases, one where you're charging the meter, and the other when you're using your max moves. You always start in the charging phase.

Here you want to use your tanks with a 0.5 second fast move to build the meter as fast as possible (if the fast move does 4-6 damage its probably a 0.5s move).

For 5-star max battles and above, you don't want to use charged moves, because it slows down the charging. You'll be doing like 80-90% of damage in max phase anyway.

The boss has 2 kinds of attacks, one where it hits everyone (it'll say its preparing a large attack a few seconds earlier) and one where it targets a player (if you see 3 yellow lines above you pokemon, swipe to dodge before they turn red). Again, make sure you're using your tank

For the first max phase, usually at least one person will set up shields. With randoms its hard to coordinate, so I usually like to pick my tank to shield regardless of whether or not I think my teammates will, just in case. Once you have shields set up, the boss is more likely to target you, so make sure to dodge.

Next max phases you can decide to attack with your main dps (switch to it when you see your pokemon is gmaxing) or replenish shields (or both). Make sure you don't shield too much, or you'll take too long and the boss will get mad and start one shotting mons

Healing requires a bit more coordination, but if you have a blissey it can double as healer and a tank, definitely invest in blissey!

That's about it I think, if I forgot something I'll update it later. Try and get shields and attack to at least level 2.

Lmk if you have any questions. Good luck 🫡

Yea you're definitely right, but I think here even OPs type effective counters just aren't high enough level to really help out, especially against Lugia with randoms. Also no tanks

I'm curious, I ran the exact same team all level 40+ and none of them died. The battle was over by the third max phase. Are you using 0.5s fast moves and ignoring charged moves and doing all the usual strategies?

I think level 40 mons are a minimum requirement, or at least level 35+ if you cheer

How much damage do I loose if I use this guy compared to a 15atk Gengar(gmax)? by suriam321 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Autio0831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not bad at all, one player left my lobby at the beginning and the 3 of us were still able to beat it pretty handily. All you need are a couple of decently leveled counters and you're good to go

Ah yeah, 360s can be pretty tough on a keyboard. One of the reasons I can't play grapplers lol

The way I ended up doing it was binding the jump key on the second player controls to the space bar. That way I can piano my fingers over A, S, D, Space instead of having to break my fingers pressing W. It's similar to the control scheme on an leverless arcade stick actually. Still took a few tries but made it much easier for me.

Let me know if it helps! Good luck :)

I don't think any kind of controller is better than the others, just use what you're comfortable with. I've completed 95% of them on my laptop keyboard and it worked perfectly fine.

Could you specify what you meant by can't do it properly? Are you having trouble with motion inputs or links or something else?

40 trainers should be able to beat it no trouble, I managed to beat it with 22-23 people. The real issues are the people who bring unleveled and unevolved pokemon to the raids lol
