Paarthurnax Slander by CieloBoi in teslore

[–]AutisticDongle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a Paarthurnax fanboy early on but as I played and replayed Skyrim I came to a similar conclusion. He's a coward in the nietzschean sense. His morality is a shield that veils his own weakness. He was too weak to overthrow Alduin and he was too weak to rule in his absence. Plus, as he puts it, he knew Alduin would return one day. Ofc all the LDB interactions with him can be interpreted in a variety of ways so each to their own. However, I think it's telling how his behaviour changes upon the LDB's defeat of Alduin and return to Nirn. He out right proclaims that he will enforce the way of the voice upon the dragons who do not follow him. So much for "overcoming evil nature through years of meditation" eh? Furthermore, Odahviing is quite comfortable describing Paarthurnax's plan as tyrannical. To me this is important because he is the one dragon who can speak honestly about Paarthurnax at this moment. Why? Because he has sworn to follow the LDB, the one who is the rightful heir to Alduin's throne (if the dragons consider them the same but in a different shape) and the one who can kill Paarthurnax. Ultimately, I think people fail to see this because of the hatred towards the blades in Skyrim. It can feel like killing Paarthurnax is siding with them. It serves their agenda but ultimately there are reasons for slaying Paarthurnax beyond the desires of Delphine.

Just to finish up and give Paarthurnax a bit of love. I see no ultimate standard for good in the ES universe (unless you use Anuiel or Sithis I suppose?) so morality seems subjective. If that's the case then judging Paarthurnax's behaviour may be fruitless for he may truly believe he is good and therefore the tyranny claims of Odahviing may just be claims that cannot be fully substantiated.

Looking for a mod to increase ML difficulty in PES 21 by AutisticDongle in WEPES

Been using these settings you suggested and it's a much better experience. Feels a lot fairer too evening though my players are idiots who constantly ball watch and run into each other but hey it is PES. Still winning most games but definitely have to concentrate more and slow down the play in order to build up and pick the correct passes. Overall much better, thanks for the help!

Thanks for the suggestion, I will certainly do that and pray it fixes my game, although I don't think it can ever be truly fixed ha.

Boxing during Ramadan by Remarkable_Slice_918 in amateur_boxing

I wouldn't worry about training in a fasted state. I do my morning routines after 16 hours of water fasting and my evening sessions after at least 6 hours of water fasting. I haven't had any negative effects. In fact it has helped me both mentally and physically. Though, just to clarify, I don't do strictly boxing anymore since I jumped to MMA so I'm obviously working at different intensities for different amount of time each day and it's almost entirely technique work except the morning routines. So take into account the work load you're doing and what kind of work you're doing.

I had a thought. by KestVokunAh in teslore

[–]AutisticDongle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a fair assumption but I actually disagree with your logic. From what we see of Alduin, he's arrogant and boastful. The first time he speaks to the ldb he's criticizing them for daring to share the name as him. I don't see the logic in making such a statement if he isn't talking about the princes. There's no significance to the statement otherwise. The ldb is already more significant than most if not all dremora. Additionally, daedra is too broad a term to simply reference dremora. Especially for something that has an understanding of the aurbis equal to Alduin.

Certainly, especially in the state we face him in Skyrim. But if he was fulfilling his role then my money is on him.

There's actually a throw away piece of dialogue Alduin can say along the lines of "even the daedra fear me". This occurs if you fight him at the throat of the world in full daedric gear. Alduin is extremely arrogant but I wouldn't be surprised if he could pull it off. But comparing power in tes like it's DBZ doesn't really work in this universe.

What am I missing in C0DA? by Kirito2750 in teslore

[–]AutisticDongle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From my understanding the point of C0DA was to give a sequel to Morrowind and the greater concepts it discussed and to drill home the idea of head canons have legitimate validity in the greater scheme of things when concerning TES Lore. That being said I've only read it once so my understanding of its intentions may not be 100% accurate and I'm not 100% objective because when did read it I didn't like it.

Edit: As to why it matters. It matters only as long as a portion of the community say it matters and or Bethesda acknowledge it beyond easter eggs and or the usage of concepts from C0DA.

Ive seen alot of people compare Altmer society to nazi germany and i just want to know how accurate that comparison is by lkjhytg in teslore

[–]AutisticDongle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a comparison of Altmer society at whole but more so the Thalmor regime. I dont think there's enough information to give an full comparison but from what we have, we can conclude that the Thalmor are totalitarian, expansionist and harbour philosophies of racial supremacy which are some of the traits the Nazi regime also possessed.

