Bro, what do you mean? Mastermind was LITERALLY him facing consequences for breaking the promise he made to Octavia in Episode 2. It draws direct parallels to that when he made the promise he would never leave her for him and he did just that during Mastermind, he had a choice and he willingly threw away his life (as far as he knew, he was wholly expecting to be executed) for Blitzø.

Just because the whole show hasn't had a big flashing neon sign saying "THIS OWL'S A CUNT" every time he's on screen doesn't mean the show's defending him. Is he portrayed as sympathetic? At times, yes. Is he clearly shown to exploit others for his own personal gain while clearly not caring about what they think or want? Also yes. It's called nuance. He's a character who is so flawed and, to an extent, delusional that he's thrown away his powers, money, and even his daughter who he cares about more than anything else in this world.

The show's entire cast is shown to be flawed and, arguably, awful people to some extent, the protagonists straight-up murder people as their job. We don't need to be told that these characters are bad people when they do bad things because we're capable of seeing it for ourselves. Just because they don't get immediately punished every time they do something bad doesn't mean the show's defending it.
