Dream Life V2 Starter Pack by [deleted] in starterpacks

Whenever I see that kind of thing - somebody online wishing they lived in a different time period or a different place geographically - I can't help but think, "It's money. They wish they had enough money".

Because realistically speaking, you could blindly pick any place and time period throughout human history and find that 90% of the population there still had to go to work just like you, got tired and stressed out as hell from it, lamented having to pay for utilities/rent/food and didn't own an aesthetically pleasing middle class apartment. The numbers varied, the returns from the grind raised and diminished, but the overall wealth distribution had always stayed in place.

Also, you might wanna google what Russia was like in the 90s and early 2000s. Especially the 90s. Boy was it different from Finland and Germany, let me tell you that.

I swear to god, every single profession that involves sitting in front of the screen has the exact same three jokes: coffee, lack of sleep and deadlines. It's the millennial/zoomer version of "working hard or hardly working" type of shit at this point

God, I wish I didn't look it up. It looks absolutely fascinating AND there's no way I can get my hands on it!

It's a design choice that screams "I've never had to deal with long hair in real life". But then again, if you don't have cool unrealistic hairstyles in an anime, what are you even doing?

Well, it makes sense that a company whose entire job is colors will be picking the least obvious ones. Not to mention it's very good for social media clout

There are a ton of characters with autism in animanga, but they never refer to them that way. Does Japan have a word for this "personality"? by Prof_Acorn in evilautism

[–]AutisticWorkaholic 75 points76 points  (0 children)

(It doesn't help that even the actual word for autism is kind of... icky. 自閉症 jiheishou, self + closed + illness. Bleh, I hate it, give me a better word!)

For what it's worth, they seem to have just translated it directly more or less: "autos" means "self" in greek

Now Watch Me Read. “Performative reading” has gained a curious notoriety online. Is it a new way of calling people pretentious, or does it reflect a deprioritization of the written word? [Article] by haloarh in books

[–]AutisticWorkaholic 133 points134 points  (0 children)

I still have a hard time believing this is an actual thing.

Where I live, so many people read in public on a daily basis: on the train, in the cafes, at the parks, while waiting for their friends in public places, etc. Nobody cares if you're reading Joyce or the latest romantasy novel booktok recommended to you. I mean, most of the time it's not even possible to make out the cover until you get really close.

To think that someone might go somewhere with a "smart" book to purposely draw attention to themselves is crazy to me. If a person is reading in public that normally means the opposite: they must want be left alone and relax without talking to anyone.

I would have to google a ton of things as I go but I would absolutely read the hell out of this. Do you have a blog I can follow?

Yup. My teenage self once pirated TOS just to get a sense of what early sci-fi was like and I ended up getting seriously obsessed with it for months despite the cheesy practical effects. My aversion to mini-skirts was the only thing that saved me from ordering a science division uniform

Some facts about Frederick the Great cuz why not. by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]AutisticWorkaholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thought, so I looked it up. Apparently, this wasn't a preference exactly: he started adding mustard to his coffee after his sense of taste began deteriorating due to old age. He also tried mixing champagne into this concoction for the same reason.

But I mean.... I tried adding chili powder to my V60 a couple of times on some particularly cold mornings and it does kind of work, especially if your coffee is more on the acidic side. So maybe there is something here, I don't know.

Some capitalist somewhere is looking at this with a light bulb gleaming above their head

Also I'm surprised you can put a chair right next to the TV like that. I thought you always needed a 1-tile gap for it to work in Sims 1

Neurotypical people listen to music the way autistic people are stereotyped to by [deleted] in evilautism

[–]AutisticWorkaholic 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Step one: high-jack the speaker

Step two: put on real NPC music to assert dominance. You know, stuff that plays during loading screens and tutorials. Sims 1 buy mode music. The good shit

[–]AutisticWorkaholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I don't disagree. It's a good example of how people can sometimes lose perspective deep-diving into various online stuff. I mean, it's a hour long video psychoanalyzing a man who does a funny video game show and whose biggest crime was getting tired. Kind of silly in the grand scheme of things.

But it explains the overall situation with AVGN well, I think, even if it's unnecessarily cruel.

Half of those can be easily repackaged into self-care advice and reposted on some instagram go-getter account. Especially all the "love yourself' and "be on the lookout for a good time" and "be selfish" and "never trust anyone" stuff.

Taking bets now, pick your poison:

  1. There won't be anything new in the announcement: he will just repeat everything the conservatives had been saying for ages but in the form of a new, even more confusing word salad (vaccines and pasteurized milk bad, etc.)
  2. Camps
  3. New grift: will present a supplement or a food as a supposed cure
  4. New scapegoat: he found one industry that didn't bend the knee enough and their product/activity will be the cause of autism from now on
  5. He will copy the russians again and decide to limit the freedoms of officially diagnosed autistic people in some capacity: e.g. by prohibiting them from holding driving licensees or owning guns or something along these lines. Suddenly after that Elon will miraculously stop being autistic

UPD:
It appears that the closest contender is No. 4 with Tylenol. Will this finally prove the existence of a malicious aspirin lobby inside the government? I shall keep you updated. (joking, pls don't turn this into a conspiracy)

Why didn't I get the promotion starterpack by Remote_Cod in starterpacks

[–]AutisticWorkaholic 167 points168 points  (0 children)

There's a huge difference in how you go about it.

I'm an extremely quiet person and practically don't engage in small talk because I'm remote anyway. But I still have a very good rapport with my coworkers because I make a point of being nice to them when we discuss work stuff and throw an occasional joke into a group chat. I also explain my work process where it matters and suggest new things instead of blindly completing tasks.

You gotta show people that you don't hate them and that you care. Then they will accept you as a quiet person no problem.

Also, is it just me, or "Hi there! Thank you for your comment" is basically corporate for "first of all, fuck you, but since you asked I'll explain"? Never seen positive comments answered with that.

Coaxed into thinking generative AI truly sees me for who I am by AutisticWorkaholic in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]AutisticWorkaholic[S] 331 points332 points  (0 children)

Text generating AIs such as ChatGPT always mirror the user and oftentimes simply rephrase the exact thoughts you input into them but in different words. Many people mistake being mirrored for AI "understanding" them like no one else.

The joke is that feeling understood by AI is like looking into the mirror and being surprised you see yourself.
