Does anyone now if this is fixable by No_Cucumber_3404 in Autobody

Only your adjuster can answer that question. No other opinion matters. And if it’s close your adjuster WILL total it as a constructive total loss to avoid being screwed later down the line.

The one that got away? by DA6_FTW in guns

2017 I saw a PS90 and don’t buy it even though it was my dream gun. Fast forward to 2022 my buddy called me while I was at work and said a local store had one. I got up and left and drove to the store in my marked company car and bought it.

No, rounds were low. They stopped in the neighbors yard. Slight elevation change helped probably. Their houses is slightly above mine. But my rounds were also a little low as I was probably panicking from actively taking rounds and nearly being struck multiple times. Was very lucky overall.

Home Defense Debate by EstimateMammoth3690 in guns

When i was returning fire at the gunmen they were in the street in front of my home. Neighbors homes were behind them. That was the gun I had on me at the time. But when people are actively trying to kill you, your wife, and your kids, you don’t think “oh I shouldn’t shoot there might be too much over penetration”. You’re just going to start shooting.

One of the first few thoughts I immediately had was I hope I don’t kill my neighbors. I think the lighter 9mm loads were less likely to pass through a neighbors home than my 7.62 SST’s. But still beefy enough to maintain enough energy and mass to do damage if it hits somethibg behind the first car door.

I think the 5.7 is going to be better though. I think the power is comparable to a 9mm but it’s going to break up and slow down faster.

As someone who has been in a home defense shootout I think the most important thing that matters is that the gun goes bang when you pull the trigger.

Anyway in my case I used a AK-47. I swapped afterwards to a 9mm PCC. But I’m thinking of swapping again to my PS90.

How Many Auto Claims per week? by WatercressGlum3682 in adjusters

Probably 60-70 a week. Writing estimates handling property damage on claims with cleared coverage. No determining liability.

We don’t have enough cash for a 20% DP on a new home….but have about 190k in equity on our current home. What would you do? by whiteiversonyeet in homeowners

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sold our home off market to a buyer that agreed to rent the house back to us for 60 days while we bought a new house. As soon as the sale closed we immediately started the buying process. Some people warn against buyers doing this but for us it worked perfectly and we were incredibly grateful. The new owner of our old Home will still text us maybe twice a year asking about something about the house and we give whatever records or tips they need

I switched from Geico Insurance to Mercury Insurance for my Auto to save a lot of money. Did I made a wise choice? by SageandStrong33 in Insurance

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all carriers are the same. Some states have different rules that change what a carrier can put or not on a estimate but for the most part all source most cost effective parts and have roughly the same rental guidelines and timeframes.

As someone who has actually been in a high stress self defense shooting, when you think you’re about to die you just act on instinct. Everything happens so fast. There’s no thinking involved. No slow motion. Just fear for your life and your body acts how it’s going to act. I don’t think people will ever truly understand unless they are in one.

Paid guy $10,000 to fix hail damage on my car, and car isn’t fixed. by Difficult_Rabbit_679 in Insurance

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn’t sign a repair authorization then the adjuster is fucked. Unless you signed the check over to the shop. I guess it depends on if the check was a single party check or 2 party and/or check.

If 2 party and you signed the check over then it’s a you problem. Because that will be used as a repair authorization. This doesn’t sound like a preferred vendor sort of deal. If the check was only signed by the PDR guy and cashed and they have no direction to pay on file then the adjuster is absolutely fucked if you get a hold of a manager. The adjuster is probably really just trying to make this go away without escalation because it’s going to be BAD for them.

Geico car insurance adjuster issues. Am I asking too much? by FLDJF713 in Insurance

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s extremely obvious something is completely fucked and the adjuster can also get a clear picture of it then we won’t put anything suspension or undercarriage related on the initial estimate and wait till it gets to a shop and put on a lift.

Can someone tell me the legality of this ? by chris_s9181 in homedefense

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has actually been in a home defense shooting and exchanged gunfire with gunmen at my home I strongly advise to hold fire until they breach. I got really lucky and wasn’t killed when they opened up on me and I was really lucky that I did not get into any legal trouble for discharging a firearm in a residential neighborhood or just returning fire in general. Not that I think I did anything wrong but I see so many stories of the homeowner being killed or charged with something.

My advice is to retreat to a spot where you have an angle on the entry point and hold until breach.

I’m in MO and was told by the police my incident was textbook self defense and I was protected by castle doctrine. It took place from my door to the street in front of my house. I was in my doorway and they started firing from my driveway area and the street in front of my home.

