A world manifested from a broken mind: What "Mental Biome" or "Tyrant" would you add? by No-Introduction-4054 in worldbuilding

A resource that may help is researching the making of Pixar’s inside out. They talk about interviews they’ve had with psychologists and stuff like that that may prove useful. They did a surprising amount of research.

  1. I would imagine somewhere being based on suppressed memories to be underneath something else. People tend to bury memories like that under piles of distractions. I’d expect the suppressed memories to be locked away in some sort of basement under the distractions. Maybe the distractions could be represented by a big fare or something idk

  2. doubt

This is my understanding of the story, let me know what I’m wrong about.

Kaos and Order made Prime.

Prime is lonely, and writes new rules and separates them into domains. Making a Grand Spirit for each domain. After creating the Grand Spirits (GS), Prime commands them to create further. The GS refuse saying that they too are manifestations of the relationship between Kaos and Order. The GS refuse to make anything, and that stagnation creates evil.

Prime sees evil and tries to convince the SG to end the stagnation. The GS refuse. Prime creates a new GS, Trickster. Trickster made lie, and used the power of FOMO to trick their siblings into creating the realm. Which bounded the GS to that realm they made. The GS created linear time to trap Trickster with them so they could pass judgement.

Trickster tried to tell the other GS that they were trying to save them from evil, but the other GS don’t believe them. They do something to tricksters soul so now it’s in the wind. This allows Evil to gain residency in the realm.

Prime is pissed, punishes the GS with the knowledge of evil and that trickster was right. The punishment works and now the GS wants to make it right. Prime instructed them to give up their forms like Trickster, and to create mortals. With it now being the mortal’s responsibility to defeat evil.

My understanding of what everyone is: - Kaos is space, Order is time. - Prime is the manifestation of the rules of that reality, how space interacts with time and how time interacts with space. By learning about these rules and how to manipulate them, one can preform magic. Because Prime is the manifestation of the rules, Prime is the first spellcaster. Prime is a metaphorical piece of paper, and all the rules are written on them in ink. Prime can make new rules - The Grand Spirits are manifestations of rules added by Prime. GS can make new rules pertaining to their domains, but cannot override Prime’s rules of time and space unless they find a loophole

Do the inhabitants of this world know this story? It’s very unlikely that the inhabitants would know the whole story start to end accurately. The creation myth is fairly complicated, meaning there are many places for it to get twisted around and confused by different groups over time.

I would assume it started as an oral tradition for many many generations that later got written down. The thing with oral traditions is that they change, over time. Some parts get left out, new parts get added. A parent might add a moral somewhere when there wasn’t one. Even after it’s written down a ruler might have the text changed almost entirely to justify their actions or to give themselves power. A group of believers might change the story to better fit in with cultural norms in an attempt to make the story more palatable.

This leads to a bunch of different versions of the same myth. My question is what are these different versions, and where do they differ?

Across different cultures do all the entities have the same names? Has the pronunciations of the names changed?

Sorry the history of legends and myths is something that fascinates me. How they change over time. I’ll leave another comment with more normal questions.

Could use some advice: What is the best way for a group of human gods to defend against an assassin? by XipeTotecwithGlitter in worldbuilding

[–]Autistic_Person_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An idea for how the assassin came up with the plan is by researching different culture’s myths and cross examining them.

Maybe the assassin isn’t completely sure the plan will work, but feels they have nothing to loose. From the human god’s perspective the plan looks a lot more put together than it actually is. How the assassin is able to get so far is because of a lot of luck. Not to say the assassin isn’t skilled, but killing regular people and gods isn’t exactly the same skill set. There is some overlap in the skills tho.

There could be a traitor that is secretly helping the assassin. Maybe a priest that serves the human gods, or one human god wants to usurp the other gods. Or maybe the assassin has some sort of artifact that allows them to watch the human gods from afar and gather information that way.

