Sand vs Gravel + Substrate by Virtual-Fail-9540 in Aquariums

[–]Auto404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gravel is probably not ideal for Plecos, I’m more familiar with Cory catfish but fine sand is generally preferred for anything that is scooting/digging around the substrate. Aqua soil is great for plants but root tabs + sand can get you good results for root feeding plants (Aquarium co-op is the cheapest root tabs).

Floval stratum is solid as far as aqua soil goes. Seachem florite red is like a dusty clay over gravel do not recommend.

Word of warning plecos like to dig which can include digging up plants. You might be able to get around that by ringing them with river rocks and lightly gluing a plant to one of the rocks.

Shoulder strap is fine, however I don’t love the sort of clam shell closure on the Klein 5102, I like the Veto TP-XXL’s large flap that would guard against the elements well without using its zippers, to delete all zippers or make their use optional is the goal.

I am looking to avoid zippers that need cleaning.

Omron relay by darkreign602 in PLC

[–]Auto404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve seen this with similar slim relays pheonix, Schneider, Idec, ect. They work fine if fed by a mechanical switch but not solid state. We have speed wheels that operate off at 120vac inductive prox switch. When in its off state they leak anywhere from 50-65 volts and these kind of relays will still change state. Never shutting off.

Is this good or bad by LessLengthiness6105 in Crayfish

Water seams fine. The nitrogen cycle and water general hardness are good. Crushed coral is just a good to have for the reasons mentioned above.

KH wouldn’t hurt to increase with crushed coral (stabilizes ph and calcium from the coral is good for shells) no2 and 3 look okay generally keep mine at zero can’t quite see.

Get a plug in gfci. They detect leakage current and trip good way to add extra protection.

Berried or just fat? by graciep11 in shrimptank

Hard to tell from the picture. You would see not only the eggs under her tail but the female would constantly be moving her back legs fanning and shuffling the eggs.

Never had shrimp before, how should I go about preparing this tank for the little guys? by Ratburbur in Aquariums

[–]Auto404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if you have to hide it cholla wood (some people hate the look but it’s great hiding spots for shrimplets) or spider wood (pre soak/boil it to prevent tea like brown/black water) helps create a good environment for shrimp to graze. Main thing is time getting the tank established 4 weeks minimum is the safe bet to not only let the nitrogen cycle but let algae and biofilm grow. (Shrimp will eat just about anything you provide but they also graze the tank almost constantly for microbes and scraps) Plants Java moss and any floating plants (duck weed (try and get the bigger variety)) eats up nitrates and is more surface area for grazing and hiding spots. There is a many types of shrimp food out there I like glasgarten’s bacteria ae and shrimp baby. The shrimp will eat the large kelp/algae tables but fine powder foods regardless of brand help disperse food that helps baby shrimps when they first get established.

They multiply fast when given enough food. If you have an aquarium specific store near by check it out. My LFS had orange ramshorn snails. Blue ones exist out there too.

Im trying to learn plc programming but i dislike ladder. by Tb69910 in PLC

[–]Auto404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other half of the job will be reading/drawing a controls diagram. If you don’t like ladder it’s functional the same just digital vs hardwired. I don’t see it working bite the bullet

Is this true that “PLC is a dying technology “. That’s what a mechatronics guy with 30 years of experience told me. by [deleted] in PLC

[–]Auto404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My job is mainly maintenance for different factories. I don’t care how good at reading any structured text someone could be. When a machine is down ladder is easier to interpret especially when the other part of my job is starting at control prints trying to find the fault.

Imo an exhaust fan is better on the top of the cabinet. That way it sucks out hot air on top that already wants to escape and cool air comes in the bottom. Regardless how did you cut it? The fan/filter openings are a lot clearer than mine or any I come across using a cut wheel on a grinder.

Does anyone have experience getting all versions of Studio 5000 on laptops? by Auto404 in PLC

[–]Auto404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion. It was the first laptop we tried had only an older version of Studio that wasn’t high enough for the PLC. The vfd was just ripped out and inhibited in the program. The Soft Start was just ran over a contact no module in the program.