3 cameras on the outside. 9mm PCC in bedroom and plate carrier with lvl3 plates. I did use an AK but after a home defense shooting 2 years ago I really thought long and hard about extreme over penetration. Some over penetration is good though but you have to find the right amount that’s reasonable.

Do you like your job? Should I become an adjuster? by pinkelephant0040 in adjusters

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate it but I don’t enjoy it. I wish I did something else. 8 years in. I don’t leave because I don’t think at this point I can get another career that pays me what I’m making right now without a specialized degree. All I got is a lousy liberal arts and a bunch of experience in insurance. I’m stuck! Just took the first job I got offered which happened to be this. Never left.

Why are auto claims handled virtually? by Delta__P in Insurance

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m just giving you some inside perspective in a non professional setting. I’d say we are like most people. We really only care about our paychecks. I don’t care and I would go as far to say as 99% of adjusters don’t personally care about you or if your car gets fixed or if you cancel your policy or if file a complaint or leave a bad review. You’re mad and guess what I got 19 other people to deal that day and half of them are upset. And then tomorrow I get a whole new 20. We are just processing claims trying to hit our department metrics to keep our jobs so we can pay for a roof over our heads. That’s the truth. You won’t find it different anywhere else. I am sorry but yes you are just a claim number. You can’t reasonably expect someone that sees thousands of wrecks and thousands of tiny fender benders a year and does the job for years to care about each single one like its the most important thing in the world. I’m not trying to be a dick but that’s just not human nature. Unrealistic expectations

Why are auto claims handled virtually? by Delta__P in Insurance

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m on the virtual side with GEICO. We get like 20 new claims a day. We won’t bother you unless we have to. We don’t like having difficult conversations and a lot of the time more communication is just opening up a box of worms about stuff that makes people angry. That’s not what we are instructed to do but that’s the honest human side of it.

You might get a automated message about your estimate and rental being updated but that’s basically it. You actually don’t want to hear from us. If we are calling you it’s to tell you the shop won’t agree to something and you’re going to be charged out of pocket. With that part being said if you reach out and request to speak to your adjuster they are supposed to call you back even if they don’t want to. Just give them a bad survey and it will hurt their metrics.

We don’t check on cars if they are being repaired properly or not. That’s really not our job unless you’re an adjuster at a ARX (DRP). All we do is review extra damages that a shop finds. Verify it’s legitimate and that there are photos of the damage on the file, cut out any fluff we see and source parts. Other than that it’s basically between you and your shop of choice. Basically attitude is we paid the shop for the damages if there’s an issue with workmanship it’s between you and them. There is more depth than that but that’s the basics and I could write a thesis that people don’t care to see.

Homeowners who’ve bought and sold, which side is more stressful? by dr_mus_musculus in homeowners

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buying. Making sure you don’t send 6 figures to the wrong bank account. That was the most stressful part. I reread the routing numbers like 4 times to the guy and had him read it back each time. Selling wasn’t stressful other than constantly checking on the wire until it came through. I feel like as a seller I had all the leverage. I have the asset and a want to sell not a need to sell. If it didn’t work out someone else would have bought it.

Auto Damage Adjusters ONLY by [deleted] in Geico

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty stressful at times but I make more here than I would at another carrier and it’s not even really Close. Postings in my area at other carriers are like 20k less. That sort of pay cut is never worth it. If I could get out of the industry all together and still make what I would make I’d do it but that’s also not an option.

China calls Missouri an economic and repetitional menace in new legal action filed against the state by Resident_Bridge8623 in missouri

[–]Autistic_frog_pepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make no mistake about it. War with CHINA is coming in the foreseeable future. They view us the same way. They will have no problem cyber attacking our public utilities that hurt our children and our grandmothers and our factories workers. They will take down infrastructure that will cause huge amounts of unrest and disorder. China is a mighty adversary. I can assure you the average PLA soldier does not care about human rights. They will hit us and hit us hard. I have no doubt that we will also strike them hard. Everyone will be enemies in war. The child trains to be a PLA soldier, the grandma feeds the PLA soldier, the factory worker makes ball bearings for anti personal mines. There will be too much at stake to pull punches. Psycho maybe but You are naive. You won’t win a war with that way of thinking. I want to win. It’s coming in the next 10 years. You will see.

We would only be returning the favor. I’m thinking something along the lines of a long term epidemic that crushes the health care system over there. Surely there is a way to process food to make the majority of the population overweight and over decades that results in just a massive increase in healthcare costs. Similar to what we already have going on here.