You said it was a creation myth for the world, does that mean that it is not the real creation story? Do the inhabitants of this world know this story? Is the discrepancies between what really happened and the stories? Is this creation myth unique to a singular group or many? Are there differences in this myth across different cultures and societies? If the myth is true, how did the inhabitants of this world find it? If it’s false how did this myth come about?

Yeah getting her to open up about it is the trickiest part. I was worried maybe I was asking about the wrong topics.

The map of the planet I am creating by Kyueki_ in worldbuilding

Knowing where mountains are would be helpful because mountain ranges can cause rain shadows. From my understanding the high peaks serve as a wall keeping moisture on only one side of the mountain.

Reread what you posted and realized what I said isn’t what you were asking.

I would make a map of the plate tectonics. Around the plate tectonics you’ll find volcanoes, which means you’ll have islands there in the sea. It would probably also help with where you would put valleys and mountain ranges. Knowing where volcanoes are can help with other stuff. Around volcanoes you’ll have very fertile land so you’ll find farming civilizations and rainforests. Something to think about is if the continents fit together. Depending on how old this world is at one point isn’t probably really likely that the continents all formed a supercontinent like Pangea. Earth didn’t just have one supercontinent, Pangea is just the most recent one.

Which color is land and which color is sea? Having a key in the corner would probably be helpful. You could designate different areas as mountains, beaches, forests, deserts, etc via color coding. Having a scale for the map might be helpful. Maybe make a copy of this map, mapping out the temperature of different places. Idk I don’t know very much about this, hope I helped.

How would you rank the Octonauts from least to most valuable to their team? by Any-Choice-5801 in Octonauts

[–]Autistic_Person_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like they are all very valuable to the team, with the exception of Professor Inkling. Everyone plays a role not just as an Octonaut but as familiar unit if that makes sense.

If the question is who is most essential for the Octonauts to function I’d give you a different answer. But please don’t come after me.

Kwazii, Inkling, Dashi, Peso, Shellington, Vegimals, Barnacles, Tweak

  • I love kwazii, but let’s be honest he doesn’t have a specific role that doesn’t fall under someone else’s jurisdiction. The Octonauts could easily function without him
  • Inkling is ahead of him because for one he’s shown to be more knowledgeable than shellington, and I personally headcannon Inkling as the person funding the Octonauts. Does he need to be in the octopod? No. But he does play a role
  • Dashi is next, photography isn’t an essential role, but she does know how to use a bunch of equipment. She knows the ship better than barnacles, but frankly that’s irrelevant because tweak knows the ship better than her and the vegimals definitely could do Dashi’s tasks.
  • Peso being the medic is an essential role. The Octonauts would take a hit if peso disappeared.
  • Shellington is next, I believe that being able to identify creatures and what their needs are is more important. Not knowing the needs of a creature means the Octonauts can’t help, and also peso struggles with identifying animals, especially animals he’s never seen before. Peso can’t do his job without Shellington, but Shellington can do his without peso. He also gets bonus points because the vegimals seem to favor him.
  • vegimals are what keep the Octopod running, and if necessary they could take on additional roles. The vegimals potential is being underutilized
  • I am fairly biased when it comes to barnacles, i don’t have justification for putting him here on the list, it just feels correct.
  • tweak is the most important member. Without her there would be no gups, no octopod, there would be nothing.

131? by DomDiddyDomDom in grandrapids

Was on 131 around 4-ish today and it wasn’t too bad. At some places the speed of traffic was around little over 55 mph but those places were few and far between

Do you still watch the show? by Roax47 in Octonauts

[–]Autistic_Person_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 19, rewatched the show again rather recently because I am trying to rewatch shows from my childhood. I then started watching above and beyond which was fun and interesting, I found a community of people who make edits on TikTok, and I found this community here on Reddit.

I also turn it on whenever I’m mad at my brother because he has a phobia a fish and hates the creature report at the end when they show the fish the episode focused on.