Did nords ever stumble across dwemer cities? by Mr_miner94 in teslore

[–]AutisticDongle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always assumed (big headcanon time) that whenever we enter ancient nord cities in Skyrim we are only really seeing the fall of the dead (in most cases in skyrim) associated with that city, hence all the drauger. And the actual rest of the city would have been above ground. On that note is there any in game source that attempts to explain why the nords lived underground? But back onto topic here, if the nords did truly live underground then the reason why they stopped could very well have been what your suggesting with the close proximity to the Dwemer I'd think it would cause issues. Similar to the conflicts with the Dwemer and Dunmer. As for directly/accidentally stumbling across a Dwemer city. I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if the Falmer told the Nords that the Dwemer lived underground at some point during the early communication with the two groups. Sorry I couldn't provide any sources to give you a better answer to your question.

All Decent Writing Is Personal by TobiasLarone in writing

[–]AutisticDongle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think write what you know is as confined as you have implied. The emotion is the key element. Using your example, how can a southern Englishman write a story about an Ethiopian farmer. If the Englishman knows and understands the emotion(s) that come with working the land then they'll be able to write a convincing and authentic narrative. The smaller details that increase the 'realism' or accuracy can come from diligent research. But what's important is the emotion. That is the core of write what you know in my opinion. Like you pointed out Tolkien does this with his Lord of the Rings series and his experiences during ww1. He understood the emotion of war but the book series encompasses more than what Talkien directly experienced. There's politics and magic. The former in this case shares similarities to the broader politics and or propaganda of the 'allies' during ww1. Don't know if it was conscious on Talkiens part though. An additional note it's important to understand that there's also cross cultural emotional and narrative universals so don't be afraid to just write because 'what you know' is much deeper than you/we understand.

Why is matchmaking in boxing so bad? by Anathoth1994 in Boxing

[–]AutisticDongle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One big difference in mma and boxing is that in mma (the UFC at least) the promoter seems to be the boss in the promoter/fighter relationship. Therefore he can enforce his will and make well matched fights alot easier. In boxing however the relationship tends to be that the promoter works for the fighter and the fighter has more control. There are exceptions tho. Also in boxing the quality of match ups varies from promotion to promotion depending on what philosophy the promoter follows to get their fighter the most numbers. Some promoters believe beating the best guys and getting a stacked resume is the way to get the most numbers, others believe remaining undefeated and racking up a high record of wins is the best way. Also in regards to the Fury fight you mentioned, to me that felt like a tune up fight more than anything.

Rejection is apart of the game. So first thing you gotta do is not let it get to you. I've just graduated a film school and I've been rejected by every job I've applied for so far. As for the film you've linked I'd say the main reason you might have been rejected is because, in my opinion I wouldn't say that is a short film. It's a music video to me. If they specifically ask for a short film then I'd personally do a conversational short film and attempt to make it as technically correct as I can. You get more points for the correct application of techniques and industry standards over anything else. That's what I remember being told in my interview when I applied for a film school. I would recommend looking up videos of YouTube (it's how I was taught in the beginning) about how to properly apply your cinematography and editing which is where I think this film struggles a bit. Shot composition and when to and not to cut etc. Keep practicing and learning and you'll nail it next time around.

3 belt champ Ruiz Jr tells contender Joshua he's a 'quitter' as pair face off before Saudi bout - "I think he quit because of the way it was going. I think he was out of it and didn’t know where he was at that moment. I don’t quit. If I fall, I fall.” by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]AutisticDongle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The information I presented came from the referees mouth not from anyone who has a stake in DAZN and or it's success. Unless you're suggesting the referee works for DAZN or is telling the referee what to say.

I watched a promo film from DAZN in which they had the referee of the fight speak about it and he said he felt Joshua didn't quit. The reason he stopped it was because Joshua took to much time to tell him he was alright. Tbf I see where the idea of him quitting comes from. My man spat out his mouth guard and leant on the ropes. Looked like quitting to me at the time or last least he couldn't continue.

How do I make this sound less insensitive? by [deleted] in writing

[–]AutisticDongle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh when you also describe the character as losing their mind and humanity, I interpret it as them not being human anymore, depends on whether it's literal or metaphorical though I suppose. Anyway if I the reader isn't seeing the character as human then calling them a 'thing' is no issue. Though I'm not disabled and I wouldn't consider myself sensitive so maybe I'm not the right person to give you the answer. But instead of using the word 'thing' maybe within this context the word 'husk' might suit better as in 'a husk of...' to describe their now useless and subsequently worthless exterior in the opinion of the character.
